Get ready to get unladylike with this field guide to the what's, why's, and how's of intersectional feminism and practical hell-raising. Through essential, inclusive, and illustrated explorations of what patriarchy looks like in the real world, authors and podcast hosts Cristen Conger and Caroline Ervin blend wild histories, astounding stats, social justice principles, and self-help advice to connect where the personal meets political in our bodies, brains, booty calls, bank accounts, and other confounding facets of modern woman-ing and nonbinary-ing. By laying out the uneven terrain of double-standards, head games, and handouts patriarchy has manspread across society for ages, Unladylike is here to unpack our gender baggage and map out the space that's ours to claim.

Book excerpt: The most user-friendly book on Internet library research to date, Reference Sources on the Internet: Off the Shelf and Onto the Web gives you a core list of online resources that will save those who visit your library considerable time. Its menu of current reference sites will help you wade through the mire of irrelevant, unreliable material and zero in on the cyberinfo that will more economically and accurately satisfy your users’needs. While online research has by no means replaced in-house paper materials, Resources on the Internet makes it clear that you can?t ignore the timely information that hovers only in cyberspace, outside the traditional library?s four walls. In this book, you?ll learn which search tools are out there, how to determine source reliability, and how to quickly frame a reference need in light of the existing collection of Internet resources. Here?s a quick search list of what you?ll find: a comparative study of existing search engines pinpointing career, government, patent, and geographical information sites covering education, psychology, finance, social science, and private business international trade sites accessing information on gender and cultural issues the performing arts, architecture, world history, languages, and literature sports and entertainment sources life, biological, and earth science sites In an era of library research where surfing the Internet for germane data too often means plowing through the home pages of Vanna White and Pennzoil, Resources on the Internet will teach you the idiosyncracies of the existing search engines while schooling you in how to weed out the propaganda. You?ll save yourself and your researchers time, and you?ll find yourself surfing from the stillwaters of research stagnance to the pipeline of library productivity.

Book The Pro Life Pregnancy Help Movement

Download or read book The Pro Life Pregnancy Help Movement written by Laura S. Hussey and published by University Press of Kansas. This book was released on 2020-02-03 with total page 328 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There is more to the pro-life movement than campaigning against abortion. That, at least, is the logic behind a large and growing network of pro-life pregnancy centers offering “help” to pregnant women. As these centers face increasing scrutiny, this book offers the first social-scientific study of the pro-life pregnancy help movement. The work being performed at pro-life pregnancy centers, maternity homes, and other charitable agencies is, Laura S. Hussey suggests, distinguished by several strategic features: it is directed at non-state targets, operates in largely privatized venues, employs service provision as its primary tactic, and aims to address causes popularly associated with its countermovement such as women’s (including poor women’s) wellbeing and empowerment. The motives and nature of the services such pregnancy centers deliver have become the subjects of competing political narratives—but, until now, very little empirical research. A rich, mixed-method study including data from two original national surveys and extensive interviews, Hussey’s book adjudicates these opposing views even as it provides a measured look at the identity, work, history, and impact of pro-life pregnancy centers and related service providers, as well as their relations with the larger American antiabortion movement. To what extent is pro-life pregnancy help work primarily geared to serving women versus “saving babies?” Pursued in these pages, the answer has broad implications for the wider study of social action and the pro-life movement, and for the future of the American abortion conflict.

Book Abortion Practice

Download or read book Abortion Practice written by Warren M. Hern and published by Lippincott Williams & Wilkins. This book was released on 1984 with total page 388 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Abortion Practice is the only single-author medical textbook concerning abortion. It begins with a comprehensive view in its first chapter of The Epidemiologic Foundations of Abortion Practice. This chapter is a unique in the medical literature in presenting a public health view of pregnancy and abortion. Pregnancy is seen as a biocultural adaptation to the survival needs of the human species, and the management of pregnancy as a biocultural phenomenon that is determined by human culture. In many cultures, pregnancy is defined as a life-threatening illness, but in western culture, pregnancy is defined as normal. This reflects the role of women in western society and it affects the kinds of medical and surgical management of pregnancy that are available. Abortion alters the mortality statistics - the risk of death - for women who are pregnant. The remainder of the book provides a framework for modern abortion practice including evaluation of the patient, operative procedures and techniques, postoperative procedures, management of complications, diagnostic evaluation of pregnancy duration and fetal age, long-term risks of abortion, and program evaluation.
