Book excerpt: In 1986, when I was living in Alaska, I made my yearly Christmas trip back to visit Mother in Southern Oklahoma. While I was there, I borrowed her little recipe box and took it back to Alaska with me. There I used the office copier and made copies of her treasured recipes. I mailed the little recipe box back to her and intended to transcribe all her recipes into book form and send it to her as a gift. Well, the years went by and it seemed like with the demands on my time by the jobs I had and my preoccupation with other things, I never got around to it. As it happens in our lives, Mother passed away in 1996 and as far as I had gotten, was the putting the pages of copied recipes into a binder. Since there is no way I can gift the book to her now, the best I can do is gift this book to her family and friends as a tribute to her memory and to her fine cooking.

This book was released on 2015-01-04 with total page 198 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: After collecting recipes most of my life, I decided to get them into print so I can share them with you. There's over fifty (almost sixty) years of collecting, compiling, formatting, changing the format over and over and trying to get them just like I want them. The three-ring binders here in my tiny office space are getting fewer and fewer as each book is in print. I would like to think that once these are completed that this will all, finally, come to an end. But, knowing me, it's going to continue until I can no longer sit here and punch keys, entering yet another irresistible recipe. I suppose, in a way, it's my bucket list. I've carried these recipes, scribbled down on pieces of paper, stuck in books, and packed in boxes all over the United States with me during my many moves. Now, its time to pass them on so others can enjoy them too.

Book Apron Anxiety

Download or read book Apron Anxiety written by Alyssa Shelasky and published by Crown. This book was released on 2012-05-22 with total page 274 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “Hot sex, looking good, scoring journalistic triumphs . . . nothing made Alyssa love herself enough until she learned to cook. There's a racy plot and a surprising moral in this intimate and delicious book.” --Gael Greene, creator of Insatiable-Critic.com and author of Insatiable: Tales from a Life of Delicious Excess Apron Anxiety is the hilarious and heartfelt memoir of quintessential city girl Alyssa Shelasky and her crazy, complicated love affair with...the kitchen. Three months into a relationship with her TV-chef crush, celebrity journalist Alyssa Shelasky left her highly social life in New York City to live with him in D.C. But what followed was no fairy tale: Chef hours are tough on a relationship. Surrounded by foodies yet unable to make a cup of tea, she was displaced and discouraged. Motivated at first by self-preservation rather than culinary passion, Shelasky embarked on a journey to master the kitchen, and she created the blog Apron Anxiety (ApronAnxiety.com) to share her stories. This is a memoir (with recipes) about learning to cook, the ups and downs of love, and entering the world of food full throttle. Readers will delight in her infectious voice as she dishes on everything from the sexy chef scene to the unexpected inner calm of tying on an apron.

Tuesday is ironing, in a sunshine yellow apron that brightens Ma's spirits. And so it goes until Sunday, when Ma Dear doesn't have to wear an apron and they can set aside some special no-work time, just for themselves. In their first collaboration, Newbery Honor author Patricia McKissack and award-winninng illustrator Floyd Cooper lovingly recreate a slice of turn-of-the-century Southern life as it was for a single African-American mother and her son.

Book My Mother s House and Sido

Download or read book My Mother s House and Sido written by Colette and published by Macmillan. This book was released on 2002-06-20 with total page 250 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In My Mother's House and Sido, Colette plays fictional variations on the themes of childhood, family, and, above all, her mother. Vividly alive, fond of cities, music, theater, and books, Sido devoted herself to her village, Saint-Saveur; to her garden, with its inhabitants and its animals; and, especially, to her children, particularly her youngest, whom she called Minet-Chéri. Unlike Gigi and Chéri, which focus largely on sexual love and its repercussions, My Mother's House and Sido center on the compelling figure of a powerful, nurturing woman in late-nineteenth-century rural France, conveying the impact she had on her community and on her daughter—who grew up to be a great writer.

Anyone who uses the phrase 'easy as taking candy from a baby' has never tried taking candy from a baby."
