Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A leading yoga researcher offers a clear and lively introduction to the history, philosophy, and practice of the Tantric spiritual tradition Tantra—often associated with Kundalini Yoga—is a fundamental dimension of Hinduism, emphasizing the cultivation of “divine power” (shakti) as a path to infinite bliss. Tantra has been widely misunderstood in the West, however, where its practices are often confused with eroticism and licentious morality. Tantra: The Path of Ecstasy dispels many common misconceptions, providing an accessible introduction to the history, philosophy, and practice of this extraordinary spiritual tradition. The Tantric teachings are geared toward the attainment of enlightenment as well as spiritual power and are present not only in Hinduism but also Jainism and Vajrayana Buddhism. In this book, Georg Feuerstein offers readers a clear understanding of authentic Tantra, as well as appropriate guidance for spiritual practice and the attainment of higher consciousness.

Download or read book The Tao of Tantric Yoga written by Satyama Ratna Lasby and published by . This book was released on 2021-05-06 with total page 220 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Tao of Tantric Yoga is the response to people wanting to know more about the tantric and yogic paths. It is for the tens of thousands of people working on themselves, who sense that there is something MORE to life. Appealing to women and men wishing for how-to's, experimental ways and alternative thinking about sexuality, retaining energy for creative endeavours, the secrets of feminine ways, and alternative ways to make love. This book is about real love. The longing behind it all. Perhaps you have grown so comfortable with your relationship that you are now wondering how to be as free and erotic as you used to be, or how to approach the topic of open relationships. Perhaps you have been single for a long time, so romantic love may not truly exist for you, but tantra can, and so can self-love by following a yogic lifestyle. This unique personal and helpful way of explaining things offers ways in which we can know ourselves so well that, with practice, our lives will change. Evolution is happening Now. We can become people with wisdom and compassion, communicating well, asking for what we want and getting it, and understanding that life is what we are creating for ourselves moment to moment. The number of people who practice yoga and meditation has grown immensely. While yoga itself is 6,000 years old, it was re-popularized several times and now millions of people are partaking in practices of all sorts, from kundalini to yin. Tantric Yoga awakens us to a deeper understanding of our bodies, and how the body is connected to the expression and experience of the emotions, and the magnitude that comes with chakra purification. The Tao of Tantric Yoga's author Satyama Ratna Lasby is inspired and reveals some of her erotic time spent in the ashram of Osho Rajneesh, the enlightened spiritual leader known for his radical approach to life and sex. He eloquently paved the way for unconventional and intelligent relating using neo-tantric meditations for wisdom and in-the-moment living. Osho spoke about tantra and its spiritual relationship to sex, likely a few years too soon. Growing pains in tantric practices are highlighted in communities like Koh Phangan where tourists abound (looking for sex though maybe not ready to admit it), tantra teachers are born too quickly, and many "scandals" happen due to karma, desires unfulfilled, lack of communication, or differences in conditioning. There is more authentic curiosity than ever before from those wanting peak experiences in life and in their sexuality. The Tao of Tantric Yoga explains how body and mind are necessary for the awareness of healing, which includes sexual healing, where most carry wounds and fears which are covered by human behaviour and speech. Once healing has taken place, pleasure can occur, and once pleasure is experienced, there is no end to the heightened states possible through ritualizing sacred practices either with yourself or another, or simply by practicing and experimenting with consciousness and meditation. There are many ways to do this; some are described, step by step so that you can try them in their life. Tantric rituals are also given in detail, as are tantric sexual positions and the alignment of the chakras via yoga and sexual practice. The book is also an exploration what makes certain types of communities sustainable through their choice in spiritual practices, also in their choice of how to deal with conflicts that arise in relationships where love and sexuality are involved. The community of Tamera in Portugal is highlighted for its communication and conscious care of others via truthful and fully transparent paths. Behind all practices may be the doorway to how we live now, in a radically shifting paradigm that includes a look at how COVID is affecting us and how we can care globally through yoga.

Download or read book Yoga Spandakarika written by Daniel Odier and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2005-03-23 with total page 171 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Translation and commentary of one of the most important texts of the Kashmirian Shivaism tradition of Tantra • Author was a student of the late Kalu Rinpoche • Explores the transmission of Mahamudra, the Great Cosmic Gesture • Includes the Vijnanabhaïrava Tantra, which contains the totality of the oldest source text on Yoga The Spandakarika, the "Tantric Song of the Divine Pulsation," is said to have been transmitted directly to the sage Vasugupta from the hands of Shiva on Mount Kailas. In his commentary on these fifty-two stanzas, the sage Ksemaraja described them as the heart of the Mahamudra. The oldest masters of Spandakarika viewed everything in the universe, including matter, as consciousness and created a yoga practice in accordance with this realization. The sacred dance of Yoga Spandakarika, Tandava, is extremely subtle and difficult, requiring thousands of hours of practice to master, yet it surpasses any other physical practice, allowing the practitioner to touch the divine inner pulse. Once its third stage has been mastered, the yogi or yogini is able to manifest the dance of Shiva in space, a tradition visible in the statuary of Tantric temples in India and Tibet. Energy is no longer contracted by the perception of duality, and the mind and body become unbounded, forming a sphere that contains all that was formerly outside. In Yoga Spandakarika Daniel Odier passes on these vanishing teachings as he received them from his Tibetan master, Kalu Rinpoche, and Kashmiri yogi Lalita Devi.

