Download or read book Nana s Summer Surprise written by Heather Hartt-Sussman and published by Tundra Books. This book was released on 2013-04-09 with total page 36 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this third book of related titles, our protagonist must face one more hurdle in accepting his Nana's new "family." Nana's new husband Bob has a grandaughter named Hortense. They were friends last summer - but over the winter she's changed and the tentative friendship they shared seems a thing of the past. At the cottage again for a summer holiday, the protagonist is horrified to discover that Hortense is no longer likely to enjoy climbling trees and running around. She's grown tall, wears skirts, and pins pictures of rock stars on her wall. Nana has deemed it "inappropriate" for them to share a room. All seems lost, until the two manage to find something to work towards together: a surprise birthday party for Nana. This charming picture book holds a valuable lesson about getting along by finding common ground.

Complemented by the playful, quirky, chalk-pastel art of Georgia Graham, Nana’s Getting Married will ring a familiar bell with every child who has had to share the attention of a beloved adult. What’s more, it demonstrates hilariously that love has nothing to do with age.

Book Helping Those Experiencing Loss

Download or read book Helping Those Experiencing Loss written by Robert J. Grover Professor Emeritus and published by Bloomsbury Publishing USA. This book was released on 2011-07-13 with total page 248 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a guide for grieving youth and adults as well as extensive descriptive lists of recommended professional literature resources. Grief caused by loss is both a very common human experience and a highly individualized one. For example, children experience a number of losses that are unique to their young age—such as sibling and parent death, adoption, or divorce—and should be given special consideration by professionals and parents helping them in these situations. For gay, lesbian, or cohabiting heterosexual couples that suffer the loss of a partner, societal standards often deny the survivors in these relationships the right to grieve. Helping Those Experiencing Loss: A Guide to Grieving Resources is a book like no other, supplying compassionate information for navigating the emotional distress that every man and woman will experience in their lifetime, as well as a comprehensive guide to the literature of bereavement and grieving. It explains the grieving process, interpreting the results of research on the topic in plain language and addressing specific groups: children, young adults, parents who have lost a child, adults who have lost spouses, and the aging population.

Download or read book The Summer Place written by Jennifer Weiner and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2023-04-04 with total page 448 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From the #1 New York Times bestselling author of That Summer comes another “fun, feisty” (The Washington Post) novel of family, secrets, and the ties that bind. When her twenty-two-year-old stepdaughter announces her engagement to her pandemic boyfriend, Sarah Danhauser is shocked. But the wheels are in motion. Headstrong Ruby has already set a date (just three months away!) and spoken to her beloved safta, Sarah’s mother Veronica, about having the wedding at the family’s beach house in Cape Cod. Sarah might be worried, but Veronica is thrilled to be bringing the family together one last time before putting the big house on the market. But the road to a wedding day usually comes with a few bumps. Ruby has always known exactly what she wants, but as the wedding date approaches, she finds herself grappling with the wounds left by the mother who walked out when she was a baby. Veronica ends up facing unexpected news, thanks to her meddling sister, and must revisit the choices she made long ago, when she was a bestselling novelist with a different life. Sarah’s twin brother, Sam, is recovering from a terrible loss, and confronting big questions about who he is—questions he hopes to resolve during his stay on the Cape. Sarah’s husband, Eli, who’s been inexplicably distant during the pandemic, confronts the consequences of a long ago lapse from his typical good-guy behavior. And Sarah, frustrated by her husband, concerned about her stepdaughter, and worn out by the challenges of the quarantine, faces the alluring reappearance of someone from her past and a life that could have been. When the wedding day arrives, lovers are revealed as their true selves, misunderstandings take on a life of their own, and secrets come to light. There are confrontations and revelations that will touch each member of the extended family, ensuring that nothing will ever be the same. From “the undisputed boss of the beach read” (The New York Times), The Summer Place is a testament to family in all its messy glory; a story about what we sacrifice and how we forgive. Enthralling, witty, big-hearted, and sharply observed, “this first-rate page-turner” (Publishers Weekly) is Jennifer Weiner’s love letter to the Outer Cape and the power of home, the way our lives are enriched by the people we call family, and the endless ways love can surprise us.

Book I Don t Have a Happy Place

Download or read book I Don t Have a Happy Place written by Kim Korson and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2015-04-14 with total page 286 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Can't Kim be happy?" This is the question asked of Kim Korson--a female Woody Allen--at her first (and last) shrink appointment, and her chief dilemma in this fresh-voiced, hilarious take on what it means to be a malcontent. "Go find your happy place!" Kim Korson's befuddled husband exclaims one day, as his disgruntled wife is listing about the house (as malcontents are wont to do.) It sounds simple enough--only Kim can't. Because she doesn't have one. I Don't Have a Happy Place is an exploration of Kim's oftentimes irrational, at times self-induced, and nearly perpetual state of unhappiness, told through a series of humorous, autobiographical essays.

Book The Heart Has Its Reasons

Download or read book The Heart Has Its Reasons written by Michael Cart and published by Scarecrow Press. This book was released on 2006-03-30 with total page 230 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Society does not make it easy for young people, regardless of their sexual orientation, to find accurate, nonjudgmental information about homosexuality. It makes it even more difficult for young homosexuals to find positive role models in fiction either written or published expressly for them or—if published for adults—relevant to them and their lives. The Heart Has Its Reasons examines these issues and critically evaluates the body of literature published for young adults that offers homosexual themes and characters. Cart and Jenkins chart the evolution of the field of YA literature having GLBTQ (gay/lesbian/bisexual, transgendered, and/or queer/questioning) content. They identify titles that are remarkable either for their excellence or failures, noting the stereotypic, wrongheaded, and outdated books as well as the accurate, thoughtful, and tactful titles. Useful criteria for evaluating books with GLBTQ content are provided. Books and resources of all types are reviewed based on a model that uses the category descriptors of Homosexual Visibility, Gay Assimilation, and Queer Consciousness/Community. An annotated bibliography and a number of author-title lists of books discussed in the text arranged by subject round out this valuable reference for teachers, librarians, parents, and young adults.

AD 2384. It had to be night time; otherwise I'd get a bad dose of sunburn and it’s not every night you see a skimpily-dressed, curvy blonde with a white stick tapping her way along a dimly-lit city street with her hand outstretched in angst and desperation. I laugh when I think about the excuse the guy will give his wife when he gets home minus his wallet, watch and any rings he was wearing, looking pale and tired with a whopping great love-bite and two punctures on his neck after having trying to have his way with me down a dark entry. They say being blind has its disadvantages. Maybe, but not if you’re a vampire, a female one that is....

She grew up feeling that she was unwanted by everyone. Her father and step mother struggled with addiction; her biological mother may have struggled with the same types of issues. She had to live with the guilt of fatal choices she made in her young life which carried through to her adulthood. Danielle struggled with addiction and criminal activity throughout her own life. She spent a large portion of her life in battling the judicial system. She endured physical abuse as a child and as an adult. Death seemed to frequent her life and all those she thought loved and care about her seem to pass away. Her life events seem to finally open her eyes to making a change in her life. When Danielle lost her father she wanted to get high for the first time since her release from prison. She didn't know what to do with her emotions. She sat in the cold hospital emergency room and thought about her life and what using drugs again would mean for her.
