Warner, U.S. Senator From The Commonwealth Of Virginia Senator Warner. Good morning, ladies and gentlemen. The subcommittee is pleased to receive testimony from a number of our colleagues. We will ask our colleagues to testify in the order of their appearance. I am pleased to welcome the distinguished new junior Senator from Maine, Ms. Snowe. I will make a few statements followed by the chairman, and perhaps by that time Senator Baucus will have arrived, and then we will proceed as quickly as possible. We are expecting Senator Nickles, Senator Campbell, Senator Simon, Senator Lautenberg, and possibly Senator D'Amato. We have two issues this morning developed during the Istea legislation, the percentage use of crumb rubber in asphalt pavement and the safety program for motorcycle helmets. I also want to at this time to indicate to our distinguished chairman and the ranking member that this subcommittee will proceed toward a markup as quickly as possible. Our last hearing is scheduled for April 6 to receive further testimony, Mr. Chairman. That will cover innovative financing options to stimulate private sector capital investment in the transportation projects. Over the April recess, I have directed the staff to assess the information presented in our hearing and to make recommendations on issues to be considered in the subcommittee markup. My expectation is that the subcommittee will be ready to markup this bill shortly after the April recess.
