This book was released on 1980 with total page 90 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Lake Sheridan Dam is a rubble masonary and concrete gravity dam. The dam is 89 feet long and 9 feet high. The intercore of the dam consists of the original rubble masonry construction. The concrete portion of the dam was added during the 1966 modifications. The dam consists of an overflow and a non-overflow section. The overflow section of the dam serves as the normal spillway for the reservoir. The crest length of the spillway is 40 feet. A reservoir drain valve is located on the upstream end of the right non-overflow section. In general, the dam appears to be in good condition. The spillway design flood for this dam is the 1/2 PMF to PMF. The spillway design flood was selected as the PMF (probable maximum flood) based on the downstream potential for loss of life and property damage. The spillway is capable of controlling only 2% of the PMF. Based on criteria established by the Corps of Engineers, the spillway is termed inadequate. Since Lake Sheridan Dam's non-overflow section consists of a concrete section over rubble masonry, the non-overflow section should be capable of safely controlling a partial overflow. However, the amount of overtopping that can be safely controlled is unknown. In this case the amount of overtopping is directly related to the structural stability of the dam. No visible seepage or other obvious deficiencies affecting the stability of the dam were noted during the inspection.

This book was released on 1979 with total page 66 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Saddle Lake Dam is a homogeneous earthfill structure with an earthfilled cutoff trench at the center of the embankment foundation. The top of the dam embankment is 24 feet above the streambed elevation. The main embankment is 350 feet in length to where it meets a natural high knoll at its right abutment. The knoll is about 100 feet across beyond which a second embankment section has been constructed extending approximately another 400 feet to the right where it abuts the natural ground surface. An uncontrolled concrete triangular weir spillway is located at the left abutment of the main embankment. The approach to the spillway is through a 45 foot wide approach channel from the left side of the reservoir. This channel is a 90 deg curved section about 200 feet in length. The spillway outlet channel has a concrete slab and 2H to 1V sloped concrete side walls and extends 57 feet downstream from the crest of the weir. Beyond this point, the channel is paved with riprap including a stilling basin about 200 feet further downstream.

This book was released on 1980 with total page 62 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Stevens Lake Dam is an earthfill dam, 99 feet long and 9 feet high. The crest width of the dam is 12 feet. The upstream slope is 3H:1V and protected with handplaced riprap. The downstream slope is 2.5H:1V and is grass covered. The spillway is located at the center of the embankment and consists of a concrete structure with a modified sharp crested weir. The spillway is equipped with wooden stop logs located along the right spillway wingwall. The 5 feet long wooden stop logs are used to regulate the level of the reservoir pool below the spillway weir elevation. The length of the weir is 52 feet long. The inspection and review of data of Stevens Lake Dam did not reveal any problems which require emergency action. The dam appears to be in good condition and adequately maintained. The spillway and reservior are capable of controlling approximately 53% of the PMF. Based on criteria established by the Corps of Engineers, the spillway is termed inadequate.

Download or read book National Dam Inspection Program Perrins Marsh Dam NDI I D PA 0886 DER I D 066 005 Susquehanna River Basin Whitelock Creek Wyoming County Pennsylvania Phase I Inspection Report written by Lawrence D. Andersen and published by . This book was released on 1981 with total page 55 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Perrins Marsh Dam, which is also known as Brown's Pond Dam or Schoonover's Lake, consists of a six-foot-high stone wall, backed by earth fill on the upstream side. In its present configuration, the dam appears to be about 50 to 60 feet long, with a 28-foot-long segment forming the overflow section of the dam. The overflow section is capped with a six-foot-wide concrete slab which appears to be about one foot thick. The earth fills flanking the overflow section gradually merge into the natural abutments with no discernible embankment-abutment junction. The dam does not appear to have any low level outlet facilities. It appears that this dam was constructed at the outlet of a natural lake to raise the lake level. The dam is classified to be in the significant hazard category. Below the dam, Whitelock Creek flows about 150 feet, falls over a stone wall, then flows under a bridge. A house located downstream of the bridge is considered to be in the floodplain of the creek. The stream flows adjacent to a rural residential area for approximately one mile, and then discharges to an essentially uninhabited valley. It is estimated that a failure of this dam would likely cause damage to the downstream bridges and property in the rural residential area. Loss of a few lives is considered possible.

