Book Recipes and Memoirs of a Creole Cook

Download or read book Recipes and Memoirs of a Creole Cook written by Twain M. Henry and published by Dog Ear Publishing. This book was released on 2010-11 with total page 114 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Twain Michael Henry loves to cook. His grandparents were Philip and Claudia Randolph of Randolph Caterers. They won many bids to cater some of the biggest Mardi Gras balls in New Orleans. He took a genuine interest in cooking even after both of his grandparents passed on. One day when he was thirteen, his mother accepted a large party to cater. Unfortunately, two days before the function, she was admitted to the hospital. Her first instinct should have been to cancel, but she had more confidence in Twain than that. It took him through the night and the next day, but he had it done on time and in boxes for his brother to take to Audubon Place. Those days of doing things one way, the right way, paid off. From that day on, there wasnʼt anything he couldnʼt do if he put his mind to it; especially in a pot. Recipes and Memoirs of a Creole Cook is a New Orleans compilation of personal and family recipes created and enjoyed through the years. In addition, most of the recipes begin with a comical story that may or may not have anything to do with the recipe. Some of the stories are accompanied by illustrations that attempt to bring a visual picture to the situation at hand. He started this effort in 1997 and printed and sold about 600 copies. It was a small scale project, filled with stories, but with no pictures of the finished recipes. Since then, his cooking expertise has further improved. He has owner/chef restaurant years under his belt, although heʼll be the first to say that he is not classically trained. He has also since won several 1st Place awards for dishes enclosed in this book and still appears as a chef for multiple charity events every year. His favorite charity, however, is Scholars Inc., as he founded it in 2007 to help African-American youth in his local school district to compete for life, scholarships and US Academy Appointments. This book will be given to donors and sold to the mildly curious. All proceeds will go to Scholars Inc. The recipes in this book range from easy to complex. The flavors, no matter how they end up, have their roots in New Orleans. He has traveled to many states and countries eager to return with ideas and flavors to enhance his native cuisine. This book is the culmination of most of what he has learned. It is a historical document of his family that he is happy to share with anyone who wants to partake.

Book Recipes and Memories from Mama s Table

Download or read book Recipes and Memories from Mama s Table written by Linda K. Farris and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 227 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Linda Farris, her husband Garlin and their son Jeff moved to the beautiful little city of Fairhope, Alabama, after Garlin's retirement in 2010. There she has found time to pursue her hobbies of painting, photography, and writing. These things were part of Linda's list of things to do, some day, when there was enough time. Raising two daughters and taking care of a son with special needs, while living in five different states, have made life interesting. Add two sons-in-law, six wonderful grandchildren, a new grandson-in-law and her first great-grandchild due in March, and life is good. The Hendrix family reunion is an important part of Linda's life. Because of it this cookbook was started. The original descendants of Law Donald and Lennie Mae Hendrix, five boys and five girls, decided at their mother's funeral to keep the family connected by having a reunion every summer. The year was 1969. Since then attendance has grown to over 100 and the family has had some wonderful times together and grown closer over the years. Friends and family from all over the South have shared stories and recipes from their Mama's tables and Linda has added stories and memories of her Mama and Papa Hendrix and her Granny and Grandad Tucker. If you enjoy this collection of nostalgia and good food, and would like to honor someone special with a story or a recipe, contact Linda at ([email protected]). Perhaps we can make another visit to "Mama's Table".

Book Recollections and Recipes of the Winery and the Vineyards Restaurant

Download or read book Recollections and Recipes of the Winery and the Vineyards Restaurant written by Patricia Pirtle and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2016-06-07 with total page 139 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We wanted this to be a cookbook with a view of its beginnings, starting with the winery. The restaurant came four years later. We had the good fortune to purchase the restaurant land in 1983. The winery took most of our time. Our son Charles had worked as a chef in New York and Kansas City and had also worked for his grandmother Mary Wallace (Patricias mother) in her (famous) drive-in restaurant in Lufkin, Texas. We suggested to him that he revive the old house with our help. Winery customers all wanted a place to have lunch. The restaurant would complement the winery and vice versa. He finally agreed, revived the old house almost single handedly and made the restaurant famous. After a while, the tail wagged the dog. This is an intimate view of the story, with recipes included.
