My favorite holidays are the ones that we end the year with; Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas and these are the shorts that are in the book. • Author : Wendy E. Simmons
  • Publisher : Rosetta Books

  • Pages : 245 pages

Download or read book My Holiday in North Korea written by Wendy E. Simmons and published by Rosetta Books. This book was released on 2016-05-03 with total page 245 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “You remember Eat, Pray, Love and Under the Tuscan Sun? Yeah, this really isn’t like those. It’s better” (San Francisco Chronicle). Most people want out of North Korea. Wendy Simmons wanted in. In My Holiday in North Korea: The Funniest/Worst Place on Earth, Wendy shares a glimpse of North Korea as it’s never been seen before. Even though it’s the scariest place on Earth, somehow Wendy forgot to check her sense of humor at the border. But Wendy’s initial amusement and bewilderment soon turned to frustration and growing paranoia. Before long, she learned the essential conundrum of “tourism” in North Korea: Travel is truly a love affair. But, just like love, it’s a two-way street. And North Korea deprives you of all this. They want you to fall in love with the singular vision of the country they’re willing to show you and nothing more. Through poignant, laugh-out-loud essays and ninety-two never-before-published color photographs of North Korea, Wendy chronicles one of the strangest vacations ever. Along the way, she bares all while undergoing an inner journey as convoluted as the country itself. “Much of the humor and poignancy comes from the absurdity of a fun-loving free spirit taking a vacation that’s more rigidly scripted and controlled than a presidential motorcade . . . Simmons’ photos—including an eerie image of a classroom full of schoolgirls playing accordions—further illustrate the bizarre nature of a country that, whether for good or bad, has been carefully controlled for generations.” —San Francisco Chronicle “An irresistible read . . . A rare and fascinating look at the tourist’s North Korea in a work that is humorous, appalling, and very sad. A highly recommended and revealing glimpse into a secretive land.” —Library Journal

Book Perennial Seller

Download or read book Perennial Seller written by Ryan Holiday and published by Penguin. This book was released on 2017-07-18 with total page 258 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book that Inc. says "every entrepreneur should read" and an FT Book of the Month selection... How did the movie The Shawshank Redemption fail at the box office but go on to gross more than $100 million as a cult classic? How did The 48 Laws of Power miss the bestseller lists for more than a decade and still sell more than a million copies? How is Iron Maiden still filling stadiums worldwide without radio or TV exposure forty years after the band was founded? Bestselling author and marketer Ryan Holiday calls such works and artists perennial sellers. How do they endure and thrive while most books, movies, songs, video games, and pieces of art disappear quickly after initial success? How can we create and market creative works that achieve longevity? Holiday explores this mystery by drawing on his extensive experience working with businesses and creators such as Google, American Apparel, and the author John Grisham, as well as his interviews with the minds behind some of the greatest perennial sellers of our time. His fascinating examples include: • Rick Rubin, producer for Adele, Jay-Z, and the Red Hot Chili Peppers, who teaches his artists to push past short-term thinking and root their work in long-term inspiration. • Tim Ferriss, whose books have sold millions of copies, in part because he rigorously tests every element of his work to see what generates the strongest response. • Seinfeld, which managed to capture both the essence of the nineties and timeless themes to become a modern classic. • Harper Lee, who transformed a muddled manuscript into To Kill a Mockingbird with the help of the right editor and feedback. • Winston Churchill, Stefan Zweig, and Lady Gaga, who each learned the essential tenets of building a platform of loyal, dedicated supporters. Holiday reveals that the key to success for many perennial sellers is that their creators don’t distinguish between the making and the marketing. The product’s purpose and audience are in the creator’s mind from day one. By thinking holistically about the relationship between their audience and their work, creators of all kinds improve the chances that their offerings will stand the test of time.

