Download or read book I the Board of Natural Resources and Conservation of the Department of Registration and Education And II the Illinois State Geological Survey in War Mineral Research Classic Reprint written by Morris Morgan Morris and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-11-04 with total page 34 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from I. The Board of Natural Resources and Conservation of the Department of Registration and Education, And, II. The Illinois State Geological Survey in War Mineral Research By July, 1940, the first unit of the Natural Resources Building was nearing completion, and members of the Geological and Natural History Survey staffs were moving into their new offices and laboratories. The Natural Resources Building in its present form comprises this first unit, which was so planned that new units might be added conveniently and economically as expand ing programs and staffs made necessary an increase of floor space. Although the exterior of the building conforms to the stately Georgian design of other campus building, utility rather than beauty was the guiding principle in designing, constructing, and equipping the interior. However, the foyer illustrates the decora tive possibilities of certain Illinois building materials, and many of the laboratories exemplify the functional beauty concept of modern design. Efficient use of floor space is evident throughout the building. Not only is full use made of the three main floors for offices and laboratories; ingenious planning made possible the natural light ing of the basement, permitting laboratories and offices on this floor, as well as storage rooms, and a well-insulated roof allowed utilization of the fourth floor for offices, drafting rooms, libraries, and laboratories. Book Geological Series Classic Reprint

Download or read book Geological Series Classic Reprint written by Montana State University and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-11-27 with total page 34 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Geological Series The natural resources of the State, aside from gold, silver and copper, are not being developed very rapidly. In mineralogy, lithology, palaeontology and physiography, the United States Geological Survey has done most of the work of this kind in the state. Some work of minor importance has been done by individuals, and the University of Montana, in the summer of 1900 and 1902, made some good col lections of fossils and rocks; but the vast portion of the state is yet untouched along these lines. It is the writer's purpose in this paper to study, not in detail, but quite carefully, the volcanic ash beds or deposits of various counties in the state, giving his theory of their probable forma tion, their extent. Their position in the geological time scale andsome of the uses to which they are now put and their future economic value. These few pages are to serve but as a nucleus around which years of future investigation will build a structure of Montana's geology. Book Report of the Geological Survey

Download or read book Report of the Geological Survey written by E. J. Babcock and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2016-08-01 with total page 130 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Report of the Geological Survey: Of North Dakota, First Biennial Report Recognizing the vast importance of the mining industry, in some form or other, most of the states of the union have established geo logical surveys. The geological and natural history survey of North Dakota was established at the University in connection with the School of Mines, and by that act the professor of geology was made state geologist, an arrangement generally adopted by various states. However, no appropriation to begin the work was made until two years ago. Prior to that time the writer of this report had devoted most of his summer vacations for eight years to geological investigations of the state and in efforts to encourage the develop ment of the mineral resources. Two short bulletins were issued, embodying a preliminary report of some of these investigations. During six years of this time the state paid nothing for the work, the expenses were borne by the writer, and his time during these vacations was cheerfully contributed for the good of the cause. Thus a large amount of materials and data was collected absolutely without expense to the state. Had it not been for this fact it would have been impossible. With the allowance of only $300 per year for expenses, to have done the field work and carried on the investiga tions shown in this report.
