This book was released on 1978 with total page 85 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Bear Creek Dam is a hollow reinforced concrete structure of the 'Ambursen' type approximately 450 feet long and 64 feet high at its central portion. The dam is founded on a full concrete mat with an upstream concrete cutoff wall extending into natural rock. The dam was built in 1915. The dam is classified as an 'Intermediate' size dam by virtue of its 64-foot height. The dam is also considered a 'High' hazard structure because in the event of failure there is a possibility of loss of life and extreme property damage downstream.

Book National Dam Inspection Program Bear Creek Lake Dam NDI ID Number PA 00545 DER ID Number 40 47 Delaware River Basin Bear Creek Luzerne County Pennsylvania Phase I Inspection Report

Download or read book National Dam Inspection Program Bear Creek Lake Dam NDI ID Number PA 00545 DER ID Number 40 47 Delaware River Basin Bear Creek Luzerne County Pennsylvania Phase I Inspection Report written by O'BRIEN AND GERE ENGINEERS INC PHILADELPHIA PA JUSTIN AND COURTNEY DIV. and published by . This book was released on 1979 with total page 66 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Bear Creek Lake Dam is a rock filled timber crib structure approximately 325 feet long and 17 feet high at its maximum section. An ungated drop spillway with an 158-foot long sharp crested weir is located approximately 60 feet from the right abutment (looking downstream). The 80 acre lake is used for recreation by the residents of Bear Creek Village. It is unknown when the dam was constructed. In the state inspection report of April, 1915 it is stated, 'This dam was constructed a great many years ago, but it has been repaired from time to time, so that more than likely none of the original structure is now in existence.' Examination of the results of the hydrologic and hydraulic analysis indicate that the drop spillway is capable of passing 11 percent of the Probable Maximum Flood (PMF) without overtopping of the embankment. Failure of the dam would significantly increase the hazard to loss of life downstream of the dam. Therefore, the capacity of the drop spillway is classified as 'seriously inadequate.' The dam is considered to be 'unsafe (non-emergency).'

This book was released on 1979 with total page 69 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Bear Creek Lake Dam is a zoned earthfill dam having a clay core and upstream clay blanket at the base of the embankment. The embankment length is 500 feet and its height is 35 feet above the streambed. A concrete cutoff wall was installed over a distance of 200 feet along the centerline of the embankment, refer to Appendix F, Plate V. This wall extends from a minimum of three feet below the rock surface to five feet above the rock surface. The outer shell of the embankment consists of rolled select fill. A rock toe drain is provided at the downstream toe of the embankment. This drain is founded on a 12-inch thick gravel filter. The upstream embankment slope is riprapped to a vertical distance of 10 feet below the crest of the dam. The spillway is an uncontrolled concrete ogee section located at the left abutment of the embankment. The spillway outlet channel discharges directly to the natural stream.

Book National Dam Inspection Program Wild Creek Dam Carbon County Pennsylvania National I D Number PA 00609 Delaware River Basin Wild Creek Carbon County Pennsylvania Phase I Inspection Report

Download or read book National Dam Inspection Program Wild Creek Dam Carbon County Pennsylvania National I D Number PA 00609 Delaware River Basin Wild Creek Carbon County Pennsylvania Phase I Inspection Report written by John H Frederick (Jr) and published by . This book was released on 1978 with total page 68 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Wild Creek Dam is a zoned rolled earth and coarse fill embankment with riprap facing on the upstream side. The downstream side is a rolled coarse rock shell. It is approximately 1076 feet long and 135 feet high. This dam was designed to pass the probable maximum flood. However, it is the second in a series of two dams on Wild Creek above Beltzville Reservoir. A sudden breach of the upper, Penn Forest, dam would probably result in overtopping failure of Wild Creek Dam. The Corps of Engineers' Beltzville Dam, immediately downstream from Wild Creek, is reportedly designed to withstand this event. Since Wild Creek Dam has been designed to pass the PMF, the spillway is considered to be 'Adequate'. Wild Creek Dam appears to be in excellent condition. No visible signs of uncontrolled leakage, sloughing, or significant displacement were discovered other than along the spillway retaining walls where some cracking was observed. It was noted that this zoned embankment dam was designed without protective filters between the impervious core and coarser outer shell. However, no indications of internal erosion have manifested themselves in over 40 years of service.

This book was released on 1978 with total page 82 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fawn Lake Dam is owned by the Lake Wynonah Property Owners Association and is located in South Mannheim Township in Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania. The dam was designed by the original owner, American Realty Service Corporation of Memphis, Tennessee. The embankment was completed on May 12, 1971, and has been in service ever since. The facility is judged to be in reasonably good operating condition. Calculations indicate that the spillway systems are capable of passing the probable maximum flood (PMF). Therefore, the spillway is considered to be 'Adequate'. Seepage was noted emanating from the downstream slope and along the toe of the dam, but there were no indications at this time that this condition is potentially hazardous. No indications of slope distortion, embankment slides or other condition indicative of a potentially unstable embankment were noted.

Book National Dam Inspection Program Upper Owl Creek Dam NDS PA 00673 DER 54 96 Delaware River Basin Schuylkill County Pennsylvania Phase I Inspection Report

Download or read book National Dam Inspection Program Upper Owl Creek Dam NDS PA 00673 DER 54 96 Delaware River Basin Schuylkill County Pennsylvania Phase I Inspection Report written by BERGER ASSOCIATES INC HARRISBURG PA. and published by . This book was released on 1979 with total page 75 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Upper Owl Creek Dam is an earthfill embankment with a concrete core wall located on the centerline of the dam. The 9-inch thick concrete core wall is founded on rock over most of its length. The left end of this wall is founded on sandy clay. The embankment has a length of approximately 1300 feet with a maximum fill height of 38 feet. The spillway is located in the right abutment and has a crest length of 50 feet at approximately 4 feet below the top of dam. Based on the visual inspection, past performance and the available engineering data, the dam and its appurtenant structures appear to be in fair condition. In accordance with the Corps of Engineers' evaluation guidelines, the spillway capacity is inadequate to pass the PMF (Probable Maximum Flood) peak inflow without overtopping the dam. The project is capable of passing 45 percent of the PMF without overtopping.

Book National Dam Inspection Program Birdsboro Reservoir PA 00713 Schuylkill River Basin Indian Run Creek Berks County Pennsylvania Phase I Inspection Report

This book was released on 1978 with total page 75 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Birdsboro Dam is an approximately 40-foot high rolled earth embankment constructed across Indian Run Creek. The 430-foot long dam impounds an 8-acre reservoir. Very limited data exists regarding physical features of the dam. However, it is known that local borrow material from within the reservoir area was used for the construction. The downstream slope is a 1.5H:IV slope, and the upstream slope is covered with hand-placed riprap on a slope of approximately 2.5H:IV. It is not known if there is a cutoff wall, nor is it known if a grout curtain was installed.
