Download or read book My Therapy Journal written by Micah Mason and published by Archway Publishing. This book was released on 2018-09-11 with total page 178 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It all started when an innocent little Brownie walked to a neighbor’s house to sell Girl Scout calendars. It seemed like an overdone, slobbery kiss as Micah Mason left, but at age seven, she wasn’t really sure. That moment instigated four years of hiding or being caught and molested, and a chronic state of hypervigilance. As the events led Micah into therapy, a counselor suggested she journal as homework. In a collection of raw, unfiltered poems penned in a therapy journal over several decades, Micah invites others to witness her heartbreaking journey through childhood trauma and therapy into adulthood as she faced life-altering abuse, witnessed its affects on her life, and eventually learned healthy coping skills and self-awareness. Her poems illustrate the ups and downs of life while healing, trust issues with those who failed her, and the power of her faith as it carried her through the most challenging of times. My Therapy Journal shares a moving compilation of poems that convey the myriad of emotions that accompanied one woman’s journey through childhood trauma, broken trust issues, and eventual healing.

Download or read book Pedophilia Hebephilia and Sexual Offending against Children written by Klaus M. Beier and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-03-08 with total page 285 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides extensive information on pedophilia (sexual interest in the prepubescent body age), hebephilia (sexual interest in the early-pubescent body age) and sexual offenses against children, i.e., the various forms of child sexual abuse, including the use of child sexual abuse images, along with the current state of knowledge concerning offender groups. The book makes it clear that pedophilia or hebephilia do not inevitably lead to offenses against children – that there are those who keep their desires in their fantasies and do not act them out on the behavioral level. The World Health Organization classifies pedophilia as a mental disorder. It can be safely assumed that many pedophile men in a given community live their lives, unrecognized and adamant about hiding their sexual drives from society and from themselves, and who are genuinely motivated not to act upon their sexual fantasies. The numbers of exactly this particular group of pedophilically inclined non-offenders can be increased by preventive therapeutic measures. For this purpose, two treatment programs have been developed at the Institute of Sexology and Sexual Medicine at the Charité-Universitätsmedizin Berlin (University Clinic) since the initiation of the Prevention Project Dunkelfeld in 2005 – First, the project involving adult participants (Berlin Dissexuality Therapy: BEDIT) and later, another for adolescents (BEDIT-A), who find themselves attracted to children. Both program manuals are completely integrated into this work, which reflects 15 years of assessment and treatment experience.

Download or read book Awakening of a Jehovah s Witness written by Diane Wilson and published by Prometheus Books. This book was released on 2010-05 with total page 327 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This tale of mind control, the use of fear to manipulate vulnerable people, and final escape from a suffocating cult environment is a revealing exposeof a secretive contemporary sect, as well as a true psychological thriller. Diane Wilson spent twenty-five precious years of her life, first becoming indoctrinated by the dogma of the Watchtower Society, and then struggling to free herself from its pervasive, intimidating clutches. In this probing, brutally honest assessment, Wilson describes how a childhood of psychological abuse and lack of self-confidence rendered her vulnerable to the seductive doctrines of the Jehovah's Witnesses. What she reveals about the goings-on within the closed Watchtower Society will shock the average person who assumes the polite, well-dressed people who pass out leaflets are much like any other conservative religious group. Wilson contends that membership in the Jehovah's Witnesses requires obedience bordering on psychological enslavement and complete suppression of individuality. Her engrossing memoir will be of great interest to former Witnesses, students of cult phenomena, and anyone who has ever had contact with Jehovah's Witnesses.
Download or read book Crossings written by Jon Kerstetter and published by Crown. This book was released on 2018-09-04 with total page 354 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A searing, beautifully told memoir by a Native American doctor on the trials of being a doctor-soldier in the Iraq War, and then, after suffering a stroke that left his life irrevocably changed, his struggles to overcome the new limits of his body, mind, and identity. Every juncture in Jon Kerstetter’s life has been marked by a crossing from one world into another: from civilian to doctor to soldier; between healing and waging war; and between compassion and hatred of the enemy. When an injury led to a stroke that ended his careers as a doctor and a soldier, he faced the most difficult crossing of all, a recovery that proved as shattering as war itself. Crossings is a memoir of an improbable, powerfully drawn life, one that began in poverty on the Oneida Reservation in Wisconsin but grew by force of will to encompass a remarkable medical practice. Trained as an emergency physician, Kerstetter’s thirst for intensity led him to volunteer in war-torn Rwanda, Kosovo, and Bosnia, and to join the Army National Guard. His three tours in the Iraq War marked the height of the American struggle there. The story of his work in theater, which involved everything from saving soldiers’ lives to organizing the joint U.S.–Iraqi forensics team tasked with identifying the bodies of Saddam Hussein’s sons, is a bracing, unprecedented evocation of a doctor’s life at war. But war was only the start of Kerstetter’s struggle. The stroke he suffered upon returning from Iraq led to serious cognitive and physical disabilities. His years-long recovery, impeded by near-unbearable pain and complicated by PTSD, meant overcoming the perceived limits of his body and mind and reimagining his own capacity for renewal and change. It led him not only to writing as a vocation but to a deeper understanding of how healing means accepting a new identity, and how that acceptance must be fought for with as much tenacity as any battlefield victory.
Download or read book A Reflective Guide to Gender Identity Counselling written by Madison-Amy Webb and published by Jessica Kingsley Publishers. This book was released on 2019-05-21 with total page 266 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Counselling professionals are increasingly seeking training for working with gender variant clients. Madison-Amy Webb invites them to consider a simple truth: everyone has a gender identity, whether or not they've given it much thought. By reflecting on their own gender identity through the exercises provided, counsellors can relate to clients in new and productive ways, gaining a more nuanced understanding of the issues faced by their clients and of their own identity. Incisive yet accessible, this unique guide shines a light on how the popular conception of gender identity came into being by looking at the social and historical influences at play. This context is then brought to life with a rich variety of case studies and excerpts from the author's own diary. Reflective exercises such as 'The Dressing Up Box' and 'Personal Meaning' will help readers develop a deeper understanding of their own gender identity, while clinical techniques offer new ways to connect with gender variant clients effectively. Essential reading for any counselling professional working with gender variant clients.
