Book My Mental Meanderings

Download or read book My Mental Meanderings written by Gene Isom and published by Outskirts Press. This book was released on 2024-06-30 with total page 246 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: My love for my country had to have been embedded in my genes the moment I was conceived! It just had to be, because that love has never faulted, or diminished during the ninety-four years that I have served her. My Motto: Ask not what you can do for me, ask what you can do for my country. Take care of my country and my country will take care of me. I am sure my attachment to this country started with the pride I felt during first grade when I was taught to stand at attention, with my right hand over my heart saying, The Pledge of Allegiance to the flag of the United States of America. At age eleven, I then learned the Three-Fingered-Salute while in the Boy Scouts of America. Starting at the age of seventeen, I served over twenty-one years in the military. I have written over three-hundred political letters under the byline of, “From Ike’s Desk” and dozens of letters to the editors of newspapers in various cities where I have resided. The remaining years of my life have been one of firmly entrenched conservative political philosophy that will never fail me with however many years the good Lord will grant me. God Bless America, and one and all!

But when a mind sets out to wander, there are no limits as to where it can go and what it can find. The poems, short stories and anthologies in this book are musings from what I saw, felt, read and dreamt during my primary and middle school years. A reminiscence of a wandering mind to share with you. The elements, a glass of wine, innocence and love in Nazi Germany all come together in a mélange of emotions in The Meandering Mind.

Book Anna and the Tale of the Wolf

Download or read book Anna and the Tale of the Wolf written by A. C. Nicholas and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2010-11 with total page 294 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "You, my little Anna, have my blood in your veins." Nonno said proudly. You think like a Del Forno. Yes, my mother told us stories about the wolves, but never to frighten us. To us, at that time, the wolves were just a fact of life, like a storm or people you had never met before and really just didn't understand. With wolves, one needs to learn, and having learned, one needs to adapt. It all revolves around Anna. 1965- Anna Del Forno was fifteen when she and her sister visited their grandparents at the farmhouse outside of Binghamton, New York. When a storm forced them to stay longer than expected, her grandfather, a reserved, almost reclusive man began telling them a story, one that he had kept to himself since his youth in the 1920's in Sicily, with his sister Gelsamina, and the baron D'Arcamo, and the wolves. 1980- Fifteen years later, Anna finds herself returning to the now abandoned farmhouse, only to discover clues and messages that begin a journey that takes her from Binghamton, all the way to Sicily. A journey that all along, she was intended to make. Some called it a legacy, others a curse. Gelsamina, the young woman in the portrait, can only offer so many clues. The rest, Anna must discover by herself. And yet, Gelsamina is always there, sharing a meal, sharing what she knows, sharing the legacy. And when she hears the wolves howling l'anelito, the longing, Anna understands what she must do. There comes a point in time when, wanted or not, ones family gives them things. There also comes a time when one must accept them.

Book American Genius A Comedy

Download or read book American Genius A Comedy written by Lynne Tillman and published by Catapult. This book was released on 2019-02-01 with total page 243 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Grand and minute, elegiac and hilarious, Lynne Tillman expands the possibilities of the American novel in this dazzling read about a former historian ruminating on her own life and the lives of others--named a best book of the century by Vulture. In the hypnotic, masterful American Genius, A Comedy, a former historian spending time in a residential home, mental institute, artist’s colony, or sanitarium, is spinning tales of her life and ruminating on her many and varied preoccupations: chair design, textiles, pet deaths, family trauma, a lost brother, the Manson family, the Zulu alphabet, loneliness, memory, and sensitive skin--and what “sensitivity” means in our culture and society. Showing what might happen if Jane Austen were writing in 21st-century America, Tillman fashions a microcosm of American democracy: a scholarly colony functioning like Melville's Pequod. All this is folded into the narrator's memories and emotional life, culminating in a seance that may offer escape and transcendence--or perhaps nothing at all. This new edition of a contemporary classic features an introduction by novelist Lucy Ives.

After she discovers a jewel-encrusted dagger—with what appears to be dried blood on the blade—on their fishing boat, they share their family history with Kelly, and she learns that the knife may be part of a set from their long-ago childhood in Russia. Its sudden reappearance is eerie, but the mystery grows much more serious when a body is found on the boat. The victim was a member of the community and part of the Russian Heritage Festival, and some of the organizers were clearly harboring some bitterness. Book The Most Wanted Series 3 Book Bundle

Download or read book The Most Wanted Series 3 Book Bundle written by J. Kenner and published by Bantam. This book was released on 2016-02-02 with total page 1088 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: New York Times bestselling author J. Kenner follows up her breathtaking Stark Trilogy with three sizzling standalone novels featuring unforgettable alpha males—and the seductive games they play. This is the series that led RT Book Reviews to proclaim, “Kenner may very well have cornered the market on sinfully attractive, dominant antiheroes and the women who swoon for them.” Now all three installments are available in one addictive ebook bundle: WANTED He is everything I crave, all I desperately want—and he is everything I can’t have. Evan Black embodies my every fantasy. He is brilliant, fierce, and devastatingly handsome. But he is also headstrong, dangerous, and burdened with secrets. My family warned me to stay away, that I could never handle Evan’s dark dealings or scarred past. Maybe I should have listened. Maybe I should have run. But our desire is undeniable, and some temptations you just can’t fight. And from the moment we touch—the passion between us consuming us both—I know that I will never be the same. HEATED I knew better than to risk my heart. But fierce passion comes at a high price. I grew up believing in right and wrong, good and evil, black and white. I knew better than to trust. And then I met Tyler Sharp. Bold, charming, and dangerously sexy, Tyler always gets what he wants. But his smile can be deceiving, his dealings sordid, his ambitions ruthless. I thought I was the one woman strong enough to resist him, but our need for each other was too urgent to deny. One look and I was in trouble. One touch and I was hooked. One night and I became his. And now that I’ve fallen, there’s no going back. IGNITED He promised to take me as far as I could go—and I wanted to go to the edge. My whole life has been a cover, a con, a lie. I was born into the grift, raised on the thrill of playing someone I’m not. As a rule, I never let anyone get too close—until Cole August makes it impossible for me to stay away. Cole is tough, sexy, and intensely loyal, yet his secrets are dark and his scars run deep. Not many women can handle his past, or the truth behind his fierce demands. But something about him beckons me—and our desire is a game I must play. I know he’s dangerous, that even his touch is trouble, but what is passion without a little risk? Praise for the Most Wanted series “Wanted is another J. Kenner masterpiece. . . . This was an intriguing look at self-discovery and forbidden love all wrapped into a neat little action suspense package. There was plenty of sexual tension and eventually action. Evan was hot, hot, hot! Together, they were combustible. But can we expect anything less from J. Kenner?”—Reading Haven “A steamy story with a dark edge. Recommended for those seeking crime drama with spice.”—Library Journal, on Heated “[Kenner’s] characters’ scorching, scandalous affair explores the very nature of attraction and desire, redeeming and changing them beyond measure.”—RT Book Reviews, on Heated “Ignited delivers both scorching hot scenes along with the evolution and unpeeling of emotional barriers built by past dark secrets. Moreover, the characters are complex, the passion is intense and the ultimate message that love can heal all is inspiring.”—The Romance Reviews (five stars) The Most Wanted series is intended for mature audiences.

The peace that Lili first found in Walden Corners is hard to find lately: the townspeople are violently divided over plans for a casino. Even Lili’s friends are at odds, and she’s starting to wonder if her beautiful new life is in jeopardy.
