Book excerpt: My life was full of many unexpected experiences. Some were good, and some were bad. During that time of war, mostly bad times occurred more often than good times. Those good times didnt last longer. I think there is a reason why things happen to people, and as always there are results afterward, either good or bad. My hope all these years of war in South Sudan was that someday, there would be a joyful moment for me as the outcome of my horrible suffering. I do not have many good times to remember in my past life since the day I left South Sudan until the day I arrived in the United States of America. However, even then still, I always felt like I was missing something. Of course, indeed, part of me is missing: my whole family was not with me. I never gave up on myself when I was in that horrible situation. I resisted the pain I was facing. I wish of no ravage that I should do against my foes for what they did to me. I wish for the bad day to get over and hope for better tomorrow. I never except the weakness to engage my mind. Instead, I wish to preach the word of peace to my enemies for the sake of freedom in order to save the lives of the innocent. I wish to just speak out only the word of unification. I want to make the world aware of the war situation that was going on in my hometown and convey peace among the people and avoid more lives to be lost. War is wrong; we are all human beings with only one common goal: the soul. However, the only message you should be saying to your enemies is peace. Bear in mind that when you are torturing someone, you are torturing yourself as well. You might not feel it physically but emotionally, maybe not at the moment, but afterward, in the near future, when peace comes and when justice prevails. My parents used to tell me not to be afraid but to brave and strong. The fear one is the one got kill first in battle because they panic and run randomly into ambush.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "A great story of a lost world. Having seen that world disappear in recent years, it was quite a treat to go on this journey. One of a time and place long gone, but not forgotten. Long before the Disneyfication of modern day Hollywood, it was a run down and left behind wasteland, dangerous, lively, unbounded and free. Where the disenfranchised outcasts, rejected children of the dysfunctional working class, came to find their place, their peace of mind. Roving the tattered shadows and crooked sidewalks of the boulevard, drinking, raising Hell for Hell's sake, looking for action, music, love, inebriation, acceptance, and family, while the rest of the world droned on in mind-numbing normalcy. Adam Wilson's first-hand account of life as a punk in the streets of Los Angeles, the gangs that stuck together for unity, solidarity, and what little they had to fight for, is a powerful and unsung testimonial, well worth reading. Learn what LA was really made of. Read his all telling tale, an honest and open account of a time and place, not likely to ever see the light of day again." Christiaan Angelo Pasquale

He still uses these methods to communicate with us today--all we have to do is listen. My Journey is a collection of revelations the Lord has given Linda Walker over the years. Some of these prophetic words offered direction or warning, while others were simply messages of love from the heavenly Father to His beloved child. Although Linda did not immediately understand some of these messages, looking back she can clearly see how God used each word to keep her on the right path. God speaks to each of us in unique ways. Book excerpt: Lying in a hospital bed, José P. Ramirez, Jr. (b. 1948) almost lost everything because of a misunderstood disease. When the health department doctor gave him the Handbook for Persons with Leprosy, Ramirez learned his fate. Such a diagnosis in 1968 meant exile and hospitalization in the only leprosarium in the continental United States—Carville, Louisiana, 750 miles from his home in Laredo, Texas. In Squint: My Journey with Leprosy, Ramirez recalls being taken from his family in a hearse and thrown into a world filled with fear. He and his loved ones struggled against the stigma associated with the term “leper” and against beliefs that the disease was a punishment from God, that his illness was highly communicable, and that persons with Hansen's disease had to be banished from their communities. His disease not only meant separation from the girlfriend who would later become his wife, but also a derailment of all life's goals. In his struggle Ramirez overcame barriers both real and imagined and eventually became an international advocate on behalf of persons with disabilities. In Squint, titled for the sliver of a window through which persons with leprosy in medieval times were allowed to view Mass but not participate, Ramirez tells a story of love and perseverance over incredible odds.

Book My Journey to the Stars

Download or read book My Journey to the Stars written by Scott Kelly and published by Penguin. This book was released on 2017-10-17 with total page 28 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this debut autobiographical picture book, celebrated astronaut Scott Kelly describes how he -- and his twin brother -- grew up to achieve his dream of becoming an astronaut. As Scott Kelly prepares to blast back to Earth after a record-breaking year spent on the International Space Station, he thinks about what brought him here and what awaits him at home. Scott's partner-in-crime is his twin brother, Mark. They spent their childhood getting in and out of scrapes. They had a talent for finding trouble and taking risks, which turned out to be great training for the biggest risk of all -- space travel. Along the way to becoming astronauts, they learned to be peacemakers, to stay calm in the toughest of times, to support their family, to work hard and take small steps towards their goals. Scott learned that he needed people to believe in him, as his principal did, even though he was at first a terrible student who couldn't sit still. All of these skills served him well during his year on the ISS, where he and his crew ran 400 experiments and he himself became a test subject. The sacrifices Scott made, the dangers he faced and the sight of our beautiful planet from space made coming home even sweeter.

Book My Journey to Heaven

Download or read book My Journey to Heaven written by Marvin J. Besteman and published by Baker Books. This book was released on 2012-09-01 with total page 156 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: On April 28, 2006, as he lay in his hospital bed in Ann Arbor, Michigan, visions of celestial beauty were the last thing on Marv Besteman's mind. He had just had surgery to remove a rare pancreatic tumor. It was after visiting hours and his family had left for the day. Alone and racked with pain, Marv tossed and turned, wanting more than anything else to simply sleep and escape the misery and discomfort for a while. The retired banker, father, and grandfather had no idea he was about to get a short reprieve in the form of an experience he never could have imagined. In My Journey to Heaven, Marv Bestman shares the story of his experience of heaven with astounding detail. Readers will hear of his encounters with angels who accompanied him to the gate, his conversation (argument, really) with St. Peter, and his recognition of friends and family members who touched his life. His story offers peace, comfort, and encouragement to those who have lost loved ones and gives security and solace to those who are grieving, dying, or wonder about the afterlife. Marv believed God sent him back to earth to fulfill this mission of comfort and reminds readers that God has work for each of us to do before he calls us to be with him in heaven. Secure in his belief that his book was the fulfillment of his own mission, Marv returned to heaven in January 2012.
