Book excerpt: "So, where's the human?" Olivia pursed her lips at the disrespect. "Her name is Haisley, and she's in the room next to your old room." Roman stiffened, remembering the sweet scent from that direction when he came up earlier. It couldn't be. "How old is your friend?" Olivia raised her eyebrow at the question but answered despite it. "She's a year older than me, but her birthday is in a few months, so she's still 26." Roman nodded slightly at that as he stepped out of the room. "I'll see you at dinner." He walked towards his bedroom and could hear the shower in the shared bathroom. He was itching to see her face. Haisley. Why was her scent so intoxicating? Mangoes and coconut. The smell dominated his senses, and he was having trouble focusing. He needed to check to be sure himself. Without overthinking it, he barged into the unlocked bathroom. Stupid girl. He muttered to himself as the intoxicating scent filled the whole bathroom. He knew what this meant. But it wasn't possible. Could it be? Haisley screeched as she held the towel tighter around her, just stepping out of the shower, but she had accidentally grabbed one of the shorter towels in the closet. It barely covered her ass, and Haisley felt very vulnerable standing naked across the man who barged in rudely while she was in the shower. It clicked, then. It was Olivia's brother, one of her older brothers. She stood there watching him; she felt too intimidated to even raise her voice at him. What is wrong with me? Do something, idiot. Don't just stand there. She looked at Roman and let out a scream, hoping Olivia would hear and come running to save her from her brute of a brother. But before the sound could even echo, he pressed her into the glass shower doors. A hand pressed firmly on her mouth. Strange sensations spread across her body, clouding her judgment as she stared at Roman with the same confused look in his eyes. However, unlike him, she recovered quickly, pushing him hard, almost losing her towel, and ran to the door that led to her room. MATE! Roman's wolf growled in his head as Haisley slipped away from him. No, this can't be. She's human, and I'm the Alpha King. She can't be. * * * Haisley, a small-town girl with big dreams lives with her roommate and best friend, Olivia for the past six years in Liverpool. They just graduated as Veterinarians and for their last summer together before they part ways, Olivia invites Haisley, her maid of honour, to her small town, Magnolia Springs, Alabama, where she is getting married. However, Haisley didn't know she was stepping into a territory filled with Supernatural beings. From the moment she stepped into the town, she was met with cold shoulders. Will Haisley survive the summer? Will she uncover the secrets of this Mystic Town? And why does Olivia's brother take a sudden interest in her?

Book A History of Mystic Connecticut

Download or read book A History of Mystic Connecticut written by Leigh Fought and published by Arcadia Publishing. This book was released on 2007-12-07 with total page 189 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Read the history of Mystic, Connecticut, from quiet farming village to wartime shipbilding powerhouse, to the charming nautical- themed destination it is today. Tucked away in a natural port, Mystic has long been home to seagoing adventure. In A History of Mystic, Connecticut, author and former Mystic Seaport librarian Leigh Fought relates the compelling story of this picturesque coastal community. Forged from the brutal Pequot War, for years Mystic was a quiet little farming village. Then came the War of 1812. Mystic's upstart venture capitalists seized on the war's dislocations to transform the settlement into a shipbuilding powerhouse. The shipyards launched vessels by the hundreds and an industry was born. The Civil War, steam-powered ships and the decline of commercial whaling halted Mystic's shipbuilding boom. Yet the town recovered, transforming itself into the charming nautical-themed tourist destination that has enchanted millions. Read Fought's comprehensive narrative to discover Mystic's role in New England's thrilling maritime saga.

Book excerpt: The Civil War is finally over, and the survivors have returned to their lives to try to rebuild. There was very little time for rest and relaxation. Nothing can be truer for the people of the small country town of Mystic. However, something has come to Mystic with the survivors...a game called Base Ball. For many years the people of Mystic have indulged themselves in various kinds of stick-and-ball games...everything from cricket to rounders, to something called Muffin Ball, but none of the games were ever popular enough to become organized...until Base Ball. As the residents of Mystic struggle establish their own Base Ball club, they discover that Base Ball is taking over the nation by storm. With a faithful group of town leaders, a retired Judge, and several veterans, Mystic finds that it is ahead of the storm, instead of getting caught up in it. As the town team forms, and a simple league with other small towns is established, the Mystic town folk enjoy watching their very own team playing this “city game” their way...making mistakes, fumbling over the bases, and arguing with...everyone, the people of Mystic become a true base ball town. Then when captain of the Drummers contacts the Mystic team with a request to come to Mystic to play a fun exhibition game on the Fourth of July, the initial thought was one of reservation...the Drummers were a traveling team of colored players. To the people of Mystic, a town that sided with the Northern Union forces, the prospect of playing a colored “barnstorming” team was cause to celebrate a game that changed the town of Mystic forever.

Book excerpt: Mystic was one of the most active shipbuilding ports along New England's southern coast during the mid-1800s. At the end of the age of sail, Mystic made a successful transition to a new economy based on textile and machine manufacturing, maritime engineering, and small craft building. These industries carried the village into the twentieth century. Today Mystic is a world-class tourist destination, a community that is both divided and unified by the Mystic River. The history of Mystic mirrors the history of many coastal New England towns, but the images here are unique to this southeastern Connecticut region and will be recognized by both residents and visitors alike.

Book excerpt: On the banks of the Mystic River, the Connecticut community of Mystic has a maritime history that stretches back beyond the founding of the nation. Starting as a Native American settlement, the area switched hands--first to the Dutch, then to the English--before finally becoming a part of the United States after the Revolutionary War. Mystic's location made it an ideal port for coastal commerce. As the nation grew, so did Mystic, with the village using its unique location to serve both the coastal fishing industry and the US Navy. The Mystic drawbridge serves as a reminder of the community's maritime heritage. In its current state, Mystic serves as both a cradle to some of Connecticut's oldest families and a tourist attraction for those wanting to sample vintage New England life.
