Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Moll Rogers had a long, mostly loving marriage to Sir John Harington. Sir John a godson of Queen Elizabeth I, was a courtier, port, wit, scamp, dog-lover, jailbird, sanitary engineer (he invested the water-flushing lavatory), briefly a soldier in Ireland and an indefatigable traveller through England and Wales. In My Restless Knight, Moll is seen casting and often sardonic eye, during his absences, over his multifarious writings, including his many private letters. The poems he wrote to her she finds sometimes exasperating, sometimes consoling. He also wrote several to her mother. These were not always conciliatory. His letter to noblemen and gentlemen is seen to give Moll an unusually clear insight into the life of the court. Her duties with her large family meant that she rarely got to go there with her husband. He, however, was often there, dancing in attendance to his godmother the Queen.

Book excerpt: After experiencing a childhood full of fear and pain in the Magic Realm, Knight Adelaide must reinvent herself to survive the hardships that are thrown at her. In becoming the Silver Knight, she is able to push away her past and live a new life. But the past doesn’t stay in the past for long. In being forced to confront her lost love head on, she must find the strength to continue on, building back the pieces of herself that she thought she left buried and gone. Her journey is fraught with magic and powers that must be overcome if she wants to survive. About the Author Melony A Wagner has been a lover of fantasy ever since she read her first “big book” in the fourth grade. After that, she started writing about worlds she wished that existed. Everywhere she went, she had a notebook and pen with her to jot down ideas or capture a vision that struck her. When she got to college, she used writing as a way to keep her mind organized and she managed to write a whole book. With degrees in Equine Management and Equine Journalism, Melony now lives and works on a horse farm, which has been her biggest dream ever since she was a little girl. She teaches riding lessons, trains horses, and manages the stable during the day, writing in her free time. Having a degree in Equine Journalism, she was able to apply what she learned to take her writing to the next level. She has a wonderful family who has supported her all throughout her journey of achieving her dreams, and she is fortunate that they all still live very close. Melony’s sister is her biggest inspiration, and they are exceptionally close.

Book An Easter Disciple The Chronicle of Quintus the Roman Knight

Download or read book An Easter Disciple The Chronicle of Quintus the Roman Knight written by Arthur Benton Sanford and published by Good Press. This book was released on 2019-12-19 with total page 31 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This work presents a concise retelling of the ministry and passion from the perspective of a Roman officer. Excerpt from "An Easter Disciple" "On Scopus, the high mountain north of Jerusalem, the Roman camp was pitched, that last autumn in the ministry of Jesus of Nazareth. A few years further on, if the warriors of the Emperor Tiberius could then have foreseen the future, Titus was to quarter his famous legions on that vantage point; and from its elevation he was to hurl himself as a resistless battering ram against the Holy City. But, on this autumn day, when these chronicles begin, no blare of trumpets was summoning the Roman soldiery to arms; only the feet of the camp sentinels, as they walked their appointed rounds, broke the quiet of the sunlit afternoon."

Book The Acts of King Arthur and His Noble Knights

Download or read book The Acts of King Arthur and His Noble Knights written by John Steinbeck and published by Penguin. This book was released on 2008-12-30 with total page 416 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Steinbeck's only work of fantasy literature—in a deluxe edition with a foreword by Christopher Paolini, New York Times bestselling author of Eragon, Eldest and Brisingr A Penguin Classic Malory’s Le Morte d’Arthur was the first book that John Steinbeck truly enjoyed reading as a child. Fascinated by Arthurian tales of adventure, knighthood, honor and friendship, in addition to the challenging nuances of the original Anglo-Saxon language, Steinbeck set out to render these stories faithfully and with keen animation for a modern audience. Here then is Steinbeck’s modernization of the adventure of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table, featuring the icons of Arthurian legend—including King Arthur, Merlin, Morgan le Fay, the incomparable Queen Guinevere, and Arthur's purest knight, Sir Lancelot of the Lake. These enduring tales of loyalty and betrayal in the time of Camelot flicker with the wonder and magic of an era past but not forgotten. Steinbeck's retelling will capture the attention and imagination of legions of Steinbeck fans, including those who love Arthurian romances, as well as countless readers of science fiction and fantasy literature. This edition features a new foreword by Christopher Paolini, author of the number-one New York Times bestselling novels Eragon, Eldest, and Brisingr. It also includes the letters John Steinbeck wrote to his literary agent, Elizabeth Otis, and to Chase Horton, the original editor of this volume. For more than seventy years, Penguin has been the leading publisher of classic literature in the English-speaking world. With more than 1,700 titles, Penguin Classics represents a global bookshelf of the best works throughout history and across genres and disciplines. Readers trust the series to provide authoritative texts enhanced by introductions and notes by distinguished scholars and contemporary authors, as well as up-to-date translations by award-winning translators.

Book Sister Crazy

Book excerpt: Jemima Weiss grew up with a special feeling for British commandos, American westerns, the Knights of the Round Table, bagels with cheddar on top, and, above all else, her family. Now grown into a worldly yet deeply troubled woman, Jem revisits her formative years, even as she struggles not to let herself be engulfed by the present. In a voice crackling with humour and shot with straight talk, she recounts a childhood in a family so extraordinary that it has left her adrift in the adult world. In seven episodes that elide to form a dense, rich impression of an unforgettable family, Jem candidly relates her mythological view of her parents – her gruff Jewish father, whom she saw as a gunslinging cowboy, and her prophetic, beautiful mother who, like a “good witch,” always knew what her children were thinking and feeling. Then there are her four siblings, chief among them a charismatic, adventurous brother who has remained Jem’s main object of affection, and her ethereal little sister, Harriet, who becomes a surprising source of comfort in Jem’s adult life.
