Book excerpt: "... describes and analyzes three types of agreements: premarital agreements, postmarital agreements, and domestic partnership agreements. A premarital agreement is a contract between prospective spouses, including same-sex couples, made in contemplation of marriage. A postmarital agreement is a contract executed by parties to an ongoing marriage and not incident to a divorce or marital separation. A domestic partnership agreement, sometimes known as a cohabitation agreement, is a contract executed by a couple whose domestic arrangements may not be state-sanctioned. However, the term also includes such an agreement executed incident to a civil union or registered domestic partnership. Generally, all of these agreements are used to define the property and support rights of the parties upon termination of the marriage or other relationship by death or dissolution. Some parties also opt to include financial obligations during the marriage or other relationship. This Portfolio does not cover separation agreements that settle property rights, spousal and child support obligations, and child custody matters incident to a separation or divorce"--Portfolio description.

Download or read book 10 Keys written by Meredith K. Bromfield and published by . This book was released on 2010-10-05 with total page 68 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Divorce is never an easy event. That being said, I have put together a guide that is easy to read and lays out 10 fundamental keys and 10 emotional keys that will help women as they go through this very challenging time. Through this book, I hope to help women rebuild their lives and eliminate some of the pitfalls that many have faced when going through their divorce. I have many years of experience in financial services and have worked with women who were facing tough times. With my background having been that of a counselor, the relationships I developed with my clients were more than business. I was the person whom they would cry to when their marriage was on the brink of divorce. During these very tough times, I learned many lessons about the divorce process. I have had women in tears in my office because they were struggling financially, and I realized that they could have been better protected if they had received more information prior to and during their divorce. My theory is that if you don't know the right questions, you won't get the right answers. Even working with an attorney, one will not get all the answers if the right questions are not asked. Attorneys have many other clients and their time with any one client is limited. The more prepared a client is, the more likely their individual needs will be better served, and important details will not be left out. My goal and intent with this book is that you, the person going through the divorce, be the most educated and advised client your attorney could possibly have. The decision to divorce will impact your life for a very long time. The more you know and take responsibility for, the more you will have no regrets in the end. You will know in your heart that you did everything possible to make sure your divorce was fair for all parties. My only desire for you is that nothing is overlooked that could have improved your position financially. Divorce is tough enough without regrets.

Book excerpt: THE "ANTI-DIVORCE" BOOK FOR COUPLES WHO ARE COMMITTED TO MAKING "I DO" LAST FOR A LIFETIME Robert Stephan Cohen believes that no marriage is half as complicated as a divorce -- and with three decades of experience as a high-profile divorce lawyer, he should know! In Reconcilable Differences, he gives couples the keys to navigating conflicts before they become roadblocks to marital harmony. Cohen begins by identifying the seven "Universal Differences" that often lead to conflict but don't necessarily signal the end of the union: Parallel Lives * Communication * Sex * Money * Infidelity * Transitions * In-laws/Family With the cool, compassionate voice of a trusted adviser, he then explains that there are three phases of conflict: Warning signs -- the early tip-offs that trouble is brewing; Crimes and misdemeanors -- actions guaranteed to raise tempers; and Reconciliation -- the process of getting back on track. Drawing on countless case histories, Cohen reveals how to put these differences behind you and move forward -- together.
