Book National Dam Inspection Program Deer Valley Lake Dam NDS I D Number PA 00230 PennDer I D Number 56 76 Ohio River Basin Cove Run Somerset County Pennsylvania Phase I Inspection Report

Download or read book National Dam Inspection Program Deer Valley Lake Dam NDS I D Number PA 00230 PennDer I D Number 56 76 Ohio River Basin Cove Run Somerset County Pennsylvania Phase I Inspection Report written by Bernard M. Mihalcin and published by . This book was released on 1979 with total page 83 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Based on a visual inspection, operational history, and available engineering data, the dam is considered to be in fair condition. Structural deficiencies noted during the inspection include an inoperable drawdown mechanism, seepage and ponded conditions at the downstream toe, dense overgrowth (bushes, weeds, small trees) on the down stream slope, and minor concrete deterioration in the spillway. The size classification of the facility is intermediate and its hazard classification is considered to be significant. In accordance with recommended guidelines, the Spillway Design Flood (SDF) for this facility is 1/2 the Probable Maximum Flood (PMF). Results of the hydrologic and hydraulic analysis indicate that the facility can accommodate approximately 32 percent of the PMF and/or 64 percent of SDF (1/2 PMF). Thus, the spillway system is considered inadequate, but not seriously inadequate.

Book National Dam Inspection Program Lake Somerset Dam NDS I D Number PA 00229 PennDer I D Number 56 89 Ohio River Basin East Branch of Coxes Creek Somerset County Pennsylvania Phase I Inspection Report

Download or read book National Dam Inspection Program Lake Somerset Dam NDS I D Number PA 00229 PennDer I D Number 56 89 Ohio River Basin East Branch of Coxes Creek Somerset County Pennsylvania Phase I Inspection Report written by Bernard M. Mihalcin and published by . This book was released on 1979 with total page 85 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Based on the visual inspection, operational history, and available engineering data, the dam, despite being well maintained, is considered to be in poor condition. Observations made during the visual inspection suggest that the embankment may be structurally unsafe as extensive areas of seepage were noted on the downstream embankment slope and immediately below the toe area to the right of the outlet conduit. Seepage conditions became evident shortly after reservoir filling and have persisted in spite of the installation of a remedial sand drain system near the toe. Failure of the embankment does not appear imminent and the condition is presently considered non-emergency. It is recommended that the owner immediately develop and implement a warning system to notify downstream inhabitants should hazardous conditions develop. Included in the plan should be provisions for around-the-clock surveillance of the facility during periods of unusually heavy precipitation.

Book excerpt: Gallo Dam is a 29-foot high earth embankment approximately 690 feet long (including spillway). The embankment is reportedly comprised of 3 sections which include an impervious core, a semi-pervious upstream section and a pervious downstream section. The facility is served by a chute channel spillway, with discharges controlled by a free overfall, concrete weir structure. The spillway is located near the right abutment, and has a crest length of 39 feet. In addition, the facility is equipped with a 18-inch diameter steel pipe encased in concrete used as a low level outlet as well as a 16-inch diameter steel siphon which was installed in 1973.

Mihalcin and published by . This book was released on 1979 with total page 92 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Based on the visual inspection, operational history, and available engineering data, the dam and its appurtenances are considered to be in good condition. The size classification for the facility is intermediate and the hazard classification is high. In accordance with the recommended guidelines, the Spillway Design Flood (SDF) for the facility is the Probable Maximum Flood (PMF). Results of the hydrologic and hydraulic analysis indicate that the facility is capable of passing and/or storing only 36 percent of the PMF. The analysis also indicates that spillway discharges are controlled by the downstream valley capacity when the flow over the weir exceeds approximately 3 feet (10 feet below the embankment) after which the pool level and tailwater will rise at roughly the same rate. Thus, failure from overtopping is essentially precluded and the spillway is considered inadequate, but not seriously inadequate. The consequences of embankment inundation by tailwater and subsequent rapid drawdown are uncertain; although, it is noted that portions of the downstream slope are designated as pervious fill and rock toe on the design drawings. This construction is favorable with respect to rapid drawdown response; however, thorough inspection of the embankment should be performed during and after inundation.

