Book My Karma My Fault

Download or read book My Karma My Fault written by Daniel Lutz and published by Daniel Lutz. This book was released on 2013-12-31 with total page 145 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Daniel Lutz, at 31, has proven himself stronger than he imagined. He tells the story of his transformation from victim to survivor in his book, My Karma, My Fault. Born in Germany in 1979, Daniel moved to Finland as a toddler, where his parents joined the Hare Krishna movement. When he was 5, his family moved to the Hare Krishna community in Almviks Gård, Sweden, where they settled into a converted storage container with no insulation, running water, or toilet, and an entirely foreign lifestyle that got them up every day at 4 a.m. for temple services and gave them new Sanskrit names. Soon after, Daniel, now Devavrata, and his then 7-year-old sister were enrolled in the community's boarding school. That's when Daniel's nightmare began. Without realizing it, his parents had placed him in the care of a sadistic pedophile teacher, and Daniel spent the next 3 years of his life being sexually and physically assaulted. Threatened and silenced, young Daniel's behavior deteriorated, and his family was asked to leave the community. Daniel and his family moved back to the Hare Krishna temple in Finland, where, after brief attendance at a local public school, Daniel was sent alone to the Hare Krishna boarding school in Mayapur, India. There, Daniel was again subjected to sexual and physical abuse, this time at the hands of older students. My Karma, My Fault takes us through the rest of Daniel's anguished childhood and teenage years, probes his innocent faith and the loss of it, and brings us into his adulthood, where he finally finds normalcy and at least a measure of peace. It took Daniel years to get to the point where he could write this book and two years to compose it. It is not the story of a victim but of one who has survived.

Book Pratikraman The Key that resolves all Conflicts

Download or read book Pratikraman The Key that resolves all Conflicts written by Dada Bhagwan and published by Dada Bhagwan Foundation. This book was released on 2015-05-02 with total page 664 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Those seeking to lead a spiritual life inevitably face challenges in their sincere pursuit of spirituality and practice. As spiritual development progresses, facing the many unintentional mistakes made through mind, speech, and conduct can become disconcerting. Naturally one begins to wonder, “Is it too late to apologize?”, “How to forgive and forget in unhealthy relationships?” and, “How to forgive yourself - both for mistakes of the past and for ongoing mistakes in the present?” One of the most powerful tools for spiritual healing of both past and present is repentance with sincere apology. Yet, among the many spiritual books available today, it is rare to find a scripture on forgiveness. In the book “Pratikraman”, Gnani Purush (embodiment of Self knowledge) Dada Bhagwan describes the spiritual power of forgiveness prayer, and offers a precise formula for asking for forgiveness. This extended version of Dadashri’s book “Pratikraman: Freedom Through Apology & Repentance” allows anyone seeking to practice spiritual forgiveness prayer to gain a profound understanding about how to repent, how to forgive someone, and how to begin forgiving yourself. This book is an invaluable resource for spirituality and health.

Download or read book Found written by Jennifer Lauck and published by Seal Press. This book was released on 2011-03-01 with total page 272 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Found is Jennifer Lauck's sequel to her New York Times bestseller Blackbird: A Childhood Lost and Found. More than one woman’s search for her biological parents, Found is a story of loss, adjustment, and survival. Lauck’s investigation into her own troubled past leads her to research that shows the profound trauma undergone by infants when they’re separated from their birth mothers—a finding that provides a framework for her writing as well as her life. Though Lauck’s story is centered around her search for her birth mother, it’s also about her quest to overcome her displacement, her desire to please and fit in, and her lack of a sense of self—all issues she attributes to having been adopted, and also to having lost her adoptive parents at the early age of nine. Throughout her thirties and early forties, she tries to overcome her struggles by becoming a mother and by pursuing a spiritual path she hopes will lead to wholeness, but she discovers that the elusive peace she has been seeking can only come through investigating—and coming to terms with—her past. Found is a powerful story of belonging, connectedness, and personal truths, in which Lauck lays bare the experience of a woman searching for her identity. Her assertions about mother and child will be a comfort to some in the adoptive community, and distressing to others; but her primary motive is to offer another perspective, and to give voice to the adoptive children who may be having trouble making sense of their own experience.

Winner of the 2022 Booker Prize, The Seven Moons of Maali Almeida is a searing satire set amid the mayhem of the Sri Lankan civil war. Colombo, 1990. Maali Almeida—war photographer, gambler, and closet queen—has woken up dead in what seems like a celestial visa office. His dismembered body is sinking in the serene Beira Lake and he has no idea who killed him. In a country where scores are settled by death squads, suicide bombers, and hired goons, the list of suspects is depressingly long, as the ghouls and ghosts with grudges who cluster round can attest. But even in the afterlife, time is running out for Maali. He has seven moons to contact the man and woman he loves most and lead them to the photos that will rock Sri Lanka. Ten years after his prize-winning novel Chinaman established him as one of Sri Lanka’s foremost authors, Shehan Karunatilaka is back with a “thrilling satire” (Economist) and rip-roaring state-of-the-nation epic that offers equal parts mordant wit and disturbing, profound truths.

Work-whether it's in the home or at an office-is what mostly runs our lives. We depend on it to eat, to clothe and shelter ourselves, and to take care of our families. Beginning with a direct correlation between productivity and happiness, Dr. Cutler questions His Holiness about the nature of work. In psychiatry and according to the Dalai Lama, our motivation for working determines our level of satisfaction. The book explores three levels of focus: survival, career, and calling. Once again, Cutler walks us through the Dalai Lama's reasoning so that we know how to apply the wisdom to daily life. This practical application of Buddhist ideas is an invaluable source of strength and peace for anyone who earns a living.

Book Monkey Bridge

  • Pages : 272 pages

Download or read book Monkey Bridge written by Lan Cao and published by Penguin. This book was released on 1998-06-01 with total page 272 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hailed by critics and writers as powerful, important fiction, Monkey Bridge charts the unmapped territory of the Vietnamese American experience in the aftermath of war. Like navigating a monkey bridge—a bridge, built of spindly bamboo, used by peasants for centuries—the narrative traverses perilously between worlds past and present, East and West, in telling two interlocking stories: one, the Vietnamese version of the classic immigrant experience in America, told by a young girl; and the second, a dark tale of betrayal, political intrigue, family secrets, and revenge—her mother's tale. The haunting and beautiful terrain of Monkey Bridge is the "luminous motion," as it is called in Vietnamese myth and legend, between generations, encompassing Vietnamese lore, history, and dreams of the past as well as of the future. "With incredible lightness, balance and elegance," writes Isabel Allende, "Lan Cao crosses over an abyss of pain, loss, separation and exile, connecting on one level the opposite realities of Vietnam and North America, and on a deeper level the realities of the material world and the world of the spirits." • Quality Paperback Book Club Selection and New Voices Award nominee • A Kiriyama Pacific Rim Award Book Prize nominee
