Book excerpt: In Holly James's newest rom-com, sparks ignite as a pair of broke exes get locked in a house together on a reality show for a chance to win a million dollars, a second-chance romance that perfectly captures the absurd sincerity of made-for-TV love. Olivia Martin and Chuck Walsh have chemistry. Too much chemistry, perhaps. Their every interaction as a couple either lights the house up with sexual tension or burns it down with anger. After one huge, very public fight, they finally break up for good. Or so they think. Someone was filming their dramatic argument in the street and—because Olivia’s parents were Hollywood royalty, and because Chuck’s an actor whose star is on the rise—the video goes viral. When Name Your Price, a reality game show, sees the footage, they invite Olivia and Chuck to shoot a very unusual challenge: Live locked in a house together for one month and they will be paid a million dollars. Each. Olivia really needs the money if she's going to keep her beloved grandmother in her nursing home, and Chuck is desperate for any chance to win Olivia back. So the game is on—even as the show tries to pluck every nerve with only one bed, one bathroom, and a set of rules that will lose them money if broken—including no touching. With stakes that have never been higher and their explosive chemistry at a fever pitch, can Chuck and Olivia keep it together (and their hands off each other) for one month? Find out next week on Name Your Price!

Book Name Your Price Second Edition

Download or read book Name Your Price Second Edition written by Joe R. Eagleman and published by Kindle Direct Publishing. This book was released on 2020-11-27 with total page 194 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Joe R. Eagleman, Ph.D. tells in this autobiography about the many facets of his life. His early education was in a one-room rural grade school. His invention of an artificial tornado that extended from the ceiling of his laboratory at the University of Kansas resulted in local interest as well as international filming from a news crew from Japan. It later became the subject of a lawsuit between Universal Studios in Hollywood and the Volvo Company. After he was told by Universal Studios to "Name your price" he became involved in this successful lawsuit. A 50 foot version of his tornado was the main attraction in the Twister Building at Universal Studios Park in Orlando Florida from 1998 to 2015. Another copy of his tornado was created with his help by Ned Kahn at the Exploratorium in San Francisco where it continues to attract viewers and has for many decades. This autobiography tells of his early life on the farm as one of 12 children who was told by an older brother that he would never amount to anything. He tells of experiences in the one room rural grade school and of dealing with a bully on the playground. It includes his development as a scientist, artist, musician, luthier, marksman, taxidermist and other endeavors. His unique journey to becoming a Professor and Research Scientist is described. His career resulted in one who had experiments on Skylab and who influenced many thousands of students through his teaching and books and who made national changes to tornado safety guidelines. He initiated and developed the program in Atmospheric Science at KU that has now grown into a full department where Joe Eagleman Scholarships are given to worthy students.

Book Consumer Protection and Online Auction Platforms

Download or read book Consumer Protection and Online Auction Platforms written by Christine Riefa and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-03-03 with total page 277 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Online auctions have undergone many transformations and continue to attract millions of customers worldwide. However these popular platforms remain understudied by legal scholars and misunderstood by legislators. This book explores the legal classification of online auction sites across a range of countries in Europe. Including empirical studies conducted on 28 online auction websites in the UK, the research focusses on the protection of consumers’ economic rights and highlights the shortcomings that the law struggles to control. With examinations into important developments, including the Consumer Rights Directive and the latest case law from the CJEU on the liability of intermediaries, Riefa anticipates changes in the law, and points out further changes that are needed to create a safe legal environment for consumers, whilst preserving the varied business model adopted by online auction sites. The study provides insights into how technical measures as well as a tighter legislative framework or enforcement pattern could provide consumers with better protection, in turn reinforcing trust, and ultimately benefiting the online auction platforms themselves.

Book What Goes Without Saying

Download or read book What Goes Without Saying written by Taylor N. Carlson and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2022-06-09 with total page 317 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Why are political conversations uncomfortable for so many people? The current literature focuses on the structure of people's discussion networks and the frequency with which they talk about politics, but not the dynamics of the conversations themselves. In What Goes Without Saying, Taylor N. Carlson and Jaime E. Settle investigate how Americans navigate these discussions in their daily lives, with particular attention to the decision-making process around when and how to broach politics. The authors use a multi-methods approach to unpack what they call the 4D Framework of political conversation: identifying the ways that people detect others' views, decide whether to talk, discuss their opinions honestly—or not, and determine whether they will repeat the experience in the future. In developing a framework for studying and explaining political discussion as a social process, What Goes Without Saying will set the agenda for research in political science, psychology, communication, and sociology for decades to come.
