Book National Dam Safety Program Lower Tumbling Run Dam National I D Number PA 00688 Schuylkill River Basin Schuylkill County Pennsylvania Phase I Inspection Report

Download or read book National Dam Safety Program Lower Tumbling Run Dam National I D Number PA 00688 Schuylkill River Basin Schuylkill County Pennsylvania Phase I Inspection Report written by WOODWARD-CLYDE CONSULTANTS PLYMOUTH MEETING PA. and published by . This book was released on 1978 with total page 78 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Lower Tumbling Run Dam, owned by the Schuylkill Haven Borough, is used as a water supply structure for the town of Schuylkill Haven and surrounding areas. Limited records indicate that the dam was constructed in 1832 and completed in 1833. The dam failed in 1850 and again in 1869. The facility is judged to be in fair condition although the embankment slopes are considered to be steep. Hydrologic and hydraulic calculations indicate that overtopping of the dam will occur at approximately 30% of the probable maximum flood. Therefore, the spillway is considered to be 'Seriously Inadequate.' The dam is classified as an 'Intermediate' structure by virtue of its forty-nine foot height, and as a 'High' hazard dam consistent with a potential at failure for extensive property damage and loss of life at the water treatment plant and further downstream at Mount Carbon, Pennsylvania. There is insufficient engineering and construction data to adequately evaluate the stability of the dam and condition of the outlet works.

This book was released on 1978 with total page 86 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ashland Dam is a rolled earth embankment with a concrete core wall founded approximately 10 feet into rock. The embankment is approximately 69 feet high at its maximum section with a length of approximately 500 feet impounding a reservoir of approximately 331 acre-feet. The upstream slope is riprapped from the crest to the toe. The downstream slope contains a rock toe drain and is grass covered. The embankment was constructed over an existing 20 feet high dam which became the upstream toe of the new embankment. The principal intake system consists of two pipes located at the base of the dam which are used for water supply and for blow-off. The larger pipe, 16 inches I.D., feeds water into a treatment building at the downstream toe of the embankment. The smaller, 12 inch I.D., pipe also feeds water through the pumphouse and discharges into a blow-off pit approximately 40 feet below the structure. Excess water is discharged over the spillway located on the left abutment. The concrete ogee spillway is approximately 63 feet wide and discharges into the natural stream channel about 400 feet below the dam centerline.

Book National Dam Safety Program Penn Nursery Dam NDI I D Number PA 00470 Penn DER I D Number 14 117 Susquehanna River Basin Potter Run Centre County Pennsylvania Phase I Inspection Report

Download or read book National Dam Safety Program Penn Nursery Dam NDI I D Number PA 00470 Penn DER I D Number 14 117 Susquehanna River Basin Potter Run Centre County Pennsylvania Phase I Inspection Report written by Bernard M. Mihalcin and published by . This book was released on 1980 with total page 82 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Based on a visual inspection, operational history, and available engineering data, the dam is considered to be in good condition. The size classification of the facility is small and its hazard classification is considered to be high. In accordance with the recommended guidelines, the Spillway Design Flood (SDF) for the facility ranges between the 1/2 PMF (Probable Maximum Flood) and the PMF. Due to the high potential for damage to downstream structures and possibly loss of life, the SDF is considered to be the PMF. Results of the hydrologic and hydraulic analysis indicate the facility will pass and/or store approximately 92 percent of the PMF prior to embankment overtopping. Based on screening criteria contained in the recommended guidelines, the spillway is considered to be inadequate, but not seriously inadequate. Deficiencies noted by the inspection team included a seepage condition along a portion of the downstream embankment toe approximately 160 feet to the right of the left abutment hillside and a minor vertical crack in the concrete spillway overflow wall.

Book National Dam Safety Program Ward Run NDI Number PA 01124 PennDER Number 63 75 SCS Number PA 483 Ohio River Basin Washington County Pennsylvania Phase I Inspection Report

Dziubek and published by . This book was released on 1980 with total page 87 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: PA 483 is a 74-foot high, zoned-earthfill floodwater retarding dam designed by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Soil Conservation Service (SCS). The dam is owned and operated by the Washington County Commissioners. The dam consists of a 360 foot long embankment, a vegetated earth side channel emergency spillway, and an intake riser and outlet conduit (principal spillway). The dam and appurtenant structures were found to be in good overall condition at the time of the inspection. Hydraulic/hydrologic evaluations revealed that the spillway will pass the Probable Maximum Flood (PMF) without overtopping the dam. PA 483 is a 'High' hazard, 'Intermediate' size dam requiring evaluation for a spillway design flood (SDF) equal to the PMF. Therefore, the spillway is assessed as 'adequate.' The inspection revealed certain items of remedial work which should be performed immediately by the owner.

