She's married to John Calvin Miller, a young and impoverished new minister. Life is lean at the Miller household until Kellie learns that she has inherited Running Tail Meadows, a resort worth almost $2,000,000! The catch is that it is dedicated to clothing-free living and there's nothing John and Kellie can do about it. How humiliating! Butt naked men! Butt naked women! In the same place-at the same time! Displaying breasts, buttocks, everything! Penises! Vaginas! Nude straights! Nude gays! Shameless! Brazen! Exhibitionism and voyeurism! A sea of succulent flesh: tanned, oiled and tantalizing! And John Calvin a man of the cloth! While anxiously trying to dispose of this albatross, the naive young newlyweds discover that life can be complicated. Friction arises between husband and wife, and neither one is entirely innocent. Then, without warning, Kellie changes-in many ways. Things couldn't get much more confusing. But, of course, they do.Has Kellie gone nuts? Is John the man he thinks he is? What's right? What's wrong? Does everyone get what they deserve? And does love really conquer all?Join John and Kellie, Harry, Roxanne, Cassandra, Barb and Bob as they pick their way through the minefield that seems to lie between them and their would-be Garden of Eden.Warning: This book deals graphically with the topics of nudism and religion. Please do not read it if you are likely to be offended by either, both, or the intersection of the two.

This book was released on 1998-06-25 with total page 289 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ayatollah al-Sayyid Abu al-Qasim al Musawi al-Khui (1899-1992) was one of the most respected and widely acclaimed authorities on Twelver Shi'ite Islam in this century. This book, which was first published in Arabic in 1974, presents al-Khuis comprehensive introduction to the history of the Quran. In it, al-Khui revisits many critical and controversial topics connected with the collection and ultimate canonization of the text that have received little attention in contemporary Muslim scholarship since the classical age. For instance, he tackles what is probably the single most controversial subject in Quranic studies: the question of possible alterations to the Quran as maintained by some succeeding generations of compilers of the Quran. Throughout the volume, al-Khui stresses the importance of understanding the historical setting in which the Quran was revealed; he does this in order to apply its provisions appropriately in contemporary Muslim society, with its ever-expanding legal and ethical requirements. In addition to expounding his own views, al-Khui also has the polemical purpose of refuting Sunni beliefs and concepts concerning various matters related to the theories of alteration and abrogation in the Quran. His arguments illuminate some of the substantial yet little-understood and appreciated issues that have been truly at stake between the two principal segments of the Muslim community. Translator Abdulaziz A. Sachedina supplies a helpful introduction to al-Khuis work, discussing the methodological problems involved with the study of such texts, and placing it in the historical context of polemic literature in Islam.

Book excerpt: First published in 1998, music scored for film has only relatively recently received the critical attention which it merits. Many composers in the twentieth century have written works for films or documentaries, a number feeling that this aspect of their output has been undervalued. This dictionary complements other studies which have appeared in recent years which look at the technical and theoretical issues concerned with film music composition. Arranged alphabetically by composer, the volume comprises over 500 entries covering all nationalities. Each entry includes very brief biographical information on the composer, followed by a list of the films (with dates) for which he or she has composed. Details of recordings are also given. The dictionary’s international coverage ensures that it will become a standard reference work for all those interested in the history of twentieth-century music and the development of film.

Book Criminal Paradise

    Book Details:
  • Author : Steven M. Thomas
  • Publisher : Ballantine Books
  • Release : 2008-02-26
  • ISBN : 0345504909

