Book OECD Development Pathways A Multi dimensional Approach to the Post COVID 19 World for Paraguay

Download or read book OECD Development Pathways A Multi dimensional Approach to the Post COVID 19 World for Paraguay written by OECD and published by OECD Publishing. This book was released on 2024-07-24 with total page 153 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Paraguay has faced multiple shocks in the past five years as the COVID-19 pandemic was bookended by severe droughts that affected two key sectors, electricity production and agricultural production. The economy has demonstrated remarkable resilience during this period, supported by policy measures commensurate with the magnitude of the challenge, like the USD 2 billion fiscal response to the pandemic. These shocks have also exposed key underlying vulnerabilities in the country’s economy and development model, including reliance on agricultural exports, informality, limited revenue-raising capacity, and exposure to the consequences of climate change. The response and stimulus recognised these issues and found new ways to address or circumvent them, albeit in many cases not efficiently or permanently. This report draws lessons from policy measures implemented during the pandemic and recovery phase and applies them to current strategic challenges. In doing so, it highlights policy priorities to make Paraguay’s development path more inclusive, stronger and more resilient.

Book Community Economy and COVID 19

Download or read book Community Economy and COVID 19 written by Clifford J. Shultz, II and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-08-23 with total page 667 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume explores the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the health, safety, and socioeconomic well-being of community residents of selected countries around the world. It is built on an overarching framework of studying community well-being, applied here to the analyses of one of the most significant crises of our time. Most important are the lessons learned from the experiences in these countries – including insights and recommendations on how to mitigate future pandemics. Building on years of research, each chapter is written by an accomplished scholar with interests and expertise on various assessments of community well-being development in the country of study. The authors share cases and analyses, and highlight failures and successes; they offer sound policy recommendations on how to restore the health, safety, and multidimensional wellness of community residents, and how to decrease the likelihood and impact of future crises. Some of the policy recommendations in this multi-country compendium can be used to assist crisis prevention and recovery, beyond pandemics. The volume shows how the lessons learned and shared from community responses to the pandemic can provide critical and useful policy insights to shape best practices in mitigating other disasters like hurricanes, floods, earthquakes, tornadoes, wars, riots, acts of domestic and international terrorism, weapons of mass destruction and industrial accidents. This is a must-read for researchers across the social sciences, health sciences, and management studies, and for government and non-government professionals involved in community health and well-being.

Book Alternative Im Mobilities

Download or read book Alternative Im Mobilities written by Maria Alice Nogueira and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2022-07-27 with total page 169 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: By introducing the new concept of alternative (im)mobilities, this collection draws attention to a different approach to mobility practices. In doing so, this ground-breaking volume explores a range of issues related related to (im)mobilities and the Covid-19 pandemic, transport and social practices, and media and urban tourism. Designed and organized in a legally or illegally way, alternative (im)mobilities are examples of those daily practices of displacement of people, objects, and information, which mobilize a multidisciplinary framework of urbanization, shedding light on important and long-standing issues of inequality and the lack of recognition of diversity in economics, social and culture urban life. This volume opens up a new set of research questions related to the complex ways in which informal actors cope with their everyday life experience, regarding dwelling, commuting, working, caring of vulnerable people, health issues, access to information, among other mobility practices, besides the lack of essential – and infrastructural - public services. This volume will be of great interest to researchers and scholars in geography and the social sciences interested in mobilities, transport, communication, tourism, mobility justice and inequality, public decision making and health studies.
