Download or read book The Mechanical Behavior of Salt X written by J.H.P. de Bresser and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2022-07-05 with total page 690 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Rock salt formations have long been recognized as a valuable resource - not only for salt mining but for construction of oil and gas storage caverns and for isolation of radioactive and other hazardous wastes. Current interest is fast expanding towards construction and re-use of solution-mined caverns for storage of renewable energy in the form of hydrogen, compressed air and other gases. Evaluating the long term performance and safety of such systems demands an understanding of the coupled mechanical behavior and transport properties of salt. This volume presents a collection of 60 research papers defining the state-of-the-art in the field. Topics range from fundamental work on deformation mechanisms and damage of rock salt to compaction of engineered salt backfill. The latest constitutive models are applied in computational studies addressing the evolution and integrity of storage caverns, repositories, salt mines and entire salt formations, while field studies document ground truth at multiple scales. The volume is structured into seven themes: Microphysical processes and creep models Laboratory testing Geological isolation systems and geotechnical barriers Analytical and numerical modelling Monitoring and site-specific studies Cavern and borehole abandonment and integrity Energy storage in salt caverns The Mechanical Behavior of Salt X will appeal to graduate students, academics, engineers and professionals working in the fields of salt mechanics, salt mining and geological storage of energy and wastes, but also to researchers in rock physics in general.

Download or read book The Role of Salt in the Structural Development of Central Utah written by Irving Jerome Witkind and published by . This book was released on 1994 with total page 164 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Multiple episodes of diapirism, probably salt-generated, have determined the structural pattern of central Utah. The causative salt and other evaporites are integral components of the Arapien Shale of Middle Jurassic age, one of the most unusual stratigraphic units in central Utah.
Download or read book Evaporites Petroleum and Mineral Resources written by J.L. Melvin and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 1991-04-05 with total page 571 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume illustrates the expanding knowledge of evaporites as important reservoir seals, fluid aquitards, ore-hosting sediments, and economically viable sediments in their own right. Researchers, oil and gas professionals, minerals resource professionals, environmental specialists and others within geology and the other earth sciences shall utilize the information within this book in their understanding of the many recent discoveries and concepts involved in the field of evaporite sedimentology.
Download or read book Fault related Rocks written by Arthur W. Snoke and published by Princeton University Press. This book was released on 1998 with total page 664 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a richly illustrated reference book that provides a unique, comprehensive, and up-to-date survey of the rocks and structures of fault and shear zones. These zones are fundamental geologic structures in the Earth's crust. Their rigorous analysis is crucial to understanding the kinematics and dynamics of the continental and oceanic crust, the nature of earthquakes, and the formation of gold and hydrocarbon deposits. To document the variety of fault-related rocks, the book presents more than six hundred photographs of structures ranging in scale from outcrop to submicroscopic. These are accompanied by detailed explanations, often including geologic maps and cross sections, contributed by over 125 geoscientists from around the world. The book opens with an extensive introduction by Arthur W. Snoke and Jan Tullis that is itself a major contribution to the field. Fault-related rocks and their origins have long been controversial and subject to inconsistent terminology. Snoke and Tullis address these problems by presenting the currently accepted ideas in the field, focusing on deformation mechanisms and conceptual models for fault and shear zones. They define common terminology and classifications and present a list of important questions for future research. In the main, photographic part of the book, the editors divide the contributions into three broad categories, covering brittle behavior, semi-brittle behavior, and ductile behavior. Under these headings, there are contributions on dozens of subtopics with photographs from localities around the world, including several "type" areas. The book is an unrivaled source of information about fault-related rocks and will be important reading for a broad range of earth scientists, including structural geologists, petrologists, geophysicists, and environmental specialists. Originally published in 1998. The Princeton Legacy Library uses the latest print-on-demand technology to again make available previously out-of-print books from the distinguished backlist of Princeton University Press. These editions preserve the original texts of these important books while presenting them in durable paperback and hardcover editions. The goal of the Princeton Legacy Library is to vastly increase access to the rich scholarly heritage found in the thousands of books published by Princeton University Press since its founding in 1905.

Schweizerbart'sche : Nägele u. Obermiller. This book was released on 1984 with total page 436 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: On the evening of 11th June 1979, the 35 ton motor cutter "K. J. V. Steenstrup", belonging to the Geological Survey of Greenland, anchored in a small bay at Tovqussap nuna, West Greenland. On board were nine members of the JUGS Commission on Tectonics and Subcommission on Precambrian Structural Type Regions. For the next 24 hours a strong gale and snow forced the members to stay below deck, and while being rocked by the swell reflected from the nearby cliffs of two-pyroxene diorite at Verdens Begyndelse ("Beginning of the World" - see Medd. am Gr0nland 123, plate 1), this small group of tectonic "officials" decided to initiate the production of a book to be entitled "Precambrian Tectonics Illustrated". Needless to say, a copy of the magnificent book " Geology of Greenland", published three years earlier by the Geological Survey of Greenland, was lying in front of us on the oak table in the small crowded cabin. H. H. Read once said: "Map it my boy and it will all come out". But don't forget what James Gilluly added: "Most exposures provide answers only to questions that are put to them". With this in mind - "bon appetit".
