Book National Dam Inspection Program Crystal Dam NDS ID Number PA 00677 DER ID Number 54 15 Municipal Authority of the Township of Blythe Delaware River Basin West Branch Schuylkill River Schuylkill County Pennsylvania Phase I Inspection Report

Download or read book National Dam Inspection Program Crystal Dam NDS ID Number PA 00677 DER ID Number 54 15 Municipal Authority of the Township of Blythe Delaware River Basin West Branch Schuylkill River Schuylkill County Pennsylvania Phase I Inspection Report written by GANNETT FLEMING CORDDRY AND CARPENTER INC HARRISBURG PA. and published by . This book was released on 1978 with total page 91 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Based on the visual inspection, available records, calculations and past operational performance, Crystal Dam is judged to be in good condition. However, the spillway will not pass the Probable Maximum Flood (PMF) or one-half of the PMF without overtopping. If Crystal Dam should fail due to overtopping, the hazard to loss of life downstream from the dam would be significantly increased from that which would exist just prior to overtopping. Based on criteria established for these studies by the Department of the Army, Office of the Chief of Engineers (OCE), the spillway capacity is rated as seriously inadequate. The existing spillway can accommodate a flood with a peak inflow of 37 percent of the PMF peak flow. If the low areas of the top of the embankment were brought up to design grade, the spillway could accommodate a flood with a peak inflow of 61 percent of the PMF peak inflow. The spillway would then be rated as inadequate instead of seriously inadequate.

Book National Dam Inspection Program Lower Dam NDS I D Number PA 697 DER I D Number 54 57 Delaware River Basin Silfis Run Schuylkill County Orwigsburg Water Authority Phase I Inspection Report

Download or read book National Dam Inspection Program Lower Dam NDS I D Number PA 697 DER I D Number 54 57 Delaware River Basin Silfis Run Schuylkill County Orwigsburg Water Authority Phase I Inspection Report written by KIMBALL (L ROBERT) AND ASSOCIATES EBENSBURG PA. and published by . This book was released on 1980 with total page 75 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The assessment of Lower Dam is based upon visual observations made at the time of inspection, review of available records and data, hydraulic and hydrologic computations and past operational performance. Lower Dam is a high hazard-intermediate size dam. The spillway design flood (SDF) is the PMF (Probable Maximum Flood). The exisitng spillway and reservoir are capable of controlling approximately 15% of the PMF. Based on criteria established by the Corps of Engineers, the spillway is termed inadequate. If Lower Dam should fail due to overtopping, the hazard to loss of life and property downstream from the dam would not be significantly increased from that would exist just prior to overtopping. Extensive seepage is exiting through or beneath the dam. In addition, the embankment or foundation materials may be piping due to the excessive seepage. The dam appears to be in poor condition. As a result, the dam is considered an unsafe, nonemergency dam. (Author).

Book National Dam Inspection Program Lakeside Dam NDS I D Number PA 00742 DER I D Number 54 60 Delaware River Basin Pine Creek Schuylkill County Pennsylvania Phase I Inspection Report

Download or read book National Dam Inspection Program Lakeside Dam NDS I D Number PA 00742 DER I D Number 54 60 Delaware River Basin Pine Creek Schuylkill County Pennsylvania Phase I Inspection Report written by WOODWARD-CLYDE CONSULTANTS PLYMOUTH MEETING PA. and published by . This book was released on 1980 with total page 93 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Lakeside Dam is privately owned, and the reservoir is used for recreational purposes. The dam and spillway structures are currently in poor condition. In accordance with criteria established by Federal (OCE) Guidelines, the recommended spillway design flood for this 'Small' size dam and 'Significant' hazard classification is the 100 Year Flood to one-half the Probable Maximum Flood (PMF). Based on the damage center located 2,000 feet downstream of the dam, the one-half PMF event has been selected as the spillway design flood. Hydrologic and hydraulic computations presented in Appendix D indicate that the spillway structure is capable of discharging less than 0.1 PMF without overtopping the embankment. As the structure will not discharge the spillway design flood without overtopping the embankment, it is considered to have an 'Inadequate' spillway. (Author).

