Book National Development in Romania and Southeastern Europe

Download or read book National Development in Romania and Southeastern Europe written by Paul E Michelson and published by Histria Books. This book was released on 2022-07-01 with total page 158 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book honors Cornelia Bodea, academician, scholar, professor, teacher, and, above all, friend and colleague to three generations of American and British students of the Romanian past and culture. The studies in this volume, apart from two contributions dedicated to the work of Cornelia Bodea, are arranged in chronological order. They range from an effort to elucidate the image of Napoleon, as seen by Polish participants in Napoleon’s failed Russia invasion, a study on the development of the Albanian national consciousness, in which Romania also played a role, an illuminating study of the image of Romania found in the classic eleventh edition of the Encyclopaedia Britannica, World War I, British cultural policy in Romania, post-World War II Romanian-American relations, and a study of the Transnistrian dispute. The scope of these studies reflects the range of Cornelia Bodea’s own work, which has dealt with grand themes of Romanian national development, cultural history, and Romanian diplomatic history. Academician Cornelia Bodea passed away in 2010. Contributors to this volume include Dennis Deletant, Radu R. Florescu, Richard Frucht, Joseph Harrington, Ernest H. Latham, Jr., Paul E. Michelson, and Kurt W. Treptow.

Book Democratization in EU Foreign Policy

Download or read book Democratization in EU Foreign Policy written by Benedetta Berti and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2015-09-16 with total page 171 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: New democracies are uniquely positioned to promote democratic values and have a competitive advantage in the global democracy assistance industry. This book examines the attempts of one group of young democracies, from Central and Eastern Europe (CEE), to channel this pro-democracy agenda into both national and European foreign policy and development support. It looks at how CEE is ‘upstream’ changing the EU on crucial policy issues as part of the common foreign and security policy. Furthermore, it tracks the process whereby imported ideas and norms are recycled for further export ‘downstream’, and how these concepts are received in countries outside of the EU including the post-Soviet space, the Western Balkans, the Middle East and North Africa region and Central Asia. This text will be of key interest to scholars, students and practitioners of democratisation studies, European Union studies, comparative politics, international relations, international development, European politics, as well as area/regional studies.

Book Alexandru D Xenopol and the Development of Romanian Historiography

This book was released on 2016-04-14 with total page 172 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Despite the criticism of his peers and the inattention of his successors, Alexandru Xenopol provided Romanian nationalistic historiography with a greater measure of respectability, especially with the general public. By the time of WWI a strong sense of national identity had become entrenched as an intellectually respectable mentality among Romania’s literate classes. This book examines Xenopol’s participation in the creation of this mentality in Romania during decades that were crucial to the development of institutionalized intellectual life and and educted behaviour in that country.
