Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book describes the future of the Artemis Lunar Program from the years 2017 to about 2030. Despite the uncertainty of the times and the present state of space exploration, it is likely that what is presented in this book will actually happen, to one degree or another. As history has taught us, predictions are often difficult, but one can see enough into the future to be somewhat accurate. As the Bible says, “Wesee thru the glass, but darkly.” All of the elements of the proposed program are described from several perspectives: NASA’s, the commercial space industry and our International partners. Also included are descriptions of the many vehicles, habitats, landers, payloads and experiments. The book tells the story of the buildup of a very small space station in a strange new lunar orbit and the descent of payloads and humans, including the first women and next man, to the lunar surface with the intent to evolve a sustained presence over time.

Book Human Spaceflight and Exploration

Download or read book Human Spaceflight and Exploration written by Carol Norberg and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-18 with total page 357 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book presents a unique overview of activities in human spaceflight and exploration and a discussion of future development possibilities. It provides an introduction for the general public interested in space and would also be suitable for students at university. The book includes the basics of the space environment and the effects of space travel on the human body. It leads through the challenges of designing life support systems for spacecraft as wells as space suits to protect astronauts during extravehicular activities. Research being carried out by humans in Earth orbit is being brought into context to other forms of space exploration. Between the end of 2007 and May 2009 ESA, the European Space Agency, carried out an astronaut recruitment process. It was the first time that astronauts had been recruited newly to the corps since its creation in 1998 and the positions were open to citizens of all of the member states of ESA. Two of the contributors to this book participated in the selection process and hence contribute to a general discussion of how one carries out such a selection programme. The book concludes with one person’s experience of flying aboard the space shuttle on a mission to map planet Earth, bringing together topics taken up in earlier parts of the book.

NASA has emphasized numerous times that Artemis 1 is fundamentally a test flight. It is both the first deep-space voyage for the new Orion spacecraft and the maiden flight of the agency's new megarocket, the towering Space Launch System (SLS). During the launch countdown, there can be technical issues that demand a delay.Jim Free, NASA's assistant administrator for exploration systems development, stated at a news conference on August 22 that "the test fight itself bears inherent danger." This is a new rocket's and spacecraft's inaugural flight. Find Out In This Book The Artemis 1 Mission Interesting & Unknown Facts About NASA James Webb Telescope Discoveries. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: After failing to contain a fuel leak found during tanking, NASA aborted Saturday's attempt to launch the ground-breaking Artemis 1 moon rocket. The spacecraft had been detained on the launchpad due to technical difficulties twice in the previous five days. Launch controllers were forced to abandon their second attempt to launch a crew capsule into lunar orbit with test dummies on Saturday after NASA's new moon rocket suffered another hazardous fuel leak. The first attempt earlier in the week was also hampered by hydrogen leaks, although they were on different parts of the 322-foot (98-meter), the most powerful rocket NASA has ever produced. When NASA may attempt again was not immediately known. A two-week launch blackout period begins on Tuesday. The rocket may need to be pulled off the launch pad and back into its hangar for extensive fuel leak repairs, which might delay the mission until October. This book delves deeply into complete information about Artemis 1 The Artemis 1 Mission What will the NASA lunar mission launch into orbit? The cause of NASA's failure to launch the Artemis rocket on time This book provides the latest current information on the Artemis 1 moon rocket, allowing readers to understand why NASA was obliged to cancel the launch of its moon rocket on Monday because engineers were unable to resolve a serious problem with one of its engines. This book goes into great detail on the Artemis 1, including its background, motivations for going to the moon, and potential obstacles to the lunar rocket's flight. Every phase of NASA development with Artemis 1 is completely explained. Anyone who wishes to remain current on the most recent Space launches is advised to read this book. Book The Impact of Lunar Dust on Human Exploration

Download or read book The Impact of Lunar Dust on Human Exploration written by Joel S. Levine and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2021-01-12 with total page 303 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When the Apollo 11 astronauts landed on the Moon on July 20, 1969, they made a very important discovery. During their landing on the surface of the Moon, the exhaust gases released from the Lunar Module landing rockets caused large amounts of surface dust to move into the thin lunar atmosphere, causing obscuration of the lunar surface. Once they landed, they found that the surface of the Moon was covered with several inches of very fine, tiny particles composed of sharp, glassy material. The lunar dust stuck to everything it came in contact with, and, once on the lunar surface, the dust eroded their spacesuits, caused overheating on equipment and instrumentation, compromised seals on their spacesuits and on lunar sample collecting boxes, irritated their eyes and lungs, and generally coated everything very efficiently. On the return to Earth in the Apollo Command Module, lunar dust inadvertently brought aboard floated freely in their cabin causing problems. Now, 50 years later, humans will return to the Moon in the Artemis Program, as early as 2024. This book summarizes what we know about lunar dust, its structure and chemical composition, its impact on human health, and how to reduce/mitigate its effects on future human exploration. The four dozen contributors to the 14 chapters in the book are planetary scientists, engineers, mission planners, medical researchers and physicians from NASA and the European Space Agency (ESA), as well as universities and industry from the United States, Australia, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Portugal and Sweden.
