Book Compendium of Navigational Techniques

Download or read book Compendium of Navigational Techniques written by Bob Wilhelm and published by Quarterdeck Entertainment LLC. This book was released on 2011-08-01 with total page 118 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Calling All Mariners, Seafarers, & Boaters: Navigation Need Not Be Intimidating Ever Again!!! And Now You Can Do It The Old-Fashioned Way - And Mesmerize Your Friends!!! Bob Wilhelm, Master Ocean, has over fifty years at sea. Beginning as a submariner in the U.S. Navy, he has gone on to commercial fishing, running charters, and sailing all as Master of his own vessel. He breaks down the method behind ocean navigation; it is the scientific process of directing the movement of a vessel from one point on the earth's surface to another as described by latitude and longitude. Modern scientific navigators need the tools required to lay a course and compute distance, a compass to steer by, and a means of determining vessel's position during passage. This compendium of technical knowledge has been constructed and presented in order that a navigator process the tools to develop a voyage plan using dead reckoning, piloting techniques for position fixes, celestial equations for ocean passage, and tidal formula for a safe uneventful voyage. The primary result produced by this compendium is providing up-to-date, scientific navigation procedures applicable for small vessels. Some of these mathematical equations may seem complicated to the casual observer, however be assured that they are very convenient, and much quicker than graphic solutions and with more accuracy.

Book Fundamentals of the Radiolocation and Radionavigation

Download or read book Fundamentals of the Radiolocation and Radionavigation written by Stanisław Rosłoniec and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-01-04 with total page 473 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book presents principles of operation of radar and radionavigation systems. The group of radar systems includes: primary and secondary radiolocations, bistatic and multistatic systems. They are illustrated with relevant examples of calculation and applications. The issues of increasing the range of the radar systems are presented together with the matched filtering of the used signals. Other discussed issues are methods for eliminating interfering signals and researching methods of 3D space. Various methods of the monopulse radiolocation are presented in Chapter 12. In Chapters 13–18 terrestrial and satellite radionavigation systems are under discussion. The terrestrial systems are: Loran C, Decca Navigator and Omega. The TRANSIT is an example of a hyperbolic satellite system. The stadiometric systems GPS, GLONASS, GALILEO, BeiDou, IRNSS and QZSS are discussed together with differential systems augmentating of them. The ILS, MLS and TLS supporting the landing of aircrafts are discussed in Chapter 17. The prospects for replacing of them with satellite systems augmentated by appropriate reference ground-based stations (GBAS) are also analyzed. Various beacons and ranging devices used in aviation are described in the Chapter 18. This book is intended primarily for students and engineers interested in radar, radionavigation and aerospace engineering.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This two-volume set highlights the importance of Iberian shipbuilding in the centuries of the so-called first globalization (15th to 18th), in confluence with an unprecedented extension of ocean navigation and seafaring and a greater demand for natural resources (especially timber), mostly oak (Quercus spp.) and Pine (Pinus spp.). The chapters are framed in a multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary line of research that integrates history, Geographic Information Sciences, underwater archaeology, dendrochronology and wood provenance techniques. This line of research was developed during the ForSEAdiscovery project, which had a great impact in the academic and scientific world and brought together experts from Europe and America. The volumes deliver a state-of-the-art review of the latest lines of research related to Iberian maritime history and archaeology and their developing interdisciplinary interaction with dendroarchaeology. This synthesis combines an analysis of historical sources, the systematic study of wreck-remains and material culture related to Iberian seafaring from the 15th to the 18th centuries, and the application of earth sciences, including dendrochronology. The set can be used as a manual or work guide for experts and students, and will also be an interesting read for non-experts interested in the subject. Volume 2 focuses on approaches to the study of shipwrecks including a synthesis of dendro-archaeological results, current interdisciplinary case studies and the specialist study of artillery and anchors.
