Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The interpretations of 'Song of Songs' in the tannaitic midrashim, the first rabbinic scriptural commentaries, employ a form of allegory known as figural interpretation or typology in order to correlate this work to Israel's ideal national narrative represented by events such as the crossing of the sea and the giving of the Torah. This approach to interpreting 'Song of Songs' helped shape rabbinic conceptions of the character and practice of model Israel as well as of an idealised vision of their beloved, God.

Book Count God In

  • Author : Loren F. Bliese

Download or read book Count God In written by Loren F. Bliese and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2018-03-09 with total page 196 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study of Song of Songs uncovers many patterns related to the numerical value twenty-six and related numbers for the divine name YHWH. Patterns are so unique that they clearly show authorial intent. They involve the numerical value of root forms of words, their sequences, and their totals in the book. The beloved man is highlighted by special patterns, which indicate that a typology for God is intended. Deer names in the refrain have number patterns that confirm intention for being circumlocutions for divine names. The disputed presence of the divine name YH in 8:6 is confirmed by the value of its full word. One of the most striking patterns found with the help of a computer is that the totals of root words are all arranged to point to theological numbers in a beautiful intricacy. Besides describing these patterns, this study discusses numerical competence within a proposed Hebrew literary circle, and what steps they might have gone through to create these amazing phenomena. These theological numbers confirm intentionality for allusions to the Hebrew Bible and support a hermeneutic of spiritual applications. A literary analysis of each poem focuses on the use of numbers among other features of prominence.

Book excerpt: America's foremost scholar on formative Judaism examines the issue of gender as it appears in the corpus of rabbinic literature and arrives at some provocative conclusions. While the structure of Judaism based on the dual Torah is clearly masculine in orientation, the substructure--the religious system that shapes its values and perception--is androgynous, an individual conjunction of genders. In fact, the higher values, as defined by the relevant writings, prove to be feminine.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The writings of John have a very special focus on God the Father. Many people who know Jesus, or claim to know him, have a limited or nonexistent personal knowledge of God the Father. It is, of course, essential for us to know Jesus, but his fervent desire for him is that we may also know the Father so intimately that we can ask him for whatever we will in Jesus' name and our prayers may be granted. By the Holy Spirit, we can have such deep and intimate communion with Jesus and the Father, that seeing our love for one another, everyone shall know that we are his disciples (John 13:35). And this is life eternal, that they might know the only true God and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent. – John 17:3

This book was released on 2001 with total page 310 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This theological commentary to the Rabbinic Midrash explores a simple proposition, in three parts. I. The reading of Scripture by principal parts of the Rabbinic Midrash is formed by compositions and composites that are animated by a cogent theological system. II. These primary components of the Midrash-compilations, further, are in part aimed at systematic demonstrations of theorems of a theological character. III. While forming a principal part of a large theological structure and system, each document is unique. This commentary in its concluding chapter presents what is common to the animating theology of Rabbinic Judaism in all its documentary components and what is unique to Song of Songs Rabbah.

Victoria's long black hair flew over her shoulder as the fifteen-year-old met her father's angry glare. His hands were hurting her arms, as he continued to grasp her tightly. Her once-beautiful, soft brown eyes were wild with fear and hate. With all of her heart she wanted to die rather than succumb to his demand. But, she had no choice-no choice at all! Fidel and Victoria-in their remote Central American village-are bound by fear and traditions that have held their people captive for generations. At the words of mysterious outsiders, the tiniest spark of hope ignites within Victoria's heart. But, defying a deadly taboo, Fidel and Victoria are forced into exile-evading those who seek to destroy their family. Historically, Kabbalah emerged from earlier forms of Jewish mysticism, in 12th- to 13th-century Spain and Southern France, and was reinterpreted during the Jewish mystical renaissance in 16th-century Ottoman Palestine.
