Book National Dam Safety Program Erieville Reservoir Dam Inventory Number NY 369 Oswego River Basin Madison County New York Phase I Inspection Report

Download or read book National Dam Safety Program Erieville Reservoir Dam Inventory Number NY 369 Oswego River Basin Madison County New York Phase I Inspection Report written by George Koch and published by . This book was released on 1980 with total page 93 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report provides information and analysis on the physical condition of the dam as of the report date. Information and analysis are based on visual inspection of the dam by the performing organization. Inspection of this dam revealed that there are a number of deficiencies on this structure some of which are rather serious. Further analysis is required to evaluate and remedy these deficiencies. The most serious of these deficiencies are the two areas of seepage on the downstream slope of the northern section of the dam. The hydrologic/hydraulic analyses performed indicate that the outflows from the Probable Maximum Flood (PMF) will result in the dam being overtopped. The outflows from one-half of the PMF will not result in the dam being overtopped. Therefore, the spillway capacity is rated as inadequate. However, since the outflows from one half the PMF will result in flow around the southwestern end of the embankment, further investigation is required to determine the effects of this condition. The valves for the service spillway pipes are located at the downstream end of the two pipes. This is an undesirable situation since the pipes are constantly subjected to a pressure head. The existing valves should be removed and replaced by valves at the upstream end of the pipes.

Book National Dam Safety Program Higinbotham Brook Watershed Project Inventory Number NY 703 Oswego River Basin Madison County New York Phase I Inspection Report

Download or read book National Dam Safety Program Higinbotham Brook Watershed Project Inventory Number NY 703 Oswego River Basin Madison County New York Phase I Inspection Report written by George Koch and published by . This book was released on 1979 with total page 138 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report provides information and analysis on the physical condition of the dam as of the report date. The examination of documents and visual inspection of the Higinbotham Brook dams and appurtenant structures did not reveal conditions which constitute a hazard to human life or property. The total discharge capacity of the spillways is adequate for the Probable Maximum Flood (PMF). The following remedial actions are required during this construction season: (1) Repair the erosion areas on and in the vicinity of Dam 1. Seed and mulch all unprotected areas to establish erosion resistant vegetation; (2) Repair the eroded area in the downstream channel; (3) Periodically monitor the slopes in the reservoir area and repair as required; (4) Provide a program of seeding and mulching of all earth surfaces on the dams and in the reservoir area to establish erosion protection material. If vegetation cannot resist long term erosion action, an alternate method may be required; and (5) Provide a program of periodic inspection and maintenance of the dams and appurtenances. This program must include yearly operation and lubrication of the reservoir drain system.

Book excerpt: The definitive book on steak has never been written-until now "Of all the meats, only one merits its own structure. There is no such place as a lamb house or a pork house, but even a small town can have a steak house." So begins Mark Schatzker's ultimate carnivorous quest. Fed up with one too many mediocre steaks, the intrepid journalist set out to track down, define, and eat the perfect specimen. His journey takes him to all the legendary sites of steak excellence-Texas, France, Scotland, Italy, Japan, Argentina, and Idaho's Pahsimeroi Valley-where he discovers the lunatic lengths steak lovers will go to consume the perfect cut. After contemplating the merits of Black Angus, Kobe, Chianina, and the prehistoric aurochs-a breed revived by the Nazis after four hundred years of extinction-Schatzker adopts his own heifer, fattens her on fruit, acorns, and Persian walnuts, and then grapples with ambivalence when this near-pet appears on his plate. Reminiscent of both Bill Bryson's and Bill Buford's writing, Steak is a warm, humorous, and wide-ranging read that introduces a wonderful new travel and food writer to the common table.

