Download or read book Nineteenth Century Emigration of Old Lutherans from Eastern Germany Mainly Pomerania and Lower Silesia to Australia Canada and the United States written by Clifford Neal Smith and published by Genealogical Publishing Com. This book was released on 2009-06 with total page 98 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As Mr. Smith has noted in the Introduction to this work, "There is little so rare in German-American genealogy as a complete emigrant passenger list from Bremen." As most researchers know, the Bremen lists were destroyed during the fire storm of that city during World War II. In the case of this work, however, Mr. Smith was able to recover fourteen Bremen lists because they had been reprinted in the obscure weekly newspaper from Rudolstadt, Thuringia, entitled the "Allgemeine Auswanderungs-Zeitung" (which can be found in the rare-book collection at Yale University). The compiler has transcribed the names of all persons bound for America from each of the fourteen lists. The emigrants, who are arranged alphabetically, are identified by place of origin and sometimes by the number of persons in the passenger's family or the names of traveling companions.

Download or read book Confessional Lutheran Migrations to America written by and published by . This book was released on 1988-11-30 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During the mid-19th century several large groups of German Lutherans emigrated to America for the express purpose of freely and openly living their faith. They had been denied this vital privilege in Europe. There were five distinct migrations from the German states between 1838 and 1854. These specific groups of Saxons, Prussians, Bavarians and Wends migrated as organized companies, totaled almost 5,000. The Lutherans that followed them to America during this 16 year period numbered many thousands more. These "Old Lutherans" re-introduced confessional Lutheranism to America by their strict adherence to the Unaltered Augsburg Confession and the entire Book of Concord.
