Book National Dam Inspection Program Lake Jamie Dam NDI ID Number PA 00778 DER ID Number 45 220 Delaware River Basin Leavitt Branch of Brodhead Creek Monroe County Pennsylvania Phase I Inspection Report

Download or read book National Dam Inspection Program Lake Jamie Dam NDI ID Number PA 00778 DER ID Number 45 220 Delaware River Basin Leavitt Branch of Brodhead Creek Monroe County Pennsylvania Phase I Inspection Report written by Frederick Futchko and published by . This book was released on 1980 with total page 78 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Based on available records, visual inspection, calculations, and past operational performance, Lake Jamie Dam is judged to be in fair condition. The recommended Spillway Design Flood (SDF) for the size and hazard classification of the dam varies between the 1/2 Probable Maximum Flood (PMF) and the PMF. Based on the criteria and the downstream conditions, the selected SDF at the dam is the PMF. Based on existing conditions, the spillways will pass about 46 percent of the PMF before overtopping of the dam occurs. However, it is judged that the dam could just withstand the depth and duration of overtopping that would occur for the 1/2 PMF. If the low areas on the top of the embankment were filled to the design elevation, the spillways would pass about 77 percent of the PMF. For either condition, the spillway capacity is rated as inadequate, but not seriously inadequate. The steep downstream slope and the seepage at the dam indicate that the embankment stability may be marginal for the normal operating condition. The main spillway weir is judged to be stable. The ability of the emergency drawdown facility to function is uncertain. The dam has significant deviations from the design data. Maintenance at the dam needs to be improved. (Author).

Book National Dam Inspection Program Lake In The Clouds Dam NDI ID Number PA 00741 DER ID Number 52 125 Delaware River Basin Leavitt Branch of Brodhead Creek Pike County Pennsylvania Phase I Inspection Report

Download or read book National Dam Inspection Program Lake In The Clouds Dam NDI ID Number PA 00741 DER ID Number 52 125 Delaware River Basin Leavitt Branch of Brodhead Creek Pike County Pennsylvania Phase I Inspection Report written by Frederick Futchko and published by . This book was released on 1980 with total page 102 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Based on criteria established for these studies, Lake-In-The-Clouds Dam is judged to be unsafe, nonemergency, because the spillway capacity is seriously inadequate. The recommended Spillway Design Flood (SDF) for the size and hazard classification of the dam varies between 1/2 the Probable Maximum Flood (PMF) and the PMF. Based on the criteria and the downstream conditions, the selected SDF is the PMF. Based on existing conditions, with the embankment above its design elevation, the spillway will pass about 35 percent of the PMF before overtopping of the dam occurs. Failure of the dam would cause the probable overtopping and failure of a high hazard dam that is downstream. As a whole, the dam is judged to be in fair condition. No significant stability problems were observed at the embankment. The ability of the emergency drawdown facility to function is uncertain because it has not been operated recently. Maintenance at the dam is inadequate.

Book National Dam Inspection Program Skytop Dam NDS I D Number PA 00634 DER I D Number 45 71 Delaware River Basin Leavitt Branch Brodhead Creek Monroe County Pennsylvania Phase I Inspection Report

Download or read book National Dam Inspection Program Skytop Dam NDS I D Number PA 00634 DER I D Number 45 71 Delaware River Basin Leavitt Branch Brodhead Creek Monroe County Pennsylvania Phase I Inspection Report written by WOODWARD-CLYDE CONSULTANTS PLYMOUTH MEETING PA. and published by . This book was released on 1979 with total page 84 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Skytop Dam is a 19 foot high zoned embankment with an 18 foot high concrete core wall. The dam impounds a 68-acre reservoir. The embankment downstream of the core wall is composed of a porous gravelly material. The downstream slope is 2H:1V. Immediately upstream of the core wall is a triangle-shaped impervious zone. The remaining portion of the upstream zone is composed of a 'dirty' gravel and protected with hand-placed riprap. The upstream slope is 2H:1V. The crest is 24 feet wide. The structure has a gatehouse located at the upstream toe. The gatehouse tower contains a wooden sluice gate with a screened entrance, and a 'Wilcox' gate valve inside the tower, which allows water to enter a 24-inch cast iron pipe. The 24-inch blow off pipe discharges at the downstream toe into the middle of the three lakes, Skytop Dam being the upper and largest of the three lakes on this property.

Book National Dam Inspection Program Mountain Springs Lake Dam NDI ID Number PA 00770 DER ID Number 45 42 Delaware River Basin Appenzell Creek Monroe County Pennsylvania Phase I Inspection Report

Download or read book National Dam Inspection Program Mountain Springs Lake Dam NDI ID Number PA 00770 DER ID Number 45 42 Delaware River Basin Appenzell Creek Monroe County Pennsylvania Phase I Inspection Report written by Jack B. Rader and published by . This book was released on 1980 with total page 81 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Based on visual inspection, available records, calculations and past operational performance, and according to criteria established for these studies, Mountain Springs Lake Dam is judged to be unsafe, non-emergency, because the spillway capacity is rated as seriously inadequate. The existing spillway will pass only about 10 percent of the Probable Maximum Flood (PMF) before overtopping of the dam occurs. It is judged that the dam could not withstand the depth and duration of overtopping that would occur for the 1/2 PMF. Failure of the dam would cause an increased hazard for loss of life downstream. As a whole, the dam is judged to be in fair condition. No stability problems were evident for the dam or appurtenant structures. The ability of the outlet works to function is unknown. There are no known upstream closure facilities. Maintenance of the dam is not adequate. Both the dam and the dike are overgrown with trees.

