This book was released on 1999 with total page 686 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The major expansion of transport networks in the twentieth century has been accompanied by extensive bridge construction. At the end of the century, the field of bridge engineering continues to grow and develop. Recent years have seen the construction of revolutionary new bridges, advances in materials and construction techniques and the development of international codes and standards aimed at producing more durable and reliable structures.

Book Current and Future Trends in Bridge Design Construction and Maintenance 2 Safety Economy Sustainability and Aesthetics

Download or read book Current and Future Trends in Bridge Design Construction and Maintenance 2 Safety Economy Sustainability and Aesthetics written by Institute of Civil Engineers and published by Thomas Telford. This book was released on 2001-12-14 with total page 584 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Institution of Civil Engineers has organised a series of conferences to celebrate, at the start of the New Millennium, the enormous achievements made in the field of bridge engineering in recent years. This volume of papers from the second of these conferences, held in Hong Kong, encompasses the state-of-the-art in bridge design, construction, maintenance and safety assessment. It includes papers on major bridge schemes, both completed and under construction, and on innovative approaches used in various parts of the world. It also looks at local and regional projects and bridge related issues. The wealth of information contained in this publication will be of interest to bridge consultants and contractors, practising engineers, researchers and bridge owners, both local and international.

Book Durability of Bridge Structures

Download or read book Durability of Bridge Structures written by Khaled Mahmoud and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2013-09-12 with total page 316 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: On Thursday evening, May 23, 2013, the Interstate 5 Bridge over the Skagit River in Washington state collapsed due to impact by an oversize truck, dumping vehicles and people into the water. Fortunately, the bridge is located in a rural area and nobody was killed in the accident, but three people were rescued after their cars plunged into the frigid water of the Skagit River. According to Washington state officials, the bridge was inspected last year and was not structurally deficient, but collapsed because of apparent impact from an oversize truck. Nevertheless, the collapse of the steel truss bridge renewed appeals for greater investment in the nation’s aging infrastructure. These appeals are echoed throughout the bridge engineering community worldwide, as the condition of deteriorated bridges worsens with increasing traffic loads combined with lack of proper maintenance. Bridge engineers from different countries shared their experience toward achieving durable bridge structures, during the 7th New York City Bridge Conference, held on August 26-27, 2013. This book contains select papers that were presented at the conference. These peer-reviewed papers are valuable contributions and of archival quality in bridge engineering.

Book Risk Based Bridge Engineering

Download or read book Risk Based Bridge Engineering written by Khaled Mahmoud and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2019-08-20 with total page 333 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Risk-based engineering is essential for the efficient asset management and safe operation of bridges. A risk-based asset management strategy couples risk management, standard work, reliability-based inspection and structural analysis, and condition-based maintenance to properly apply resources based on process criticality. This ensures that proper controls are put in place and reliability analysis is used to ensure continuous improvement. An effective risk-based management system includes an enterprise asset management or resource solution that properly catalogues asset attribute data, a functional hierarchy, criticality analysis, risk and failure analysis, control plans, reliability analysis and continuous improvement. Such efforts include periodic inspections, condition evaluations and prioritizing repairs accordingly. This book contains select papers that were presented at the 10th New York City Bridge Conference, held on August 26-27, 2019. The volume is a valuable contribution to the state-of-the-art in bridge engineering.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Serviceability failures of concrete structures involving excessive cracking or deflection are relatively common, even in structures that comply with code requirements. This is often as a result of a failure to adequately account for the time-dependent deformations of concrete in the design of the structure. The serviceability provisions embodied in
