Book Nanocrystalline Titanium

Download or read book Nanocrystalline Titanium written by Halina Garbacz and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2018-09-17 with total page 280 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nanocrystalline Titanium discusses the features of nanocrystalline titanium production by various SPD methods, also comparing their microstructure and properties. The authors characterize the physical, chemical and mechanical properties of ultrafine grained titanium, indicating which are crucial for their application. Titanium alloys are characterized by high specific strength combined with excellent corrosion resistance, whereas the mechanical properties of pure (or commercial purity - CP) titanium are much lower. SPD methods are proving to be an effective way to increase strength, even to a level typical for structural titanium alloys. This book is useful for academics and professionals studying the behavior of metallic materials. - Discusses various SPD techniques and their applications for titanium - Previews the limitations of SPD methods for titanium, along with the problems that can be encountered during production - Characterizes the physical, chemical and mechanical properties of ultrafine grained titanium and indicates which are crucial for its production applications

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the monograph, the first of this type in the world, the authors discuss systematically the current state of investigations into nanocrystalline materials. The experimental results on the effect of the nanocrystalline state on the microstructure and the mechanical, thermophysical, optical, and magnetic properties of metals, alloys and solid-phase compounds are generalised. Special attention is given to the main methods of production of isolated nanoparticles, ultrafine powders and dense nanocrystalline materials. The dimensional effects in isolated nanoparticles and high-density nanocrystalline materials are discussed in detail, and the important role of the interface in the formation of the structure and properties of dense nanocrystalline materials is shown. The modelling considerations, explaining special features of the structure and anomalous properties of substances in the nanocrystalline condition, are analysed.

As such, the contents are inherently application-oriented, with the methods presented able to be easily integrated into existing production processes. In addition, the structure-property relationships and ways of influencing the nanostructure in order to exhibit a desired functionality are reviewed in detail. The whole is rounded off by a look at future directions, followed by an overview of applications in various fields of structural and mechanical engineering. With its solutions for successful processing of complex-shaped workpieces and large-scale specimens with desired properties, this is an indispensable tool for purposeful materials design.

Book Nanostructured Materials by High Pressure Severe Plastic Deformation

Download or read book Nanostructured Materials by High Pressure Severe Plastic Deformation written by Yuntian T. Zhu and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2006 with total page 332 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Recently, it was reported that nanostructured materials processed under high pressure by HPT and ECAP have an extraordinary combination of both high strength and high ductility, which are two desirable, but rarely co-existing properties. These findings indicate that high-pressure is a critical factor that can be employed to process nanostructured materials with superior mechanical, and possibly also physical, properties. It is the objective of this workshop to review our current knowledge, identify issues for future research, and discuss future directions on the processing and properties of nanostructured materials via SPD techniques, with a special emphasis on high-pressure effects. The 42 peer-reviewed papers in this book cover areas of high pressure effect on the nanostructure and properties of SPD-processed materials, fundamentals of nanostructured materials, development of high-pressure SPD technologies for commercializations, recent advances of SPD technologies as well as applications and future markets of SPD-processed nanostructured materials.