Download or read book Para trisika Vivarana of Abhinavagupta written by Abhinavagupta and published by Motilal Banarsidass Publishe. This book was released on 1988 with total page 446 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Paratrisika (or Paratrimsika) is a short Tantra which has been held in the highest esteem by Kashmir Saivism or Trika. After Somananda, Abhinavagupta has written two commentaries on it, a short one (Laghuvrtti) and an extensive one the present Vivarana which is presented here for the first time in an English translation. The Paratrisika Vivarana is one of the most fascinating but also most difficult texts of the Kashmir Saiva School, and of the mystical philosophical literature of India as a whole. It deals with Ultimate Reality (anuttara or para) and with the methods of realization, centred above all in the theory and practice of the mantra. Abhinavagupta displays here his great exegetical genius and presents a penetrating metaphysics of language, of the Word (vak) and its various stages in relation to consciousness. His language reflects in a luminous fashion the mystical experience contained in this text. The present translation of Abhinavagupta`s masterpiece will not only be a milestone in the study of Kashmir Saivism, but it also makes available one of the major mystical texts of the Indian tradition to readers interested in philosophy and spirituality Contents Preface by Bettina Baumer, List of Abbreviations, PART I: Paratrisika-Vivarana of Abhinavagupta: Translation with notes, Prelimiaries, Verse 1 of Paratrisika, Commentary, Different implications of the Word Devi, The rationale of the past tense in 'said', The final Resting Place of all questions and answers, Sixteen interpretations of anuttara, Interpretation of Kaulika-siddhidam, Exposition on verse 1 and Commentary, Etad guhyam mahaguhyam.. text and commentary, PART II: Paratrisika-Vivarana: Sanskrit Text, Index of Half-Verses of Paratrisika, Index of Quotations

Book excerpt: A captivating study of the ancient Indian movement that has influenced and intrigued the world for more than a millennium. The Tantras, a set of sacred manuscripts that emerged in India from around the sixth century CE, detail rituals for attracting spiritual, worldly, and supernatural power. These rituals, which focus on the power of fierce gods and goddesses and center around yoga, self-deification, sexual rites, and the consumption of intoxicants, became an integral part of the meditations and philosophical practices of Tantric Hinduism and Buddhism. This book examines the philosophies, core beliefs, and artistic expressions of Tantra, and its impact on religious, cultural, and political landscapes across the globe. In tracing the history of the movement, author Imma Ramos reveals Tantra’s origins and continued relevance in India, as well as its redefinition as it was adopted by Western popular culture during the 1960s. Tantra: enlightenment to revolution accompanies a major exhibition at the British Museum, and is illustrated extensively with masterpieces of sculpture, painting, print, and ritual objects from India, Nepal, Tibet, China, Japan, the United Kingdom, and the United States, dating as far back as the eighth century CE.

Download or read book Tantric Jesus written by James Hughes Reho and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2017-01-13 with total page 488 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A guide to the history and modern practice of transformative Christianity • Reveals the original tantric wisdom of Jesus and the early Church and its resonance with the tantric yogas of India and Tibet • Explains how tantric Christianity views the human body as the primary “temple” of the Holy and erotic energy as the signature of indwelling Divine Presence • Provides step-by-step instructions for a series of Christian tantric practices, including a partnered sexual practice, mantra and energy work, eye gazing, and work with icons Unbeknownst to many, the original Christian spirituality as practiced in the early church and by Jesus himself was a tantric spirituality. In the West, Tantra often evokes images of arcane rituals or acrobatic sexual positions, while in reality Tantra is a holistic transformative path of life, love, and being--grounded in practice. Offering a new understanding of Jesus as guru and master of left-handed Tantra, James Reho, an Episcopal priest and tantric initiate, reframes the Christian story and restores to modern Christianity the tantric wisdom practices that were edited out of church tradition and forgotten over the centuries. He explains how tantric Christianity views the human body as the primary “temple” of the Holy, with erotic energy as the signature of Divine Presence within. Rev. Reho reveals the similarities of the earliest Christian practices to the tantric yogas of India and Tibet and explores the role of Kundalini and the chakras. He details how to work with mantras, icons, and pranayama breathing exercises, as well as with gazing as a spiritual practice. Informed by the insights of ancient texts and early masters of Christian spirituality, the author provides step-by-step instructions on how to practice Christian tantric sex with a life-partner of the opposite or same sex. Rev. Reho reveals how these heart-opening practices are rooted in eros, the life of deep desire, expressive of God’s grace within us, and are still alive in monastic practices in the Christian East. Integrating his personal spiritual experiences, years of study of ancient Christian mysticism, and an expertise in yoga and tantra, the author shows how we can re-engage the original truths of the early church to affirm the body as a holy vehicle and to utilize the energy of the erotic to achieve ecstatic union with the Divine.