Book National Dam Safety Program Clayton s Dam Inventory Number NY 1460 Susquehanna River Basin Madison County New York Phase I Inspection Report

Download or read book National Dam Safety Program Clayton s Dam Inventory Number NY 1460 Susquehanna River Basin Madison County New York Phase I Inspection Report written by Hugh C. Flaherty and published by . This book was released on 1981 with total page 225 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Examination of available documents and visual inspections of the dam did not reveal conditions which constitute an immediate hazard to human life or property. However, the dam has some deficiencies that need to be evaluated and remedied. The spillway is adjudged to be seriously inadequate and the dam is assessed as unsafe, nonemergency. It should be noted that Eaton Brook Reservoir Dam is located approximately 2.2 miles upstream of Clayton's Dam on Eaton Brook. Its spillway has also been adjudged to be seriously inadequate and the dam assessed as unsafe, nonemergency. Due to the appreciable size of Eaton Reservoir, the breaching of that dam would undoubtedly have a serious effect on Clayton's Dam. Similarly, the failure of either of these dams would have a serious effect on two small dams also on Eaton Brook, located 0.5 miles and 1.7 miles downstream of Clayton's Dam.

Book National Dam Safety Program Sixmile Creek Dam Inventory Number N Y 395 Oswego River Basin Tompkins County New York Phase I Inspection Report

Download or read book National Dam Safety Program Sixmile Creek Dam Inventory Number N Y 395 Oswego River Basin Tompkins County New York Phase I Inspection Report written by George P. Fulton and published by . This book was released on 1981 with total page 96 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Visual inspection of the dam did not reveal any conditions which constitute an immediate hazard to human life or property. However, several deficiencies were noted which should be evaluated and remedied. The most serious deficiency was a lack of a safe, suitable access to the operating mechanism for the low-level outlet. In the event of an emergency at the dam, it would be extremely difficult to dewater the reservoir under present conditions. The hydrologic/hydraulic analysis performed indicates that the spillway does not have sufficient capacity to discharge the peak outflow from storms exceeding 7.5 percent of the Probable Maximum Flood (PMF). Since the spillway already extends across the full width of the gorge, there is no way to effectively increase its length or capacity. In addition, it should be noted that even if the dam did not exist, downstream flooding would occur during large storm events due to the configuration of the bedrock channel.

Book National Dam Safety Program Upper Fulton Dam Inventory Number NY 408 Oswego River Basin Oswego County New York Phase I Inspection Report

Download or read book National Dam Safety Program Upper Fulton Dam Inventory Number NY 408 Oswego River Basin Oswego County New York Phase I Inspection Report written by John B. Stetson and published by . This book was released on 1979 with total page 180 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report provides information and analysis on the physical condition of the dam as of the report date. Information and analysis are based on visual inspection of the dam by the performing organization. Examination of available documents and a visual inspection of the dam did not reveal conditions which constitute an immediate hazard to human life or property. However, additional studies should be undertaken to further evaluate conditions affecting the dam. Computations prepared according to the Corps of Engineers' Screening Criteria establish the spillway capacity of 50,000 cfs at 61% of the PMF, with PMF and 1/2 PMF flows at 81,900 cfs and 46,800 cfs respectively. The spillway has been determined to be inadequate to pass the PMF. However, the spillway is not considered seriously inadequate, based on the Corps of Engineers' Screening criteria, since the dam is capable of passing the 1/2 PMF without being overtopped.

Book National Dam Safety Program Keuka Lake Outlet Dam Inventory Number NY 390 Oswego River Basin Yates County New York Phase 1 Inspection Report

This book was released on 1980 with total page 112 pages. Several deficiencies were noted and these should be corrected within 6 months of the date of the final approval of this report. Among the other actions which should be taken are repairing concrete on the post supporting the northern slide gate, filling the small scoured areas behind the sheet pile wall and monitoring the leakage through the masonry wall. In addition, a detailed emergency operation- action plan and warnng system should be developed. The spillways do not have sufficient capacity to discharge the peak outflow from one-half the Probable Maximum Flood (PMF). For this storm event and lesser events, high discharges will cause damage in the channel downstream of the dam. However, dam failure would not significantly increase the hazard to loss of lie downstream from that which would exist just prior to an overtopping-induced failure. Therefore, the spillway is assessed as inadequate.