Download or read book Criminal Paradise written by Steven M. Thomas and published by Ballantine Books. This book was released on 2008-02-26 with total page 258 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The literature of larceny welcomes a newcomer with some serious chops, as Steven M. Thomas muscles his way to a place at the table–elbow-to-elbow with Elmore Leonard and Carl Hiaasen–courtesy of a harrowing, hilarious, two-fisted, hard-boiled thriller that’s pure heaven for anyone who loves a hell of a crime novel. Robert Rivers is a crook. No excuses, no apologies. Breaking the law is his calling, crime is his rush, capers his reason for getting up in the morning and staying up late at night. But he’s a thief with honor, plotting and pulling off carefully choreographed heists where no shots are fired, no blood is spilled, and nobody gets hurt . . . except in the wallet. After a brief stint behind bars back in the day, he’s managed to carve out a comfortable existence, cheerfully plundering the sunny Southern California community whose streets he tools in the tweaked-out Cadillac DeVille that’s his pride and joy. But now Rob (whose name has become ironic) is pushing forty, and–like his trusty partner, Switch, who’s got a pregnant girlfriend and a hefty stash of loot–he’s thinking about quitting the game. But then he and Switch, pulling their latest Butch and Sundance, score a payday that could end up costing them plenty. Inside a strongbox packed with greenbacks rests a disturbing black-and-white photo of a beautiful young girl, eyes full of fear as naked as she is. It’s an image that Rob can’t shake, and a wake-up call: There are rules even he won’t break. It’s also his one-way ticket into the underbelly of the underworld–a lethal landscape of sex slaves, sadistic psychopaths, and sawed-off shotguns, where honor is for fools, and trust is for suckers, where very bad people do even worse things and nice guys don’t finish at all. They just get finished off. With its alluring setting, quirky characters, and restrained and subtle prose, Criminal Paradise has something for every thriller fan. And with sharp natural instincts and writing skills as serious as his humor is sly, Steven M. Thomas shows as much promise as any author on the suspense scene.

Book excerpt: Adam Newman once had it all. But then he lost it. Now Adam yearns to reunite with his estranged wife, Evelyn, and recapture the Edenic life they once had running Paradise Dogs, the roadside hot-dog restaurant now legendary throughout central Florida. He has a few obstacles along the way. For starters, there's his impending marriage to Lily. There's also the matter of a quarter million dollars' worth of diamonds that he mislaid, along with what appears to be a shadowy conspiracy that is buying up land around the Cross-Florida Canal (and which may or may not be a product of Adam's alcohol-infused imagination). Despite his own troubles---and a brief stay in Chattahoochee---Adam looks to mentor his son, Addison, in the ways of love. Awkward, unsure, and employed as the world's least accurate obituary writer, Addison pines for a beautiful and painfully earnest linguistic student but must compete for her attention with his older and more sophisticated half brother from Evelyn's first marriage. But if anybody can set these worlds in order, it is Adam, who has an uncanny knack for being in the right place at the right time and allowing others to believe he's someone he's not. Whether it's delivering a baby, rescuing a marriage, or exposing a Communist conspiracy, our protagonist is up for the job. Paradise Dogs, from Georgia Author of the Year Award winner Man Martin, is a farcical tale of paradise lost, the American Dream, and the true measures of love

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A gloriously illustrated examination of the origins and development of the nude as an artistic subject in Renaissance Europe Reflecting an era when Europe looked to both the classical past and a global future, this volume explores the emergence and acceptance of the nude as an artistic subject. It engages with the numerous and complex connotations of the human body in more than 250 artworks by the greatest masters of the Renaissance. Paintings, sculptures, prints, drawings, illuminated manuscripts, and book illustrations reveal private, sometimes shocking, preoccupations as well as surprising public beliefs—the Age of Humanism from an entirely new perspective. This book presents works by Albrecht Dürer, Lucas Cranach, and Martin Schongauer in the north and Donatello, Raphael, and Giorgione in the south; it also introduces names that deserve to be known better. A publication this rich in scholarship could only be produced by a variety of expert scholars; the sixteen contributors are preeminent in their fields and wide-ranging in their knowledge and curiosity. The structure of the volume—essays alternating with shorter texts on individual artworks—permits studies both broad and granular. From the religious to the magical and the poetic to the erotic, encompassing male and female, infancy, youth, and old age, The Renaissance Nude examines in a profound way what it is to be human.

Download or read book Paradise written by Ruben van Schalm and published by . This book was released on 2020 with total page 112 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The core of the book by Ruben van Schalm, 'Paradise', depicts a place overruled by the elements of nature with at the centre its quintessential component: man. The journey towards finding and creating this very personal vision of paradise has been many years in the making. It was a journey of introspection, going down a path laid with shaky pebbles, but nevertheless essential as it was driven by an innate will to create and to reveal a particular vision. Years of research, travels and collaborations with like-minded individuals have shaped what we can now see in the pages of this book: an artistic force that found its calling in the portrayal of the relationship between man and nature. The book contains unpublished black & white and colour images from series that van Schalm has made in the Philippines, French Polynesia and Israel.