Book National Dam Inspection Program Lake Wynonah Dam PA00702 Schuylkill River Basin Plum Creek Schuylkill County Pennsylvania Phase 1 Inspection Report

Download or read book National Dam Inspection Program Lake Wynonah Dam PA00702 Schuylkill River Basin Plum Creek Schuylkill County Pennsylvania Phase 1 Inspection Report written by WOODWARD-CLYDE CONSULTANTS PLYMOUTH MEETING PA. and published by . This book was released on 1978 with total page 91 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Lake Wynonah Dam is a 92 foot high, zoned embankment. The dam measures 950 feet along the crest impounding a 175 acre reservoir. The dam was designed to use locally available borrow materials and contains two primary material zones. The upstream zone, consisting of approximately 2/3 of the dam cross-section, is composed of impervious materials classified as clayey sands and silty clayey sands. The downstream section, which consists of approximately 1/3 of the cross-section, is composed of a previous coarse-fill zone. There is a 2-foot thick blanket drain beneath the coarse-fill zone. The toe drain discharges into the natural stream channel. A 24-foot wide cut-off trench was excavated into sound rock along the centerline to control seepage. A double line split-spaced grout curtain was constructed below the core trench. A maximum hole spacing was 5 feet on center and holes were staggered 5 feet up- and downstream of the centerline. The upstream slope contains benches at elevations 634 and 588. The slope is riprapped from the upper bench to elevation 646 (3 feet below the crest of the dam).

Book National Dam Safety Program Parker Dam NDI Number PA 01126 PennDER Number 17 87 Susquehanna River Basin Laurel Run Clearfield County Pennsylvania Phase I Inspection Report

Download or read book National Dam Safety Program Parker Dam NDI Number PA 01126 PennDER Number 17 87 Susquehanna River Basin Laurel Run Clearfield County Pennsylvania Phase I Inspection Report written by John A. Dziubek and published by . This book was released on 1980 with total page 71 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Parker Dam is classified as a 'Significant' hazard - 'Small' size dam. The dam and reservoir, owned by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Department of Environmental Resources, are used for recreational purposes. The dam and appurtenant structures were found to be in good overall condition at the time of the inspection. A spillway design flood (SDF) in the range of the 100-year flood to the 1/2 Probable Maximum Flood (1/2 PMF) is required for Parker Dam. Since the dam is in the middle of the 'Small' size category according to storage capacity, the 1/2 PMF was selected as the SDF. Hydrologic/hydraulic evaluations, performed in accordance with procedures established by the Baltimore District of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, revealed that the available spillway capacity is much greater than the maximum flow expected during the SDF. Therefore, the dam will not be overtopped during the SDF and the spillways are considered to be 'adequate'.

Book National Dam Safety Program Upper and Lower Dams NDI Number PA 00389 PennDER Number 20 55 SCS Numbers PA 487A and B Ohio River Basin Crooked Creek Crawford County Pennsylvania Phase I Inspection Report

Download or read book National Dam Safety Program Upper and Lower Dams NDI Number PA 00389 PennDER Number 20 55 SCS Numbers PA 487A and B Ohio River Basin Crooked Creek Crawford County Pennsylvania Phase I Inspection Report written by BAKER (MICHAEL) JR INC BEAVER PA. and published by . This book was released on 1980 with total page 132 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Upper and Lower Dams consist of two dams in series designed by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Soil Conservation Service (SCS) for floodwater detention and waterfowl habitat enhancement. Lower Dam is the primary structure upon which this report focuses because the majority of Upper Dam becomes inundated by backwater from Lower Dam before the emergency spillways at Lower Dam are activated. Hydraulic/hydrologic evaluations revealed that the spillways will pass the Probable Maximum Flood (PMF) without overtopping Lower Dam. A spillway design flood (SDF) equal to the PMF is required for Lower Dam. Therefore, the spillways are considered 'adequate.' The inspection revealed only one deficiency which should be corrected immediately, namely, the repair of the chipped concrete on the impact basin of Upper Dam.
