So beings this tale of Harry Temple, a young man not yet out of his teens. The two ladies, a mother and a daughter of some standing in society, show their gratitude to Harry in a most educative manner. In one of the most extraordinary nights of his life, Harry is introduced to an astonishing array of amorous delights, the like of which had never entered his lustful thoughts. Interspersed with the account of his sport with the two lovely women are tales of how they lost their Victorian prudishments and came to appreciate the refinements of carnal pleasure.

Book excerpt: "Passing one night along a rather unfrequented thoroughfare I was fortunate enough to rescue two ladies from the grasp of a couple of roughs who had bailed them up intent on plunder. A quick dash and a hurried blow or two sent them off in a flurry and I turned to reassure the distressed beauties. One was a lady of ripe charms, with flowing figure and a face still handsome and attractive. The other was a charming girl of about nineteen, who proved to be her daughter. The elder woman, still well under forty, looked desirable enough to give any fellow a satisfactory ****stand. I hadn't the least idea, however, of the good fortune that awaited me."

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When young Harry gallantly comes to the rescue of two woman, helpless at the hands of two ruffians intent on plundering and ravaging their persons, daughter Rose and mother Ethel are only too willing to invite their young hero back to their redbrick mansion for a grand display of gratitude. Much to his surprise, Harry soon finds his personage wedged between the two globes of Ethel's substantial bosom, with Rose's tongue in his mouth, and a dainty finger in his... oh my. What follows is a two day display of Bacchanalian proportions as Harry is made "to spend" numerously and variously for mistress, maiden, and even maids. This raucous tale of revelry and debauchery tips a fine hat to the excesses of the enlightened sexual freedom and abandon of post-Victorian England's high society, far from prudish and further from proper. Written by the pseudonymous "Ramrod", published in 1911, and containing graphic descriptions of all manner of deed and device, 'My Lustful Adventures' will be sure to titillate and tantalise today as it did over 100 years ago.

Book Clandestine Erotic Fiction in English 1800 1930

Download or read book Clandestine Erotic Fiction in English 1800 1930 written by Peter Mendes and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-12-05 with total page 548 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This work offers bibliographical descriptions of all printings of erotic fiction in English issued clandestinely during the period 1800-1930. By 'clandestine' is meant books whose publishers and printers attempt to hide their identities, usually by offering title pages whose misleading places and dates of publication may shock and amuse, but which always aim to mystify. Using internal and external evidence, an attempt is made to establish who were the printers, booksellers and publishers, English and Continental, involved in this trade. The printing families or 'groups' into which a large percentage of the material falls are classified, accompanied by illustrations which identify the main printing characteristics ('house styles') of the groups. Bibliographical descriptions follow a checklist of clandestine catalogues; these provide valuable evidence for dating, pricing and 'sales pitch' and information on items of which no copies can now be traced. The work concludes with a series of appendices which provide significant external evidence, and three indexes: of themes, titles and names. Peter Mendes' original research builds on and significantly extends the essential pioneer work of the Victorian collector and bibliographer H.S. Ashbee ('Pisanus Fraxi').

Book The War on Sex

    Book Details:
  • Author : Chad Denton
  • Publisher : McFarland
  • Release : 2014-11-19
  • ISBN : 0786495049
  • Pages : 291 pages

Download or read book The War on Sex written by Chad Denton and published by McFarland. This book was released on 2014-11-19 with total page 291 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From earliest times, sex has fascinated and repulsed society in equal measure. In an effort to untangle Western society's complex relationship with the realities of sex, this provocative volume explores the ways in which governments, religious leaders and cultures in Europe tried to regulate sex and sexuality throughout history. From the sacred texts of ancient Israel to the slums of 19th century Britain, this book explores political, legal and cultural controls on consensual sex and the individuals and movements that resisted them. Topics range from prostitution and homosexuality to marriage, contraception and abortion. While traditional narrative holds that Europe alternated between sexual freedom and oppression through the Victorian age, this work reveals that the real story of how sex was regulated--and how people defied regulation--is not so clear cut.

