Book Modeling and Numerical Simulation of Materials Behavior and Evolution Volume 731

Download or read book Modeling and Numerical Simulation of Materials Behavior and Evolution Volume 731 written by Antonios Zavaliangos and published by . This book was released on 2002-08-09 with total page 344 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In recent years, numerical simulation and modeling of materials coupling multiple-length scales has received much attention. While challenges remain, significant advances have been made. An equally important area of materials modeling, one that has received much less attention, is the integration of multiple physical phenomena for simulation of complex materials behavior. This volume offers a review of current capabilities in materials modeling and simulation that (1) bridge length scales and time scales and (2) couple a variety of physical phenomena to either provide insight into fundamental aspects of materials structure or predict materials behavior. By bringing together the materials modeling community from around the world, the volume provides a current snapshot of the field. Topics include: multiscale modeling; mechanical properties; transport phenomena; phase transformations; microstructure and its evolution; atomistic modeling; and materials structure and properties.

Book Thermoelectric Materials 2001 Research and Applications Volume 691

Download or read book Thermoelectric Materials 2001 Research and Applications Volume 691 written by Materials Research Society. Meeting and published by . This book was released on 2002-05 with total page 496 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a benchmark for the state of the field of thermoelectric materials research and development. Highlights of the volume include results on superlattices that show a ZT = 2.4 at room temperature in p-type Bi2Te3/Sb2Te3 superlattice thermoelectrics. In addition, preliminary results on p-n couple devices from these superlattices indicate fast-acting spot cooling in addition to improved performance. Thermoelectric materials are utilized in a wide variety of applications related to solid-state refrigeration or small-scale power generation. The book focuses on traditional thermoelectric materials new materials as well as developments in device engineering. Many papers presented here revolve around either maximizing the numerator of Z, called the power factor, or by minimizing l. Topics include: guidance to advanced thermoelectric research; skutterudites; new materials, approaches and measurements; clathrates; chalcogenides; devices; thermoelectric materials and devices - research and development; nanowires and oxides.

Book Materials for High Temperature Superconductor Technologies Volume 689

Download or read book Materials for High Temperature Superconductor Technologies Volume 689 written by M. P. Paranthaman and published by . This book was released on 2002-04 with total page 416 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Major advances in the years leading up to publication of this 2002 book in high-temperature superconductor (HTS) research resulted in the increased use of HTS materials in commercial and precommercial applications. These materials have in common the complexity of their multicomponent chemistry. Consequently, it is not surprising that many aspects of the interplay among microscopic structure, macroscopic properties and processing are still not fully understood. This book offers a comprehensive status review of high-temperature superconductors from the near-term commercialization of the first-generation BSCCO tapes, to the continuing advancement of the second-generation YBCO-coated conductors, to the development of the new MgB2 material. Fundamental material properties studies, new growth methods, device and materials integration research, and developments in designing and growing new materials, all involving epitaxial superconducting thin films, are featured.

Book Defect and Impurity Engineered Semiconductors and Devices III Volume 719

Download or read book Defect and Impurity Engineered Semiconductors and Devices III Volume 719 written by S. Ashok and published by . This book was released on 2002-08-09 with total page 522 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book focuses on the deliberate introduction and manipulation of defects and impurities in order to engineer desired properties in semiconductor materials and devices. In view of current exciting developments in wide-bandgap semiconductors like GaN for blue light emission, as well as high-speed and high-temperature electronics, dopant and defect issues relevant to these materials are addressed. Also featured are semiconductor nanocavities and nano-structures, with emphasis on the formation and impact of vacancy-type defects. Defect reaction problems pertaining to impurity gettering, precipitation and hydrogen passivation are specific examples of defect engineering that improve the electronic quality of the material. A number of papers also deal with characterization techniques needed to study and to identify defects in materials and device structures. Finally, papers also address issues such as interface control and passivation, application of ion implantation, plasma treatment and rapid thermal processing for creating/activating/suppressing trap levels, and device applications.