Mihalcin and published by . This book was released on 1979 with total page 87 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The visual inspection, operational history, and hydrologic/hydraulic analysis indicate the facility is in good condition. It is recommended that the owner: (a) Immediately fill and seal all cracks within the interior of the outlet conduit. (b) Specifically address the seepage condition observed to the right of the spillway in all future inspections and note any turbidity or changes in the rate of flow. (c) Re-evaluate and revise the present standard flood emergency procedures in accordance with, but not limited to, the following items: (1) Include a definite procedure of notifying downstream residents of a possible emergency. (2) Provide for an alternate means of communication in the event telephone lines become inoperative. (3) Provide for around-the-clock surveillance of the facility during periods of unusually heavy precipitation. (d) Provide additional riprap protection along the right sidewall of the spillway approach channel.

Mihalcin and published by . This book was released on 1979 with total page 85 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Base on a visual inspection, operational history, and available engineering data, the dam is considered to be in fair condition. The size classification of the facility is small and its hazard classification is considered to be high. In accordance with the recommended guidelines, the Spillway Design Flood (SDF) for the facility is the Probable Maximum Flood (PMF). Results of the hydrologic and hydraulic analysis indicate the facility will pass and/or store about 62 percent of the PMF prior to embankment overtopping. Consequently, the spillway is assessed as being inadequate, but not seriously inadequate. Deficiencies noted by the inspection team included heavy overgrowth across the downstream toe, a questionable structural and foundation design associated with the spillway, and an inadequate emergency warning system.

Book National Dam Inspection Program Indian Lake Dam NDI ID Number 228 Ohio River Basin Calendars Run Somerset County Pennsylvania Phase I Inspection Report

Download or read book National Dam Inspection Program Indian Lake Dam NDI ID Number 228 Ohio River Basin Calendars Run Somerset County Pennsylvania Phase I Inspection Report written by D'APPOLONIA CONSULTING ENGINEERS INC PITTSBURGH PA. and published by . This book was released on 1978 with total page 65 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Based on the evaluation of the conditions as they existed on the dates of inspection (May 17 and 30, 1978), as revealed by the visual observations, and the review of available information, the condition of Indian Lake Dam is assessed to require immediate further investigation to determine its structural stability and appropriate measures for controlling seepage through the embankment. Field observations show that wet areas and slope irregularities exist on the downstream face of the dam, which suggests potential instability of the embankment. Various seepages on the left abutment also require further evaluation. The outlet pipe gate, which is the only emergency drawdown facility for the impoundment, is inoperative and should be repaired immmediately. Based on the recommended spillway evaluation procedure, the capacity of the spillway was found to be adequate to pass the recommended flow of probable maximum flood. It is recommended that the owner should develop a formal warning system to alert the downstream residents in the event of emergencies.

Book National Dam Inspection Program Cherry Run Dam NDS I D Number PA 00278 PENNDER I D Number 32 40 Ohio River Basin Cherry Run Indiana County Pennsylvania Phase I Inspection Report

Download or read book National Dam Inspection Program Cherry Run Dam NDS I D Number PA 00278 PENNDER I D Number 32 40 Ohio River Basin Cherry Run Indiana County Pennsylvania Phase I Inspection Report written by Bernard M. Mihalcin and published by . This book was released on 1979 with total page 103 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cherry Run Dam is a zoned earth embankment with a central concrete corewall. The embankment measures approximately 430 feet long (including spillway) and 22 feet high. The facility is provided with an ogee-shaped concrete spillway located about 100 feet from the right abutment. The spillway crest is 132 feet long. Based on a visual inspection, maintenance of Cherry Run Dam appears minimal to non-existent and the facility is considered to be in poor condition. Deficiencies noted by the inspection team included heavy overgrowth of the embankment sections (particularly to the right of the spillway), delamination of the spillway surface, cracking and misalignment of the spillway wingwalls, heavy overgrowth within the discharge channel, an inoperable outlet works, and no emergency warning systems in effect. Results of the hydrologic and hydraulic analysis indicate the facility will pass and/or store only 40 percent of the PMF prior to embankment overtopping. A Breach analysis indicates that failure under less than 1/2 PMF conditions could lead to increased downstream damage and potential for loss of life. Thus, based on screening criteria provided in the recommended guidelines, the spillway is considered to be seriously inadequate and the facility unsafe, non-emergency.

