Book The Robin Makes a Laughing Sound

Download or read book The Robin Makes a Laughing Sound written by Sallie Wolf and published by Charlesbridge Publishing. This book was released on 2010-02-01 with total page 48 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Experienced birder Sallie Wolfe provides a peek into her creative process, sharing notes, verses, sketches, and paintings from her own notebooks. A beautiful blend of factual information and creative inspiration offers birders and artists alike a giftable collection of poetry, a compact guide, and an invitation to journal. At first glance, The Robin Makes a Laughing Sound centers on bird identification and behavior. But look more carefully: journaling helps us observe, think evaluate record, and create. Sallie's words capture the light of early spring when robins return to newly budding trees, list the species that come and go, note how West Nile virus affects her backyard population, and even find a rhyme for suet—there's nothing to it.

Book Drawing Design and Craft Work

Download or read book Drawing Design and Craft Work written by Frederick J. Glass and published by Colchis Books. This book was released on with total page 360 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is hardly necessary to-day to advance a plea for the teaching of drawing, design, and craft-work. Their importance is, or should be, recognised by all authorities on education. It is well, however, that the teacher should have a clear comprehension of the part played by these subjects in the development of the intellect and character of the scholar. This is essential, firstly, that he may have confidence in his teaching, with a corresponding strength of purpose and enthusiasm; and, secondly, that he may be in a position to defend effectively his belief in the work he is doing. Despite the fact that the majority of educational authorities recognise its value, critics still abound who would have us believe that such work merely panders to effeminate tastes and a love of luxury, whilst denying its practical utility. Such critics need to be confuted, and this can only be done by formulating definite reasons for the serious study of the subjects in hand. At the outset we must recognise that man is complex and many-sided, hence his needs are complex and multifarious. An unfortunate tendency exists in some quarters to regard human beings merely as productive machines with a capacity for executing so much work upon which the profit (usually accruing to those holding this view) will be so much, and that education should, therefore, be designed on this basis. Such an opinion is unworthy of consideration, and may be dismissed at once. It must be granted that, as far as possible, all human capacities are worth developing, otherwise the curriculum will have a bias, tending to develop certain faculties, leaving others to become atrophied. It is in some such comprehensive scheme that art work, as here dealt with, plays its part. It develops certain powers for which no scope is permitted in other subjects. The faculty of observation is quickened by training the vision, whilst the memory is cultivated to retain the images thus correctly seen. Drawing is a method of expression older by far, and more natural than writing, for the alphabet in use to-day is a development of early picture writing. Again, the child as soon as he can walk endeavours to express graphically the beings and objects amongst which he lives, making no attempt to write.

Book The Book of Genesis Yesterday s Classics

Download or read book The Book of Genesis Yesterday s Classics written by J. Paterson Smyth and published by Bible for School and Home. This book was released on 2017-01-28 with total page 242 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The first volume in The Bible for School and Home series, covering the Creation, the Fall, the Flood, the call of Abraham, and the story of Joseph, with Smyth showing at every turn how the individual stories fit into God's overall plan. All eight volumes in The Bible for School and Home series, used in Charlotte Mason's schools, are intended for parents and teachers to use in preparing Bible lessons for the children in their charge. Each of the volumes contains two dozen or more lessons, preceded by the same lengthy introduction to sound teaching practices, a section which is well worth reading. For each lesson, Smyth specifies the Biblical passages to cover, then provides background information you can incorporate in your telling of the story to gain the interest of your children, carefully framed questions you can use to draw their attention to the main points, and ways you might direct the conversation to stir their affections and their actions.

Book Paper Modelling Yesterday s Classics

Download or read book Paper Modelling Yesterday s Classics written by Mildred Swannell and published by . This book was released on 2021-09-28 with total page 74 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An introduction to a handicraft for young children that strengthens skills of paper folding, paper cutting and pasting, and ruler drawing while constructing models from paper. Plans for 44 models are included in the book, some simpler and others more complex. The first ten models start with a square piece of paper to form simple objects such as a box and a basket, or more complex ones such as a cart or a barn. Next come 23 models that begin as oblongs, and a final 11 from various irregular shapes. Detailed instructions accompany the plans. Rather than a series of projects to be worked through from beginning to end, consider starting with projects with a few simple pieces and few instructions, and then, as skills increase, choosing projects that match your skill level and catch your fancy. This edition differs from the original in having each model on its own page or pagespread, with instructions for each component placed as closely as possible to its graphic representation. The dimensions on the plans match the dimensions in the instructions and are sized to be easily readable. The components in each plan are represented as large as possible on the page, while still in proportion to each other, so the dimensions on the plans will seldom match the measurements on your ruler.
