Book The National Lottery and Its Regulation

Download or read book The National Lottery and Its Regulation written by Andrew Douglas and published by A&C Black. This book was released on 2001-12-01 with total page 254 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The introduction of a National Lottery into the United Kingdom created a unique regulatory challenge. The response to this challenge is embodied in arrangements informed not by international precedent but by privatisation policies pursued by successive Conservative governments between 1979 and 1994 when the Lottery was launched. Dr Douglas assesses the success of the Lottery's regulation against the objectives set out in the enabling legislation: the upholding of the Lottery's propriety, the protection of the players, and the maximising of the funds to be applied to the Good Causes. Lessons learned during the initial Licence period will inform the new seven year Licence from October 2001, the operator chosen for the new term, and in particular the role of the profit motive within the new arrangements.

Download or read book London 2012 Games written by Great Britain. Parliament. House of Commons. Culture, Media, and Sport Committee and published by The Stationery Office. This book was released on 2008 with total page 88 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the Committee's second report on the preparations for the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, following its first report which focused on the funding (HC 69-I, session 2006-07, ISBN 9780215032140). The report reviews the funding, the venues and their legacy, the legacy for community sport (increasing participation in sport), and elite sporting performance (medal targets, sponsorship etc). The Committee welcomes many of the achievements to date. The timetable is realistic. The land assembly process is complete, within budget and without significant delay. Major sponsorships have already been negotiated. The budget, though much inflated from the original, is now soundly based. But there is a bewildering array of commitments, promises and plans for using the potential of the Games to increase participation in sport: a comprehensive nationwide strategy is still needed. The ambitious aims from UK Sport for performance in the Games will be good for British elite sport.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. It was not the first time CIRCLE addressed this issue. In 1988 CIRCLE'S Bureau was invited to participate in a seminar in Budapest on The State, the Market and Culture. I will never forget the emotional impact of Sacha Rubinstein's demonization of state sup port and his apotheosis of the role of the market in the cultural field in Russia. So, in ad vance of actual events, we suddenly had a premonition of what was going to happen, ofthe turmoil which was about to radically change the socio-political scene of Central and East ern Europe. Six years later, in 1994, we met again in Budapest for a Conference on The Distribu tion of Roles between Government and Arts Councils, Associations and Foundations.

Book Cultural Diversity and International Economic Integration

Download or read book Cultural Diversity and International Economic Integration written by Paolo Guerrieri and published by Edward Elgar Publishing. This book was released on 2005-01-01 with total page 312 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explores the relationship between cultural diversity and international economic integration and its implications for global governance of the audio-visual sector. The national audio-visual policies of a number of countries - including Canada, Egypt, France, Germany, Italy, India and the UK - are compared in order to assess their potential impacts and restrictive effects on international trade and investment. The variety of approaches used by the contributors reflects the wide differences among national audio-visual systems and offers a rich perspective on how they can be analyzed. The lessons drawn from these national case studies are placed in context by up-to-date original analysis of the constraints arising from the WTO system. Scholars and professionals in the audio-visual sector and in international trade negotiations would be interested in the issues discussed in the book, given their importance in shaping the institutional environment of cultural and economic activities in the audio-visual sector.

This report looks at how the money has been spent, what has been achieved, and the effectiveness of the grant-making process. It is based on a detailed review of 30 projects, a survey of applicants and interviews with staff. The conclusion is that the Fund has been successful in supporting projects that are helping to preserve the heritage of the UK. Although its robust processes have led to better and more sustainable projects, more should be done to reduce the burden on applicants, speed the delivery of projects, and provide more support for those who need it.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sport: Law and Practice, Fourth Edition is the leading legal title covering sports law and practice in the UK, and at the Court of Arbitration for Sport. It serves both as a comprehensive statement of applicable law and precedent, and as a very practical guide to circumnavigating a complex sector. The new edition retains and updates all of the key chapters from previous editions, including the extended sections on challenges to the actions of sports governing bodies, and on anti-doping regulation and enforcement (with an introduction to the new 2021 World Anti-Doping Code). There are important updates to the chapters on Regulating Financial Fair Play, Misconduct, Safeguarding in Sport, the Court of Arbitration for Sport, and Media Rights and Sport. The Fourth Edition also adds brand new chapters dealing with: -Effective sports regulation (including the first ever comprehensive discussions of the 'general principles of law' applied by CAS panels in determining challenges to sports regulations, as well as of the principles of interpretation of sports regulations). -Best practice in sports governance (describing developments such as the strengthening of the competence and independence of boards and the emergence of independent integrity units). -Data protection law and sport (including discussion of the provisions of the Data Protection Act 2018 that facilitate the sharing of personal data by sports bodies for integrity-related purposes). -Exploiting commercially valuable sports data (explaining how sports rights-holders can fashion commercial agreements to meet the demand for sports data from the betting industry and others). -ESports (the first comprehensive treatment of the legal and practical principles underlying the regulation and commercial exploitation of the increasingly important ESports sector). Readers will also benefit from practice tips, precedent clauses, detailed explanations of key practical issues, and step-by-step analysis. This is an essential title for all sports law practitioners (solicitors and barristers, common law and civil lawyers), sports governing bodies, event organisers, clubs, participants, sports agencies and commercial partners, arbitrators, universities, and students.
