Book The Natural Gas Industry in Appalachia

Download or read book The Natural Gas Industry in Appalachia written by David A. Waples and published by McFarland. This book was released on 2014-01-10 with total page 379 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The large scale, practical uses of natural gas were initially introduced by innovators Joseph Pew and George Westinghouse for the steel and glass industries in Pittsburgh, and local gas companies evolved from individual wells to an interstate supply network acquired by Rockefeller's Standard Oil interests. Natural gas is now a prevalent part of American markets and with the production from the Marcellus shale is filling the critical void left by a lack of new coal, oil, and nuclear power facilities. This vital American enterprise began in the Appalachian states as an accidental and underestimated byproduct of the oil rush of 1859. This book explores the evolution and significance of the natural gas industry to the present day.

Download or read book Natural Gas written by United States. Interagency Task Force on Natural Gas and published by . This book was released on 1974 with total page 258 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report contains the final technical analysis of the Project Independence Interagency Natural Gas Task Force chaired by the Federal Power Commission. The task force was formed in April 1974 to provide estimates for the Project Independence Blueprint of the potential production capabilities of the natural gas industry and the resources necessary to achieve these levels of production. The task force evaluated two alternative strategies. The first was "business-as-usual," which assumed the continuation of all current policies that could affect levels of natural gas production. The second strategy, "accelerated demand," assumed selected changes in policies or practices that would permit a greater expansion of potential production. The data support from the Natural Gas Task Force, together with estimates of resource availability, conservation and demand forecasts served as input into the Project Independence Blueprint analysis. This report is not a production or price forecast and does not represent policy or program recommendations of the Federal Energy Administration or of the other participating agencies

Book Lake Erie and Lake St Clair Handbook

Download or read book Lake Erie and Lake St Clair Handbook written by S. J. Bolsenga and published by Wayne State University Press. This book was released on 1993 with total page 500 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Learn about the wonders of Lake Erie and Lake St. Clair in this fascinating and readable book. The most comprehensive reference source available about the lakes, Lake Erie and Lake St. Clair Handbook is an ideal guide for anglers, boaters, swimmers, beach walkers—anyone who uses and enjoys the lakes. The handbook explains, in simple terms, the reasons for the scenic beauty and the natural events that occur in the coastal and offshore waters of Lake Erie and Lake St. Clair, including the St. Clair, Detroit, and Niagara rivers extending from Sarnia, Ontario, to Niagara-on-the-Lake, New York. Individual chapters focus on the land, air, water, and life forms that comprise the natural history and environment of the region—the shoreline topography, wind and weather patterns, water temperature cycles and water level changes, the ecology, and indigenous animal life. Lake Erie and Lake St. Clair Handbook enhances our understanding and appreciation of the lakes and their surroundings by addressing fundamental questions about the Lake Erie region: • how Lake Erie was formed through glacial processes • why daily and seasonal weather patterns occur • causes of the water currents and waves • causes of temperature patterns in the lakes • the location of productive reef features • the species of fish and birds found in the area • the importance of the wetlands • the effect of current and past pollution on the aquatic life in the lakes