Book National Dam Inspection Program Flat Rock Dam NDS I D Number PA 00896 DER I D Number 51 1 Delaware River Basin Schuylkill River Montgomery and Philadelphia Counties Pennsylvania Phase I Inspection Report

Beck and published by . This book was released on 1980 with total page 102 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Flat Rock Dam is owned by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, and the pool formed is used primarily for recreational purposes. The left abutment of the dam abuts the Manayunk Canal wall owned by the City of Philadelphia. Visual inspection of the exposed sections of the dam, review of available data and simplified calculations presented in Appendix D indicate the dam is in good condition. No data other than Plate 12, Appendix E, were available for the canal wall. Calculations presented in Appendix G indicate the wall is marginally stable under assumed conditions. The results of the stability analysis are at variance with the canal wall's demonstrated performance history.

Book National Dam Inspection Program Lower Owl Creek Dam NDS ID Number PA 00674 DER ID Number 54 2 Delaware River Basin Owl Creek Schuylkill County Pennsylvania Phase I Inspection Report

Download or read book National Dam Inspection Program Lower Owl Creek Dam NDS ID Number PA 00674 DER ID Number 54 2 Delaware River Basin Owl Creek Schuylkill County Pennsylvania Phase I Inspection Report written by WOODWARD-CLYDE CONSULTANTS PLYMOUTH MEETING PA. and published by . This book was released on 1980 with total page 96 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Lower Owl Creek Dam is owned by the Borough of Tamaqua, and the reservoir is used for water supply purposes. The original dam was built in 1882 or 1883, and several major renovations have been performed since, the latest being in 1928. The visual inspection disclosed that the emergency spillway has been partially filled in. The embankment is currently in good condition, and the siphon spillway is in fair condition. In accordance with criteria established by Federal (OCE) Guidelines, the recommended spillway design flood for this 'Small' size dam and 'High' hazard classification is one-half to the full Probable Maximum Flood (PMF). The one-half PMF has been selected as the spillway design flood. Hydrologic and hydraulic computations presented in Appendix D indicate that the combined siphon and emergency spillway structures are capable of discharging about 21 percent of the PMF without overtopping the embankment under existing conditions. If the emergency spillway was restored to its original condition, the spillway systems would be capable of discharging about 59 percent of the PMF without overtopping the embankment. As the structure will not pass the spillway design flood under existing conditions and is not assessed to fail during one-half the PMF, the spillway is considered to be 'Inadequate' but not 'Seriously Inadequate'. Book National Dam Inspection Program New Kernsville Dam NDS ID Number PA 00723 DER ID Number 6 434 Delaware River Basin Schuylkill River Berks County Pennsylvania Phase I Inspection Report

Download or read book National Dam Inspection Program New Kernsville Dam NDS ID Number PA 00723 DER ID Number 6 434 Delaware River Basin Schuylkill River Berks County Pennsylvania Phase I Inspection Report written by John Boschuk (Jr) and published by . This book was released on 1979 with total page 78 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The New Kernsville Dam, owned by the State of Pennsylvania, was completed in November 1949. Visual inspection (20 April 79) of the exposed sections of the dam and review of the limited available data indicate that New Kernsville Dam is in good condition. Since the entire spillway and bucket were submerged and could not be inspected, a complete visual assessment of the structure could not be performed. The factors of safety for the ogee section appear to be reasonable. The dam is classified as a 'High' hazard potential structure consistent with its potential to cause extensive property damage and possible loss of life in the event of abrupt failure. Based on the findings presented in this report, it is recommended that the bucket area along the downstream toe of the spillway should be periodically inspected, especially after periods of high flows to check for scour or deterioration of the toe. Joint deterioration at monolithic sections and below the walkway and nonoverflow section should be periodically inspected. If deterioration of these zones becomes excessive, they should be cleaned and patched.

This book was released on 1980 with total page 80 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Kunkles Dam is a privately owned dam used for recreational purposes. The dam and spillway structures of Kunkles Dam are currently in poor condition. In accordance with criteria established by Federal (OCE) Guidelines, the recommended spillway design flood for this 'Small' size dam and 'Significant' hazard potential classification is the 100 Year Flood to one-half the Probable Maximum Flood (PMF). Based on the small capacity of the reservoir and the fact that no loss of life is likely during failure of the structure, the 100 Year Event has been selected as the spillway design flood. Hydrologic and hydraulic computations presented in Appendix D indicate that the spillway structure is not capable of discharging the 100 Year Event without overtopping the embankment by about 0.8 foot for about 3.5 hours. The structure is considered to have an 'Inadequate' spillway as it will not pass the spillway deisgn flood without overtopping the embankment. (Author).