Book National Dam Inspection Program High Point Lake NDI Number PA 231 Ohio River Basin Negro Glade Run Somerset County Pennsylvania Phase I Inspection Report

Download or read book National Dam Inspection Program High Point Lake NDI Number PA 231 Ohio River Basin Negro Glade Run Somerset County Pennsylvania Phase I Inspection Report written by GAI CONSULTANTS INC MONROEVILLE PA. and published by . This book was released on 1978 with total page 69 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Based on a visual inspection, past performance, and available engineering data, the facility is considered in good condition. The spillway and reservoir are capable of passing and/or storing the flow resulting from a storm of PMF magnitude without overtopping; consequently, the spillway is considered adequate. It is recommended that the owner: (a) Fill in the erosion gullies that have developed to the right of the spillway sidewall with materials that will retard further erosion. The seepage should also be monitored to insure that the condition does not worsen, (b) Develop a formal warning system to notify downstream residents should hazardous conditions develop, and (c) Develop a manual for the operation and maintenance of the outlet works at the facility. (Author).

Book National Dam Inspection Program Bigby Run Dam NDI ID Number PA 226 DER ID Number 56 21 Ohio River Basin Bigby Creek Somerset County Pennsylvania Phase I Inspection Report

Download or read book National Dam Inspection Program Bigby Run Dam NDI ID Number PA 226 DER ID Number 56 21 Ohio River Basin Bigby Creek Somerset County Pennsylvania Phase I Inspection Report written by and published by . This book was released on 1981 with total page 77 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The assessment of Bigby Run Dam is based upon visual observations made at the time of inspection, review of available records and data, hydraulic and hydrologic computations and past operational performance. The Bigby Run Dam appears to be in fair condition. Maintenance is considered fair. The concrete spillway is deteriorating with marked deterioration on the right spillway wall. Minor seepage was observed at the toe of the dam, adjacent to the left abutment contact. Seepage was estimated at 2 to 5 gallons per minute. The seepage should be monitored. The Bigby Run Dam is a high hazard-small size dam. The recommended Spillway Design Flood (SDF), for a dam of this size and classification, is in the range of 1/2 PMF to PMF. Since the Bigby Run Dam just meets the minimum criteria; and since the dam is located in a rural area suggesting only appreciable economic loss; compliance with the current practice of the Baltimore District Corps of Engineers leads to the selection of the 1/2 PMF as the Spillway Design Flood (SDF).

Book National Dam Inspection Program Pocono Woodland Lake Dam NDI I D Number PA 00443 PennDER I D Number 52 179 Delaware River Basin Branch of Raymondskill Creek Pike County Pennsylvania Phase I Inspection Report

Download or read book National Dam Inspection Program Pocono Woodland Lake Dam NDI I D Number PA 00443 PennDER I D Number 52 179 Delaware River Basin Branch of Raymondskill Creek Pike County Pennsylvania Phase I Inspection Report written by Bernard M. Mihalcin and published by . This book was released on 1981 with total page 74 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Based on the visual inspection, operational history, and available engineering data, the dam and its appurtenances are considered to be in excellent condition. The size classification of the facility is small and the hazard classification is high. In accordance with the recommended guidelines, the Spillway Design Flood (SDF) ranges between the 1/2 PMF (Probable Maximum Flood) and the PMF. Since the facility is classified near the lower bounds of the small category, the SDF is considered to be the 1/2 PMF. Results of hydrologic and hydraulic analysis indicate that the facility is capable of accommodating about 76 percent of the PMF prior to embankment overtopping. As a result, the spillway is deemed adequate.
