Book Airport Competition

Download or read book Airport Competition written by Peter Forsyth and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-03-23 with total page 586 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The break-up of BAA and the blocked takeover of Bratislava airport by the competing Vienna airport have brought the issue of airport competition to the top of the agenda for air transport policy in Europe. Airport Competition reviews the current state of the debate and asks whether airport competition is strong enough to effectively limit market power. It provides evidence on how travellers chose an airport, thereby altering its competitive position, and on how airports compete in different regions and markets. The book also discusses the main policy implications of mergers and subsidies.

Book Ageing in urban neighbourhoods

Download or read book Ageing in urban neighbourhoods written by Smith, Allison E. and published by Policy Press. This book was released on 2009-09-02 with total page 249 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many western nations have experienced a rise in the number of marginalised and deprived inner-city neighbourhoods. Despite a plethora of research focused on these areas, there remain few studies that have sought to capture the 'optimality' of ageing in place in such places. In particular, little is known about why some older people desire to age in place despite multiple risks in their neighbourhood and why others reject ageing in place. Given the growth in both the ageing of the population and policy interest in the cohesion and sustainability of neighbourhoods there is an urgent need to better understand the experience of ageing in marginalised locations. This book aims to address the shortfall in knowledge regarding older people's attachment to deprived neighbourhoods and in so doing progress what critics have referred to as the languishing state of environmental gerontology. The author examines new cross-national research with older people in deprived urban neighbourhoods and suggests a rethinking and refocusing of the older person's relationship with place. Impact on policy and future research are also discussed. This book will be relevant to academics, students, architects, city planners and policy makers with an interest in environmental gerontology, social exclusion, urban sustainability and design of the built environment.

Book A Source Book of Royal Commissions and Other Major Governmental Inquiries in Canadian Education 1787 1978

Download or read book A Source Book of Royal Commissions and Other Major Governmental Inquiries in Canadian Education 1787 1978 written by Cary F. Goulson and published by University of Toronto Press. This book was released on 1981-12-15 with total page 313 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a comprehensive primary reference to a rich and often neglected storehouse of information on Canada's educational background. As the boundary between full-fledged royal commissions and other official governmental inquiries is not always clear -- and many legislative committee inquiries and special department of education investigations have been as significant in educational development as regular commissions -- Goulson has included all major ministerial-level governmental inquiries in Canadian education between 1787 and 1978. More than 300 inquiries are included, among them general, special interest, judicial, legislative, parliamentary, and other governmental committees. The information provided for each includes the type of commission or committee, its size, chairman, purpose, dates of appointment and reporting, and primary source references, as well as a selection of its major conclusions and/or recommendations. Official governmental records and documents including the Reports themselves, Legislative Journals, House Debates and Hansard, Sessional Papers, Statutes, and Department of Education records were used as the resource base. This volume will be of specific interest to teachers and students of the history of education, and most educators, no matter what their fields, will find it useful.

  • Author : Jim Good
  • Publisher : Abbott Press
  • Release : 2012-04-02
  • ISBN : 1458202526
  • Pages : 216 pages

Download or read book Borrowed Bibles written by Jim Good and published by Abbott Press. This book was released on 2012-04-02 with total page 216 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It was during the 1940s in Arkansas when the very young Jim Good first learned from his fathers sermons that drinking Coke was a sin, but drinking Royal Crown was not. He also learned not to lie, to keep the Commandments, to love Jesus, and that God wanted segregation. By the age of twenty, he had moved thirty-one times and attended thirteen schools. In his compelling memoir, Good shares the heartfelt story of what it was like to grow up with a nomadic teacher father who borrowed Bibles and hymnbooks from churches so he could conduct services on the front porch. With the goal of seeking income and respect, Goods father moved the family more than once a yearfrom segregated Arkansas to integrated Washington and Oregon and back to segregated Arkansas, filling his sons life with continuous culture shock. As he embarked on the challenging path to adulthood, Good began to question everything about God, soon realizing that the only way to find the truth was to become a preacher himself. Borrowed Bibles is an engaging chronicle of one mans fascinating, faith-filled journey as he learns to accept life as an unsolvable mystery and discover his true purpose.