Book A Study of Erotic Literature in England

Download or read book A Study of Erotic Literature in England written by W. v. Murat and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2019-09-24 with total page 209 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The present work fills a gap as it attempts to offer a history of erotic literature published in the United Kingdom. The word Study in the title is perhaps a bit exaggerated as the material is largely taken from the now well known bibliographies by Pisanus Fraxi (Henry Spencer Ashbee) and quotations from the books themselves. The time line is WW II. Who was the author? He may have been Charles Reginald Dawes (1879-1964) who is supposed to have written (but not published) a text of this or a similar title. His profession or his activities are not known - he once called himself a writer but library catalogues credit him only with two publications: The Marquis de Sade (Paris 1927) and Retif de la Bretonne (London 1946, privately printed). He may have been a popular writer under pseudonyms, though. Dawes owned a good erotica collection which he willed to the British Museum Library; that would explain why the author of this Study - if he was Dawes - could quote freely from erotic texts which only few of his contemporaries would have had available. The main merits of this book are that the author was thoroughly familiar with English (and French) erotic literature and that he put his material in chronological order and in context. The editor added a number of references, illustrations and indices of personal names and titles to facilitate navigation.

Book excerpt: Selected by a poll of more than 180 Gothic specialists (creative writers, professors, critics, and Gothic Studies program developers at universities), the fifty-three original works discussed in 21st-Century Gothic represent the most impressive Gothic novels written around the world between 2000-2010. The essays in this volume discuss the merits of these novels, highlighting the influences and key components that make them worthy of inclusion. Many of the pioneer voices of Gothic Studies, as well as other key critics of the field, have all contributed new essays to this volume, including David Punter, Jerrold Hogle, Karen F. Stein, Marie Mulvey-Roberts, Mary Ellen Snodgrass, Tony Magistrale, Don D'Ammassa, Mavis Haut, Walter Rankin, James Doig, Laurence A. Rickels, Douglass H. Thomson, Sue Zlosnik, Carol Margaret Davision, Ruth Bienstock Anolik, Glennis Byron, Judith Wilt, Bernice Murphy, Darrell Schweitzer, and June Pulliam. Sharing their knowledge of how traditional Gothic elements and tensions surface in a changed way within a contemporary novel, the contributors enhance the reader's dark enjoyment, emotional involvement, and appreciation of these works. These essays show not only how each of these novels are Gothic but also how they advance or change Gothicism, making the works both irresistible for readers and establishing their place in the Gothic canon.

Book The History of the Adventures of Vivi and Vera

Download or read book The History of the Adventures of Vivi and Vera written by Dung Kai-cheung (董啟章) and published by Hong Kong University Press. This book was released on 2018-06-06 with total page 563 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Award-winning author Dung Kai-cheung weaves together two inventive narratives in this remarkable book. One is the story of a novelist who recounts his family’s history against the backdrop of Hong Kong’s development from the 1930s to the 1990s. Dung builds this story through vignettes about the protagonist’s relationship with technological inventions that shaped his life, as glimpsed through his uncertain memory and family myths. Running parallel to this is a rebellion by the novelist’s oppressed fictional characters, who attempt to break the yoke of servile obedience laid upon them by the conventions of novel-writing. The central character, Vivi, has been written into being by the author and, once created, she seems to take on a life of her own and moves from being fabricated to being real, even bravely undertaking the journey to meet her creator—the novelist—in the real world. Fantasy and realism combine to suggest that crossing boundaries is inherent part of our nature. “Dung Kai-cheung is the most important writer of contemporary Hong Kong. Since the end of the last century, his work has constituted an alternative history of Hong Kong: the city’s splendor and dilemma, its fantastic metamorphoses and uncanny fate. The History of the Adventures of Vivi and Vera represents Dung at his best. The novel chronicles the changes and continuities of Hong Kong in the final decades of colonial rule, and projects a futuristic vision in which postcolonial nostalgia meets postmodernist fantasia, and family romance begets science fantasy. Above all, Dung seeks to inscribe Hong Kong as fiction, and celebrate the power of creativity that is Hong Kong.” —David Der-wei Wang, Edward C. Henderson Professor of Chinese Literature at Harvard University “Dung Kai-cheung is Hong Kong’s most prolific and innovative contemporary novelist. His work is at once playful and challenging, brilliant and imaginative, and filled with a sense of mystery and discovery. The first volume in Dung’s acclaimed ‘Natural History’ trilogy, The History of the Adventures of Vivi and Vera is nothing short of a qishu, or ‘book of wonder.’ Freely navigating different times and spaces, people and objects, autobiographies and fictions, Dung Kai-cheung has written a new allegory for our troubled times.” —Michael Berry, Professor of Contemporary Chinese Cultural Studies at UCLA, author of Speaking in Images and A History of Pain
