Book Successful Public Policy

Download or read book Successful Public Policy written by Joannah Luetjens and published by ANU Press. This book was released on 2019-04-30 with total page 551 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Australia and New Zealand, many public projects, programs and services perform well. But these cases are consistently underexposed and understudied. We cannot properly ‘see’—let alone recognise and explain—variations in government performance when media, political and academic discourses are saturated with accounts of their shortcomings and failures, but are next to silent on their achievements. Successful Public Policy: Lessons from Australia and New Zealand helps to turn that tide. It aims to reset the agenda for teaching, research and dialogue on public policy performance. This is done through a series of close-up, in-depth and carefully chosen case study accounts of the genesis and evolution of stand-out public policy achievements, across a range of sectors within Australia and New Zealand. Through these accounts, written by experts from both countries, we engage with the conceptual, methodological and theoretical challenges that have plagued extant research seeking to evaluate, explain and design successful public policy. Studies of public policy successes are rare—not just in Australia and New Zealand, but the world over. This book is embedded in a broader project exploring policy successes globally; its companion volume, Great Policy Successes (edited by Paul ‘t Hart and Mallory Compton), is published by Oxford University Press (2019).

Book Review of National Competition Policy Reforms

Download or read book Review of National Competition Policy Reforms written by and published by . This book was released on 2004 with total page 353 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The National Competition Policy (NCP) has been a landmark achievement in economic reform. It has yielded benefits across the community. However, it has also involved some costs and the implementation process has not been without defects. Moreover, most of the reforms initially agreed to are now in place, raising the question of what should happen next. The Commission has been asked by the Australian Government to conduct this inquiry into the impacts of NCP to date, and report on future areas 'offering opportunities for significant gains to the Australian economy from removing impediments to efficiency and enhancing competition'. The Commission's report is intended to help inform CoAG's own review of NCP and possible future reforms, which is currently due to be completed by September 2005." -- from the Overview. p. xiii.

Download or read book Dealing with Dominance written by Nauta Dutilh (Firm) and published by Kluwer Law International B.V.. This book was released on 2004-01-01 with total page 342 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A prohibition of the abuse of dominance is an essential provision in any country's competition law. The purpose of such a prohibition is to protect competition where it is potentially weakened by the presence of dominant market players. If applied immoderately, however, this prohibition is liable to seriously harm competition rather than protect it. In this useful compilation, local practitioners and academics in twelve countries provide a detailed summary and analysis of the application of their countries' law in this area, drawing on the experience of national competition authorities in dealing with market dominance as well as a wide range of legislation, administrative regulations, and case law. Nine EU member states are covered, as are Australia, New Zealand, and the United States. Although contributors were specifically asked not to compare their national provisions with Article 82 EC, the book nevertheless provides useful insight on that article, as well. National "borderline cases", of the kind described here, help to clarify the application of Article 82 EC, especially considering that the case law on this provision is often controversial. Dealing with Dominance is a useful reference tool for the application of the national counterparts to Article 82 EC in Europe and beyond and answers a basic practical need of both national and international competition law practitioners. This book can also be seen as an especially important contribution to the comparative analysis of an increasingly crucial area of economic law.

Book Review of National Competition Policy Reforms

Download or read book Review of National Competition Policy Reforms written by and published by . This book was released on 2005 with total page 449 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The National Competition Policy (NCP) has been a landmark achievement in nationally coordinated economic reform. It has yielded benefits across the community, though there have been some costs and the implementation process has not been without defects. Most of the reforms initially agreed to are now in place, and will provide ongoing gains. But population ageing and other challenges mean that if Australians are to enjoy higher living standards in the future, further reform is required. The Commission was asked by the Australian Government to conduct this inquiry into the impacts of the NCP to date, and report on future areas 'offering opportunities for significant gains to the Australian economy from removing impediments to efficiency and enhancing competition'. The Commission's report is intended to help inform the Council of Australian Government's (CoAG) own review of NCP and possible future reforms, which is currently due to be completed by September 2005." -- from the Overview, p. xiii.
