Book NASA TLA Workload Analysis Support Volume 1 Detailed Task Scenarios for General Aviation and Metering and Spacing Studies

Download or read book NASA TLA Workload Analysis Support Volume 1 Detailed Task Scenarios for General Aviation and Metering and Spacing Studies written by James L. Sundstrom and published by . This book was released on 1980 with total page 44 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The techniques required to produce and validate six detailed task timeline scenarios for crew workload studies are described. Specific emphasis is given to: general aviation single pilot instrument flight rules operations in a high density traffic area; fixed path metering and spacing operations; and comparative workload operation between the forward and aft-flight decks of the NASA terminal control vehicle. The validation efforts also provide a cursory examination of the resultant demand workload based on the operating procedures depicted in the detailed task scenarios.

Book Flight Research at NASA Langley Research Center

Download or read book Flight Research at NASA Langley Research Center written by Mark A. Chambers and published by Arcadia Publishing. This book was released on 2007 with total page 132 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Following the creation of the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics in 1915, a unique flight research operations division was established at the nation's first civilian aeronautics research laboratory, the Langley Memorial Aeronautical Laboratory. Langley flight research personnel helped the nation's aircraft industry bloom during the Golden Era of aviation throughout the 1920s and 1930s. Langley's flight research then helped win World War II with performance-enhancing modifications to new aircraft. During the cold war, Langley helped the country maintain an edge in aeronautics over its Warsaw Pact rivals. When the space race began, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) was created in 1958 and Langley's pilots were instrumental in training astronauts. In addition to advancing rotorcraft during the 1960s and 1970s, Langley research pioneered a multitude of military and civil Vertical Short Takeoff and Landing (V/STOL) concepts. During the 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s, Langley research developed advancements in general and commercial aviation technologies.

Book Probing the Sky

Download or read book Probing the Sky written by Curtis Peebles and published by . This book was released on 2014-12-10 with total page 334 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With the development of supersonic aircraft, the X-plane era ushered in a new and challenging phase of flight. Researchers found that much of the knowledge accumulated from the previous, subsonic flight era did not apply to the emerging supersonic aircraft. These turbojet-powered planes also outpaced the usefulness of the wind tunnel, previously an indispensible tool of aeronautic research. This book explores the development of the X-series research aircraft, the planes that helped bridge the gap between subsonic flight and hypersonic flight.

Book Summary of Spin Technology as Related to Light General aviation Airplanes

Download or read book Summary of Spin Technology as Related to Light General aviation Airplanes written by James S. Bowman and published by . This book was released on 1971 with total page 44 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A summary was made of all NASA (and NACA) research and experience related to the spin and recovery characteristics of light personal-owner-type general-aviation airplanes. Very little of the research deals with light general-aviation airplanes as such, but many of the airplanes and models tested before and during World War II were similar to present-day light general-aviation airplanes with regard to the factors that are important in spinning. The material is based mainly on the results of spin-tunnel tests of free-spinning dynamically scaled models of about 100 different airplane designs and, whenever possible, includes correlation with full-scale spin tests. The research results are discussed in terms of airplane design considerations and the proper use of controls for recovery.
