Download or read book My Musings written by Trevor Hugh Campbell and published by Christian Faith Publishing, Inc.. This book was released on 2021-08-03 with total page 138 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I am caught up in a war between the demonic forces of Satan and the good forces of God. I have chosen to be on God's side. As a result of choosing sides, my enemy becomes Satan and his forces. These demonic forces have led the world into evil and are prowling the earth for souls to capture. I live on this earth with these unseen demonic forces, and they are messing with me. The battle is for my soul to either enjoy eternal life or condemnation. I once was an enemy of God, and then I rebelled. I rebelled against Satan, the devil. I rebelled against the devil by accepting Jesus the Messiah as my Savior and, hence, was brought into the presence of God as holy and just. Subsequently, the devil personalized me as his enemy and started pursuing and harassing me. The enemy endeavors to compromise my conviction and journey to be a true disciple of Jesus. My daily focus is to be filled with the Holy Spirit and do God's will, whatever it may be. The enemy will endeavor to use all his wiles to prevent or discourage me from doing God's will. This musing is a mechanism for me to readily identify the enemy's schemes, isms, schisms and to dismiss them and focus on God's will.

Download or read book Sherlockian Musings written by Sheldon Goldfarb and published by Andrews UK Limited. This book was released on 2020-04-02 with total page 274 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Is Sherlock Holmes really as rational as he seems? He talks about the importance of reasoning and logic, but why then does he sometimes seem like a "strange Buddha"? On the other hand, why in The Sign of the Four does Watson smash a Buddha? What is going on in The Sign of the Four, that strange tale of Empire? What is going on in all the original sixty stories in "the canon"? In this study of the stories, Sheldon Goldfarb explores questions like these, from the significance of the eggs in "Thor Bridge" to the reason Watson keeps leaving Holmes for an insubstantial wife. What meanings lurk beneath the surface of these detective stories? Why is there an obsession with Napoleon in this story or an article on free trade in this other? Can we find answers to these questions? Perhaps. In any case, in this collection of essays (or "Musings") on each of the 60 stories, Dr. Goldfarb, an award-nominated mystery writer himself and the holder of a PhD in English literature, light-heartedly tries out a variety of perspectives, allowing readers to come to their own conclusions about such matters as the nature of the angel in "A Case of Identity" or the reason Holmes abandons his magnifying glass for binoculars in "Silver Blaze." Who brings binoculars to a horse race? Indeed.

Download or read book Texas My Texas written by Lonn Taylor and published by Texas A&M University Press. This book was released on 2012-03-01 with total page 237 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In a collection of essays about Texas gathered from his West Texas newspaper column, Lonn Taylor traverses the very best of Texas geography, Texas history, and Texas personalities. In a state so famous for its pride, Taylor manages to write a very honest, witty, and wise book about Texas past and Texas present. Texas, My Texas: Musings of the Rambling Boy is a story of legacies, of men and women, times, and places that have made this state what it is today. From a history of Taylor’s hometown, Fort Davis, to stories about the first man wounded in the Texas Revolution, (who was an African American), to accounts of outlaw Sam Bass and an explanation of Hill Country Christmases, Taylor has searched every corner of the state for untold histories.Taylor’s background as a former curator at the Smithsonian National Museum becomes apparent in his attention to detail: Roosevelt’s Rough Riders, artists, architects, criminals, the founder of Neiman Marcus, and the famous horned frog “Old Rip” all make appearances as quintessential Texans. Lonn Taylor’s unique narrative voice is personal. As he points out in the foreword, it is the stories of Texans themselves, of their grit and eccentricities, that have “brought the past into the present . . . the two seem to me to be bound together by stories.” People—real Texans—are the focus of the essays, making Texas, My Texas a rite of passage for anyone who claims Texan heritage. There are just a few things every good Texan “knows,” like the fact that it is illegal to pick bluebonnets along the highway, or that the Menger Hotel bar is modeled after the one in the House of Lords in London. Taylor points out with his usual wit that it is not, in fact, illegal to pick any of the six varieties of bluebonnets that grow throughout our state, and that few Texans would know that the bar is modeled after the one in the House of Lords, as few Texans are Lords. These are just a few examples of Taylor’s knowledge of Texas and his passion for its citizens.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Koran is the holy book of the Muslims and in my view it is not proper to relate it to science which is built on a framework of theories that are predictive rather than fundamental. However when reflecting or musing on its verses I have found certain resonances with the current scientific insights about our world Some such musings , reflections and resonances are proffered for the interested reader. These are my thoughts and should not be construed to be anything else. They are absolutely not intended to be explanations or explications of Quranic verses. I have written translations of some verses of the Holy Quran (translations are no substitute for the original) and then mentioned some scientific views about some subject.. Some readers like myself may find a resonance between them ,others may find none.
