Book Natural Chance Artificial Chance

Download or read book Natural Chance Artificial Chance written by Massimo Negrotti and published by Peter Lang. This book was released on 2008 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Not only scientific research, but also modern-day social life, is demonstrating a strongly renewed interest in 'chance' - a theme that has accompanied the whole history of human thought. This volume brings together many of the topics in which chance, or randomness, plays a significant role. The interest in randomness has been accentuated by the emergence of theories and concrete phenomena, which appear to be homing in upon the complex, many-sided, multidimensional and uncertain aspects of reality, such as the dynamics of living or economic systems, or of technological and political trends. Furthermore, in scientific and technological fields, there is a growing need for 'good' random sequences of numbers or symbols for use in simulation or testing activities, cryptographic methods, and so on.

Book Adaptation in Natural and Artificial Systems

Download or read book Adaptation in Natural and Artificial Systems written by John H. Holland and published by MIT Press. This book was released on 1992-04-29 with total page 236 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Genetic algorithms are playing an increasingly important role in studies of complex adaptive systems, ranging from adaptive agents in economic theory to the use of machine learning techniques in the design of complex devices such as aircraft turbines and integrated circuits. Adaptation in Natural and Artificial Systems is the book that initiated this field of study, presenting the theoretical foundations and exploring applications. In its most familiar form, adaptation is a biological process, whereby organisms evolve by rearranging genetic material to survive in environments confronting them. In this now classic work, Holland presents a mathematical model that allows for the nonlinearity of such complex interactions. He demonstrates the model's universality by applying it to economics, physiological psychology, game theory, and artificial intelligence and then outlines the way in which this approach modifies the traditional views of mathematical genetics. Initially applying his concepts to simply defined artificial systems with limited numbers of parameters, Holland goes on to explore their use in the study of a wide range of complex, naturally occuring processes, concentrating on systems having multiple factors that interact in nonlinear ways. Along the way he accounts for major effects of coadaptation and coevolution: the emergence of building blocks, or schemata, that are recombined and passed on to succeeding generations to provide, innovations and improvements.

Book The Artificial and the Natural

Download or read book The Artificial and the Natural written by Bernadette Bensaude-Vincent and published by MIT Press. This book was released on 2007 with total page 341 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: These essays - written by specialists of different periods and various disciplines - reveal that the division between nature and art has been continually challenged and reassesed in Western thought. Nature and art, the essays suggest, are mutually constructed, defining and redifining themselves.

Book New Frontiers in Artificial Intelligence

Download or read book New Frontiers in Artificial Intelligence written by Takao Terano and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2001-12-14 with total page 559 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book constitutes the thoroughly refereed joint post-proceedings of five international workshops organized by the Japanese Society of Artificial Intelligence, JSAI in 2001. The 75 revised papers presented were carefully reviewed and selected for inclusion in the volume. Book Nature inspired Methods in Chemometrics Genetic Algorithms and Artificial Neural Networks

Download or read book Nature inspired Methods in Chemometrics Genetic Algorithms and Artificial Neural Networks written by Riccardo Leardi and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2003-12-03 with total page 402 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In recent years Genetic Algorithms (GA) and Artificial Neural Networks (ANN) have progressively increased in importance amongst the techniques routinely used in chemometrics. This book contains contributions from experts in the field is divided in two sections (GA and ANN). In each part, tutorial chapters are included in which the theoretical bases of each technique are expertly (but simply) described. These are followed by application chapters in which special emphasis will be given to the advantages of the application of GA or ANN to that specific problem, compared to classical techniques, and to the risks connected with its misuse. This book is of use to all those who are using or are interested in GA and ANN. Beginners can focus their attentions on the tutorials, whilst the most advanced readers will be more interested in looking at the applications of the techniques. It is also suitable as a reference book for students. Subject matter is steadily increasing in importance Comparison of Genetic Algorithms (GA) and Artificial Neural Networks (ANN) with the classical techniques Suitable for both beginners and advanced researchers

Book The Principles of Economics with Applications to Practical Problems

Download or read book The Principles of Economics with Applications to Practical Problems written by Frank A. Fetter and published by Good Press. This book was released on 2019-11-22 with total page 600 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Frank Fetter's 1904 treatise, 'Principles of Economics', pioneered a general theory of economics in the Austrian tradition. By tracing economic laws to individual human action, Fetter demonstrated that the price of each consumer good is determined solely by subjective value and the rate of interest solely by time preference. His work on capital and interest, rudimentary theory of the trade cycle, and refutation of productivity theories of interest went unsurpassed for decades. 'Principles of Economics' is a seminal work that laid the foundation for modern Austrian economics and remains a must-read for any student of economics today.