Book National Dam Inspection Program Maple Lake Dam NDI ID Number PA 01026 DER ID Number 57 38 Susquehanna River Basin Branch of Blackwater Run Sullivan County Pennsylvania Phase I Inspection Report

Download or read book National Dam Inspection Program Maple Lake Dam NDI ID Number PA 01026 DER ID Number 57 38 Susquehanna River Basin Branch of Blackwater Run Sullivan County Pennsylvania Phase I Inspection Report written by and published by . This book was released on 1981 with total page 100 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Maple Lake Dam is an earthfill embankment 14.4 feet high and 283 feet long, excluding spillway. The emergency spillway is located at the left abutment, consisting of an earth channel having a trapezoidal cross section. The bottom width of the spillway at the reservoir outlet is 56 feet. A service spillway, consisting of a 12-inch riser pipe and an 8-inch diameter outlet pipe, is located approximately 100 feet from the right abutment. The outlet works was reported to consist of an 8-inch diameter asbestos cement pipe, extending upstream of the riser pipe to the reservoir and terminating with two sections of an 8-inch diameter vitrified clay pipe, having a concrete plug at the inlet. Based on visual inspection, the Maple Lake Dam is judged to be in good condition. Under the present conditions, the spillway will pass approximately 37 percent of the PMF. Should the top of the dam be restored to its design elevation, the spillway could pass the SDF without overtopping the dam.

Download or read book National Dam Inspection Program Lake Chillisquaque NDS ID Number PA 815 DER ID Number 47 8 Susquehanna River Basin Middle Branch of Chillisquaque Creek Montour County Pennsylvania Phase I Inspection Report written by R. Jeffrey Kimball and published by . This book was released on 1979 with total page 69 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Lake Chillisquaque is an earth-fill dam 2000 feet long and 54 feet high. The dam is a zoned earth embankment with a center core consisting of silty clay material and the upstream and downstream portions consisting of weathered shale. The upstream and downstream slopes were constructed at 2.5H:1V with berms at elevation 582.0. The crest of the dam is 12 feet wide and forms an access road at elevation 605.5. The outlet works consist of a concrete control tower connected to two 36 in. steel pipes encased in concrete. The outlet works has a positive upstream shut off in the form of a bulkhead. The flow through these pipes is regulated by a 36 in. sluice gate, an 18 in. cone valve or an 8 in. by pass valve. At the toe of the dam is a valve house to control flow through these pipes. The earthen emergency spillway is located on the left abutment and contains a concrete sill 750 feet long. The spillway discharge channel is 1300 feet long and discharges to a natural stream. Book National Dam Inspection Program NDI ID Number PA 00893 DER ID Number 66 35 Winola Mill Pond Dam Susquehanna River Basin Tributary to Beaver Creek Wyoming County Pennsylvania Phase I Inspection Report

Download or read book National Dam Inspection Program NDI ID Number PA 00893 DER ID Number 66 35 Winola Mill Pond Dam Susquehanna River Basin Tributary to Beaver Creek Wyoming County Pennsylvania Phase I Inspection Report written by Frederick Futchko and published by . This book was released on 1979 with total page 92 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Based on visual inspection, available records, calculations and past operational performance, and according to criteria established for these studies, Winola Mill Pond Dam is judged to be unsafe, nonemergency, because the spillway capacity is rated as seriously inadequate. The existing walls of the main spillway will overtop at about 6 percent of the Probable Maximum Flood(PMF). Overtopping of the walls will cause erosion of the dry masonry section of the dam. It is estimated that the 15 percent PMF would cause sufficient erosion to cause the dam to fail. The initial surge from the failure of the dam would increase the hazard to loss of life downstream. As a whole, the dam is judged to be in fair condition. Cracks have developed in the concrete liner wall on the upstream face of the dry masonry. Excessive leakage and a hole in the upstream earthfill had previously developed and the repairs made to the structure do not eliminate the possibility of these conditions reoccurring. Although a preliminary stability analysis indicates no apparent need for immediate concern, the theoretical stability of Winola Mill Pond Dam is unknown because the foundation conditions are unknown.
