Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since very little in our lives seems to be making sense, we could take a sip down the madness lane. The book is a blast of humour meld with delicious ironies. The narrator stitches madness into his bumpy stories on the premise, "You have only a little spark of madness. You must not lose it." The fiction work palms off madness as a virtue, as priceless as sensibility. Although present in a tiny core, the sense of madness very often misses a lasting chance. The narrative dives deep enough to prove that if wisdom ever existed in the likeness of a double-edged sword, its two edges would be none other than the madness and sensibility. The narrator fly opens a narrow window to play mockery at the sad state of affairs. The serious aspects of the life of a middle - aged man, goes truly underrated. The writer seeks to add a fresh perspective to the typical problematics that are more than one in a day-to-day life. Though written in the format of diary entries, the sensual shock that each following line sends down the spine is inconceivable, until read. The characters inside the book are those people who will stay with you, even long after you keep the book down. As the story progresses, one character turns out to be a greater evil than the other. Even so, in a rare event a reader who duly sympathizes with the characters, after fleeting moments, would withdraw his sympathy and curse them instead. The writer upends on the paper, with the alarming yet promising hope that many episodes of bumpy rides are yet to be relished. So, curiouser and curiouser!

Book excerpt: When I was going through an ugly divorce, and as my father was passing away, friends and family would ask, "How do you cope and maintain your sanity?" Of course I would get upset and feel the same pressure as anyone else, but I knew I must try to maintain my composure, so that I could work through my problems, and interact with those around me, especially the ones directly involved with the situation. At one time or another, every person is faced with some type of dilemma; even during your worst times and most unpleasant situations, you realize that there are millions of people that are faced daily with much worse conditions and situations than you are. I hope this book will be an encouragement to each reader, and give hope and confidence to believe and know that bad times do not last forever. Cultivate determination to work hard, and always do your best. God has given everyone some kind of talent or gift, and He will never leave you. You must never lose sight of the basic truth; even when life's road is bumpy and hard, remember that when you get to whatever hard time life faces you with, God will get you through it.

Book A Soft Landing after a Bumpy Ride

Download or read book A Soft Landing after a Bumpy Ride written by Charles E. Ortloff and published by WestBow Press. This book was released on 2023-08-15 with total page 131 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Most of our time is spent with the outer life -- our jobs, our friends and families, our hobbies, or our health. We spend much less time with the inner life, that place of feelings and thoughts, anger and love, hopes and dreams. When we do spend time with the inner life, it can often be overwhelming and disruptive, taking over our lives with feelings of hopelessness and fear or with endless ruminations about our past and worries about our future. In the practices of this book, we learn how to make friends with our inner life, to reconnect with ourselves, others, our world, and with God. We learn to have productive conversations with three specific inner voices: our separated self who lives in a world of scarcity and fear, our connected self who lives in an expansive world of abundance and compassion, and the watcher who stands apart from all the conflicting conversations going on in the inner life. The watcher decides how then shall we live. With a little time and some practice, we can bring our inner turmoil to a peaceful resolution and live a life that is safe, joyful, focused, and filled with compassion.

Book excerpt: Ralph, the boy with a dream, is not aware that his determination will be tested to its limits. The early thrills do not give him a clue of what's in store. Just when he thinks he's got it all under control he nearly hits rock bottom. He is about to pack his bags when experienced elders put sense into him, and he begins to see that there might be light at the end of the tunnel. Only later, some years into his adult life, he seems to have sussed out that it's not all hunky-dory and that possibly it might be a case of `the enemy within'. It still hasn't sunk into him that it's not about fair play but about a different sort of a game. Are there no rules to play by, or can some always play foul? Ralph unravels this mind-blowing tale of uncertainties and of life at the cross-roads in absorbing descriptions. `The story is a gripping tale of human endeavour and survival,' says an experienced Indian psychologist. `The situations described,' says an American journalist, `offer guideposts to Managers floundering at the deep end of decision-making.' `It's a double-decker inspirational package for training,' says a British educationist.

This book was released on 2021-03-29 with total page 47 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is about my life. I was born in 1964 in Georgia. We moved a lot. My parents were very strict-well, to me, anyway. I could not wear shorts or even put my hair up. If I ask to put on makeup, my mother said no. I was hit in the head with a brush when my parents would fight. My mother would pull my hair when she was mad. I guess you could say I had a bad childhood. I was slapped so hard I hit the wall. I was raped at the age of nine. I saw my mother trying to kill herself. I was in a burning house at the age of two. My dad would buy me and my brothers stuff. The boys got theirs, but I was told I would get mine next week, but I didn't get it. I think my mother was jealous of me.Well, after we moved to Jackson, things were better. We had a lot of friends, and we went swimming, played ball, went to Indian Springs State Park, walked in a pasture, and meet the Bowens. We were like a family. My uncle was killed in 1979. That's when I left and meet James. He played Santa for my little sister Tanya because she would not go to sleep. We got married in 1982, then we had Becky and then Brenda in 1984. Then in 1986, Bud was born. I learned what it was like to be a mother. We would go to church every Saturday. One day, we didn't go, but later that night, an angel came and said, "Go to church," so we did.The preacher said, "I knew you were coming. The angel told me."As time went on, we went through James's drinking, going to jail, going to rehab, the births of our grandkids, the death of our granddaughter, death of our son, James going over the deep end, and now the birth of our great-grandkid, and the love of God, friends, and family.

Book Reflections of a Peacemaker

Download or read book Reflections of a Peacemaker written by Mattie J.T. Stepanek and published by Andrews McMeel Publishing. This book was released on 2010-04-22 with total page 460 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mattie J. T. Stepanek lived and died a child, but he had the spirit of a giant. Affected by a rare and fatal neuromuscular disease, Mattie lived almost fourteen years but in that time became a poet, best-selling author, peace activist, and a prominent voice for the Muscular Dystrophy Association. Before his death in June 2004, his five volumes of Heartsongs poetry sold more than a million copies. Reflections of a Peacemaker: A Portrait Through Heartsongs is the final collection of Heartsongs that Mattie was working on when he died. It includes the last poem Mattie penned along with a special collection of unpublished poetry, photographs, and artwork spanning the decade from when he began writing Heartsongs at age three. Culled from the thousands of poems, essays, and journal entries Mattie left behind, the entries in Reflections of a Peacemaker create a portrait of Mattie in his own words. In these poems he explores disability, despair, and death but also the gifts he finds in nature, prayer, peace, and his belief in something "bigger and better than the here and now." The poems are grouped by theme such as playful, stormy, sacred, and final Heartsongs, with each section introduced by a personal tribute from the likes of Maya Angelou, Oprah Winfrey, Larry King, and former President Jimmy Carter. In the words of Mattie's mother, Jeni Stepanek, who has published Reflections of a Peacemaker at her son's request, "In reading these poems we enter Mattie's world and gain insight through a child who somehow balanced pain and fear with optimism and faith."
