Book excerpt: Discover How Tagore’s Spiritual Life and Vision Can Enlighten Your Own "Rabindranath Tagore’s philosophical and spiritual thoughts transcend all limits of language, culture, and nationality. In his writings, the poet and mystic takes us on a spiritual quest and gives us a glimpse of the infinite in the midst of the finite, unity at the heart of all diversity, and the Divine in all beings and things of the universe." —from the Preface bySwami Adiswarananda Rabindranath Tagore is one of the most influential mystic poets and teachers of the last century. Deeply spiritual and profoundly sensitive, his verse speaks to people from all backgrounds who seek a deeper understanding of self, country, creation, God, and love. This beautiful sampling of Tagore’s two most important works, The Gardener and Gitanjali, offers a glimpse into his spiritual vision that has inspired people around the world. Poems from The Gardener explore youth and earthly love, while excerpts from Gitanjali express divine love and Tagore’s difficulty in satisfying it. Overwhelmingly mystical and lovely in its simplicity, this unique collection offers insight into Tagore’s heavenly desires, his ongoing quest for Brahama Vihara, the joy eternal, and illuminates the remarkable diversity that made him the most important bridge between the spirituality of the East and West in the first half of the twentieth century.

Book Mystic Modernity

Download or read book Mystic Modernity written by Ashim Dutta and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2021-12-05 with total page 131 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a transnational and bilingual investigation of the cross-fertilisation of mystical religiosity and modern poetical imagination in the works of the Bengali poet Rabindranath Tagore and the Irish poet W. B. Yeats. The book demonstrates how their commitments to transnational mysticism deeply form and inform the modernist literary projects of these poets as well as their understanding of cultural modernity. Although its primary interest lies in their poetry and poetics, the monograph also includes some of their relevant prose works. This study begins with a close look at and around the phase of 1912-1913, when Yeats and Tagore met over the collection of the latter’s English translations of his spiritual verses, Gitanjali, and took mutual interests in each other’s works and cultural significances. The monograph then expands on both sides of that phase, selectively covering the whole career of the poets in its exploration of their parallel mystic-modern cultural-poetical projects.

Book excerpt: Stray Birds (1916) is a collection of poems by Rabindranath Tagore. Translated into English by Tagore after he received the 1913 Nobel Prize in Literature, Stray Birds is a powerful collection of short poems by a master of Indian literature. “Stray birds of summer come to my window to sing and fly away. And yellow leaves of autumn, which have no songs, flutter and fall there with a sigh.” The poems of Stray Birds are a masterclass in clarity and concision. Like birds themselves, they flutter across the sky of the page before passing beyond the limit of sight. In prayer, in celebration, and in evocations of the natural world, Tagore comes as close to the truth as possible, catching a glimpse before it can fly away forever: “Let me live truly, my Lord, so that death to me become true.” In plainspoken language, Tagore gives voice to the soul. With a beautifully designed cover and professionally typeset manuscript, this edition of Rabindranath Tagore’s Stray Birds is a classic of Indian literature reimagined for modern readers.

Book excerpt: The title leads one to believe that this may be just another boring book about our religions--but the author presents us with an entirely new religion that will make more sense to many readers than any of the religions that we have today. Tagore was a man of great wisdom who won the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1913 and was one of India's greatest poets. His personal mystical experiences, rather than any philosophical reasoning, led him to the Religion of Man, as he terms it. The God of this religion is an Eternal Spirit of unity that can be found within the heart of every person rather than in the sky. Each person is on a path to discover our unity with one another so that we may one day be released from the idea of division and separateness, which results in war and hatred. Ultimate truth can be realized by anyone who learns how to listen and tap into an inner source of divine wisdom. This power of realization can be enhanced through involvement with symbols, ceremonies, art, nature, literature, myths and legends. There is only one commandment in this religion, which is to spread this Divine Truth to others through words and deeds. This book has the power to open one's mind into a new and different level of meaningful consciousness, having been written by a gifted mystic who knew how to communicate on this level to others.

Download or read book Mysticism in the Poetry of Wordsworth Emerson and Tagore written by Kalyani Rajguru and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2011-10 with total page 244 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mysticism is an innate human query to realize the truth behind all existence. The great mystic, excelsior homme d' esprit Wordsworth was an optimistic pantheist and nature was his benign God. Furthermore, Clarum'et venerabile poet Emerson was an occidental who imbibed orientalism transcendentally. Nobel Laureate Tagore was a versatile poet-philosopher - dramatist-actor-painter and a humanist at large. After comparing and analyzing all their important works and contemplating on the vast criticism on them this book has come into existence. Moreover, like an are-en-ciel (rainbow) it reflects all the aspects, characteristics and types of mysticism including Eastern, Western and its history in English poetry. This book is functional for all the students doing graduation, or any post graduation course in English Literature or research works on any of these three poets or on mysticism. People who are interested in spirituality, philosophy, nature poetry, religion or cosmic consciousness would find this work quite elevating and informative a' tout force. Hope it will carry the readers to the mystic's illumined ecstatic world of light, knowledge and creativity ad infinitum.