  • Publisher : AuthorHouse
  • Release : 2012-05-31
  • ISBN : 1467889687
  • Pages : 69 pages

Download or read book Just Did It written by Mitch Webber and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2012-05-31 with total page 69 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Having tried just about every diet since the invention of elasticated trousers, joined every fitness club within strolling distance of the pub, and spent a small countrys GDP on personal trainers, Mitch Webber was somewhat disappointed to find himself fifty years old and technically obese. With no desire to transform his physique into that of Connan the Barbiturate and without wanting to become a food-bore (one of those people who spend more time investigating the ingredients of a meal than enjoying the company), Mitch decided to see if there was a way to make some tolerable adjustments to his lifestyle in order to get back into reasonable shape. Just Did It! is the result of those successful efforts. It is an easy guide to adjusting your lifestyle, a bit, in order to start to lose weight over time. It offers guidance on how to get into running, how to get a good workout down at the park, and how to eat sensibly four days a week in order to be able to enjoy social eating on the weekendsincluding a wee bit of social drinking too. The book covers an exercise program, a program to get you jogging, and an approach to sensible eating. Its a programme that you can do. Its a reasonable approach that doesnt require you to become a monk or a self-righteous vegan for the next fifteen years. It understands real life, real people, and the real reason we havent been able to succeed with other dietshuman nature and the attraction of every decent chef and cookery programme on the TV. So if you have looked sadly at a recent group photo, thinking that it was about time that you took a few steps towards reducing your girth, then this is the book for you. You can do it. It doesnt have to be hell. Just decide to make a difference, buy the book, and get on with it. Just do it! Lets hope you think the same as Mitch. Take his advice, hes been there, read it, bought it, and most importantly, done it. So get moving, take control of your health, shed some weight, get fit, live life, hopefully a long life, and just do it. Book Firefly Lane

    Book Details:
  • Author : Kristin Hannah
  • Publisher : St. Martin's Press
  • Release : 2008-02-05
  • ISBN : 1429927844
  • Pages : 532 pages

Download or read book Firefly Lane written by Kristin Hannah and published by St. Martin's Press. This book was released on 2008-02-05 with total page 532 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From the New York Times bestselling author Kristin Hannah comes a powerful novel of love, loss, and the magic of friendship. . . . now a #1 Netflix series! In the turbulent summer of 1974, Kate Mularkey has accepted her place at the bottom of the eighth-grade social food chain. Then, to her amazement, the "coolest girl in the world" moves in across the street and wants to be her friend. Tully Hart seems to have it all---beauty, brains, ambition. On the surface they are as opposite as two people can be: Kate, doomed to be forever uncool, with a loving family who mortifies her at every turn. Tully, steeped in glamour and mystery, but with a secret that is destroying her. They make a pact to be best friends forever; by summer's end they've become TullyandKate. Inseparable. So begins Kristin Hannah's magnificent new novel. Spanning more than three decades and playing out across the ever-changing face of the Pacific Northwest, Firefly Lane is the poignant, powerful story of two women and the friendship that becomes the bulkhead of their lives. From the beginning, Tully is desperate to prove her worth to the world. Abandoned by her mother at an early age, she longs to be loved unconditionally. In the glittering, big-hair era of the eighties, she looks to men to fill the void in her soul. But in the buttoned-down nineties, it is television news that captivates her. She will follow her own blind ambition to New York and around the globe, finding fame and success . . . and loneliness. Kate knows early on that her life will be nothing special. Throughout college, she pretends to be driven by a need for success, but all she really wants is to fall in love and have children and live an ordinary life. In her own quiet way, Kate is as driven as Tully. What she doesn't know is how being a wife and mother will change her . . . how she'll lose sight of who she once was, and what she once wanted. And how much she'll envy her famous best friend. . . . For thirty years, Tully and Kate buoy each other through life, weathering the storms of friendship---jealousy, anger, hurt, resentment. They think they've survived it all until a single act of betrayal tears them apart . . . and puts their courage and friendship to the ultimate test. Firefly Lane is for anyone who ever drank Boone's Farm apple wine while listening to Abba or Fleetwood Mac. More than a coming-of-age novel, it's the story of a generation of women who were both blessed and cursed by choices. It's about promises and secrets and betrayals. And ultimately, about the one person who really, truly knows you---and knows what has the power to hurt you . . . and heal you. Firefly Lane is a story you'll never forget . . . one you'll want to pass on to your best friend.