This book was released on 1981 with total page 60 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Analomink Lake Dam is an 11-foot high, 280-foot long rock fill and earth embankment, built approximately 70 years ago to provide an impoundment for recreational purposes. The dam has an average crest width of eight feet and a downstream slope which varies from 1H:1V to nearly vertical. The upstream face of the dam is almost completely submerged, but it is believed to have a much flatter slope than the downstream face. The Spillway is classified as Inadequate. Based upon the inspection of the dam and review of the information provided by the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Resources (DER), Analomink Lake Dam is considered to be in poor condition.

Book National Dam Inspection Program Wigwam Lake Dam NDI ID Number PA 00990 DER ID Number 45 124 Delaware River Basin Wigwam Run Monroe County Pennsylvania Phase I Inspection Report

Download or read book National Dam Inspection Program Wigwam Lake Dam NDI ID Number PA 00990 DER ID Number 45 124 Delaware River Basin Wigwam Run Monroe County Pennsylvania Phase I Inspection Report written by Gideon Yachin and published by . This book was released on 1981 with total page 90 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Wigwam Lake Dam is located on Wigwam Run in Stroud Township, Monroe County, one mile east of Bartonsville, Pennsylvania. The original purpose of the impounded water was for ice making and recreation. Presently, the lake is being used for recreation. The overall appearance of the dam and its appurtenant structures is considered to be poor. The locations of observed deficiencies are shown on the Sketch Plan. The profile and typical sections of the dam are presented, and are based on field survey made on the day of inspection. The survey datum for this inspection was an approximate elevation obtained for the spillway crest from a USGS map. The construction drawings for the dam and appurtenant structures are shown. The elevations shown on the construction drawings are based on a different datum than that of the USGS map. Therefore, to convert the elevations shown on the appended construction drawings to the elevations used in this report, it is necessary to add 609 feet to the elevations shown on the appended drawings. On the inspection date (11/26/80), the lake level was 0.1 foot above the spillway crest (elevation 708 above mean sea level). Deficiencies observed during the field inspection are describes. Visible features of the dam are depicted in photographs.

Book National Dam Inspection Program Lake Swiftwater Dam NDS ID 00776 DER ID 45 134 Delaware River Basin Swiftwater Creek Monroe County Pennsylvania Phase I Inspection Report

This book was released on 1979 with total page 84 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Lake Swiftwater Dam is a 31 + or - foot high zoned embankment containing an impervious core founded in hardpan. The embankment has upstream and downstream slopes of 2.5H:1V and a crest width of 10 feet. When the old spillway was relocated to the right abutment, the embankment section was reconstructed and is a homogeneous embankment with an eight foot wide cutoff trench founded on impervious materials. The upstream and downstream slopes were both constructed at 2.5H:1V with a 10 foot crest width. The upstream slope of the whole embankment is protected with riprap, minimum thickness being 18 inches on the new embankment and 12 inches on the old embankment. The embankment impounds a 21-acre reservoir. The embankment also contains a gatehouse tower located near the crest of the dam approximately midway along the length of the embankment. The gatehouse tower contains a steel sluice gate manufactured by the Caldwell-Wilcox Company. Documentation in the files indicates that the intake pipe is 42 inches in diameter, located at the base of the embankment, and encased in concrete with anti-seep collars.

Download or read book National Dam Inspection Program Monroe Lake Dam NDI I D Number PA 00633 PennDER I D Number 45 117 Delaware River Basin Bear Swamp Run Monroe County Pennsylvania Phase I Inspection Report written by Bernard M. Mihalcin and published by . This book was released on 1981 with total page 95 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Monroe Lake Dam is located on Bear Swamp Run, a tributary to Marshall Creek, in Middle Smithfield Township, Monroe County, Pennsylvania. The facility is less than five miles north of the community of Marshalls Creek, Pennsylvania and approximately eight miles north of the city of East Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania. Observations made during the visual inspection indicate the embankment is in fair condition. The structure is characterized as very irregular and poorly aligned both horizontally and vertically. The downstream embankment toe is partially inundated by water that may be attributable to seepage through the embankment and/or leakage through or around the conduit. The water is trapped in a trough area between the embankments of the dam and the downstream roadway. The condition may be exaggerated because the drainage culvert under the road appears to be partially obstructed. Minor erosion was observed along both the upstream and downstream dam faces. Although particularly evident along the upstream slope adjacent the outlet riser and along the steepest portions of the downstream slope, the erosion is not considered to be significant at this time. Field measurements indicate low areas along the embankment crest between one-half and two feet below the elevation of the left spillway wingwall. The crest is covered with gravel and the slopes with weedlike vegetation.
