Book Operations in an Omnichannel World

Download or read book Operations in an Omnichannel World written by Santiago Gallino and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2019-10-15 with total page 353 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The world of retailing has changed dramatically in the past decade. Sales originating at online channels have been steadily increasing, and even for sales transacted at brick-and-mortar channels, a much larger fraction of sales is affected by online channels in different touch points during the customer journey. Shopper behavior and expectations have been evolving along with the growth of digital channels, challenging retailers to redesign their fulfillment and execution processes, to better serve their customers. This edited book examines the challenges and opportunities arising from the shift towards omni- channel retail. We examine these issues through the lenses of operations management, emphasizing the supply chain transformations associated with fulfilling an omni-channel demand. The book is divided into three parts. In the first part, “Omni-channel business models”, we present four studies that explore how retailers are adjusting their fundamental business models to the new omni-channel landscape. The second part, “Data-driven decisions in an omni-channel world”, includes five chapters that study the evolving data opportunities enabled by omni-channel retail and present specific examples of data-driven analyses. Finally, in the third part, “Case studies in Omni-channel retailing”, we include four studies that provide a deep dive into how specific industries, companies and markets are navigating the omni-channel world. Ultimately, this book introduces the reader to the fundamentals of operations in an omni-channel context and highlights the different innovative research ideas on the topic using a variety of methodologies.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Domain Name System (DNS) enables user-friendly alphanumeric namesâ€"domain namesâ€"to be assigned to Internet sites. Many of these names have gained economic, social, and political value, leading to conflicts over their ownership, especially names containing trademarked terms. Congress, in P.L. 105-305, directed the Department of Commerce to request the NRC to perform a study of these issues. When the study was initiated, steps were already underway to address the resolution of domain name conflicts, but the continued rapid expansion of the use of the Internet had raised a number of additional policy and technical issues. Furthermore, it became clear that the introduction of search engines and other tools for Internet navigation was affecting the DNS. Consequently, the study was expanded to include policy and technical issues related to the DNS in the context of Internet navigation. This report presents the NRC's assessment of the current state and future prospects of the DNS and Internet navigation, and its conclusions and recommendations concerning key technical and policy issues.

Book Why Customers Would Rather Have a Smartphone than a Car

Download or read book Why Customers Would Rather Have a Smartphone than a Car written by Cor Molenaar and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-03-03 with total page 206 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Why Customers Would Rather Have a Smartphone than a Car explores some of the fundamental changes in consumer behaviour: Why do we buy less in shops and more on the internet? Why do we spend more on gadgets, smartphones and apps and not more on food, holidays or clothing? Why do most business people only look at symptoms and not the causes of changing customer behaviour? The new generation buys differently from the baby boomers; they have different priorities and preferences. The internet has changed us in the way we think, act and communicate. Whilst many retailers now understand the need for change, few of them have established convincing or sustainable models for the future. Cor Molenaar argues that by understanding the drivers behind these new consumer behaviours, retailers can identify the opportunities this represents and adapt their offering accordingly. The kind of relationship retailing he advocates involves the way the retailer interacts with their customer; the new environment that they need to sustain along with their ability to relate customer data, technology and new services. The author interweaves examples from traditional and virtual retailing with his research on consumer psychology and buying behaviour to offer a sophisticated and at times challenging guide for all those involved in retailing, as well as those responsible for planning and designing social and retail space.

Book Description and comparison of offline and online retail environments for cars

Download or read book Description and comparison of offline and online retail environments for cars written by Irene Anne McLaughlin and published by GRIN Verlag. This book was released on 2016-09-26 with total page 33 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Essay from the year 2015 in the subject Business economics - Trade and Distribution, grade: 64%, University of Ulster, course: BSc Business Studies, language: English, abstract: Car retailing is an increasing challenge with the steady decline in the size of dealer networks. Those that continue to operate are looking at ways of improving profitability. The internet has suffered from difficulties in this sector, as evidenced by the departure of companies such as Autoquake and Tesco Cars. To compare the offline and online sales of Cars consideration of the potential reach of consumers is required, looking at the growth of the internet and potential customer base. Internet usage has grown from 16 million users in 1995 to 3,035 million users in 2014. The use of Smart Phones for web search is growing at an immense rate. In countries such as Africa where Internet coverage is sparse, data usage is being pushed by organisations such as Huawei and their $25 mobile phone campaign. This shift will mean that smartphone technology will be the platform of the future in testing, purchasing, and servicing cars.
