Rideout recounts how scared she was in those early days with a brutal honesty. She takes her audience along with her as she makes daily attempts to reconcile her new normal with the gut-wrenching fear that a cancer diagnosis brings. In sharing her story, Rideout demonstrates how important it is to be surrounded with love, family, and friendship and how a positive attitude can be just as important in the healing process as any medication. Book excerpt: A story of a seemingly healthy and vital individual that is suddenly told he has stage 4 bladder cancer with the likelihood that his life might end within six to eight months. How can you even grasp the idea that your life may be ending so soon, how do you share this shattering news with your family and friends? The story describes the different emotions that the writer experienced from shock to anxiety, fear and even hope. Once the news is shared the author describes how people treat you differently. Yet their continuing support is vital to your daily outlook and any hope for recovery. Suggestions are offered from family and friends on why this may happen and how to overcome the emotional response. The Journey was not simple, the kidney had been badly damaged and there was various treatments and procedures attempted to try and return the kidney function but it ultimately had to be removed. During this time it was determined that additional lymph nodes were involved, the cancer had metastasized, a word no patient wants to hear. It just seemed all news was bad news. Next steps were on to cancer treatment. After several years the chemotherapy was not successful and it seemed the end was in sight. But fortunately a clinical trial became available and the patient was accepted. After the trial ended tests revealed there were not any measurable cancerous tumors. Success! And the author lived to share his story. Written in a journal format with the intention of helping provide guidance for others that may be diagnosed with a "terminal" illness, their family and friends. Comments from the medical professionals that provided care along with detailed analysis of the various tests and treatments are included to help young people preparing for a healthcare career understand the criticality of interaction with the patient. As one reviewer commented "An inspiring story of physical fortitude, resiliency and spiritual stamina in an effort to live life. A tribute to a family who offered support through emotional ups and downs with courage love and support."

Book A Walk with God

Download or read book A Walk with God written by David C Fuller and published by Olive Press Publisher. This book was released on 2021-06-06 with total page 190 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: CANCER - The mere mention of this word invokes fear or dread. Most would not include the words adventure, joy, peace, or gratitude to describe their emotional reaction. This book is about a journey "through" cancer and the experiences encountered. There are: times of confusion and times of clarity times of pain and times of comfort feelings of helplessness and those of being blessed The author says, "All through the journey, I have been guided by God's whispers keeping me grounded in the knowledge that He desires full and complete recovery in my life and yours." This is a journey of joy and frustration which will hopefully bring you peace, increase your faith, and give you a different perspective and attitude as you get this glimpse into how cancer effects a person's life. The author has been blessed with a positive attitude along with an unconventional sense of humor. These two things, along with his unshakable faith, enabled him to traverse the pitfalls that come so that healing could be possible. Join him on this journey. He says to you as God said to him in the beginning, "Let's go for a walk together." Endorsements: Dave's honest, practical and inspiring journey proves there is an optimism that is more than merely human. I am tempted to re-title it, FULLER FAITH (pun intended). It brought back warm memories of when he and Marilyn lovingly sat alongside me in a waiting room while my wife was in extensive surgery for a metastasized cancer. Their compassion for people is genuine and enduring. Romans 15:13 says, "May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit." Dave's life and words are an uplifting answer to that ancient prayer. Mike Weber, friend and pastor Dave's unique and vivid retelling from cancer diagnosis to "survivor" is both warm and inspiring! A gifted story teller, Dave walks the reader through the undulating emotional journey he faced-and we face-as cancer patients. Through it all Dave's story is a reminder that anything is possible-even in the most difficult of times and through the most difficult of circumstances-with faith and courage. Highly recommend.
