Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Equips parents to inspire kids to take on social injustice--at any age With the constant barrage of difficult stories through news and social media, today's kids are increasingly aware of the real problems real people confront every day. And they're quicker than ever to come to parents and other trusted adults to ask how they can help--or why they're not already doing so. And Social Justice for Allequips Christian families to tackle social justice issues together. It inspires them to bring light and love to a dark and scary world. Educator and mom Lisa Van Engen creates innovative resources to engage kids in understanding and responding to fourteen justice issues such as clean water, creation care, immigration and refugees, hunger, race, and poverty. After placing each issue in kid-friendly context, she offers interactive features: · High-interest conversation starters for each age group to challenge thinking and assumptions · A family devotional to anchor each social justice issue in God's Word · Engaging, age-tiered activities for reading, playing, observing, creating, connecting, and experimenting in God's world · Tips and internet links to extend awareness and invest resources in social justice. Throughout each chapter, children speak their own thoughts about injustice and what they think God is calling them to do. By looking at both the roots of injustice and what Christians can do right now to help, And Social Justice for All empowers both adults and children to encounter a broken world with insight and empathy. Simple yet powerful, it lights the path for families to make a real, God-directed difference together.

Book The Book of More Delights

Download or read book The Book of More Delights written by Ross Gay and published by Algonquin Books. This book was released on 2023-09-19 with total page 250 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From bestselling author of The Book of Delights and award-winning poet, a book of lyrical mini-essays celebrating the everyday that will inspire readers to rediscover the joys in the world around us. In Ross Gay’s new collection of small, daily wonders, again written over the course of a year, one of America’s most original voices continues his ongoing investigation of delight. For Gay, what delights us is what connects us, what gives us meaning, from the joy of hearing a nostalgic song blasting from a passing car to the pleasure of refusing the “nefarious” scannable QR code menus, from the tiny dog he fell hard for to his mother baking a dozen kinds of cookies for her grandchildren. As always, Gay revels in the natural world—sweet potatoes being harvested, a hummingbird carousing in the beebalm, a sunflower growing out of a wall around the cemetery, the shared bounty from a neighbor’s fig tree—and the trillion mysterious ways this glorious earth delights us. The Book of (More) Delights is a volume to savor and share.

Book Trespassing

Download or read book Trespassing written by Gwendolyn M. Parker and published by Houghton Mifflin Harcourt. This book was released on 1999-01-13 with total page 195 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “A striking memoir of a gifted black woman’s lonely, difficult, and unsatisfying climb to the heights of American power and prestige.” —Kirkus Reviews Parker’s compelling memoir offers a revealing glimpse inside corporate America through the eyes of a black woman “intruder.” From a nurturing childhood in a middle-class black community, Parker rose in the ranks on Wall Street only to discover that racism and sexism still prevail at the top. Full of both outrage and regret, Trespassing is frank and unflinching but leavened with humor and compassion. “An important, keenly observed work that should be read by everyone who is interested in a good story, as well as by those intrigued by the gripping personal drama that comes from extending token access to a few black professionals and calling that phenomenon—integration” (Lani Guinier, author of The Tyranny of Meritocracy). “The stings and isolation of a career at the top . . . engagingly written and fluidly paced.” —The New York Times “An important voice in Black women’s emerging tapestry of words.” —Jill Nelson, author of Volunteer Slavery “Searching and painfully revealing, depicting each moment with searing clarity . . . Parker shows what it means to be invisible and erased.” —Time “Graceful . . . funny, moving and insightful.” —Newsday

Book excerpt: The Knowing the Bible series is a resource designed to help Bible readers better understand and apply God’s Word. These 12-week studies lead participants through books of the Bible and are made up of four basic components: (1) Reflection questions help readers engage the text at a deeper level; (2) “Gospel Glimpses” highlight the gospel of grace throughout each book; (3) “Whole-Bible Connections” show how any given passage connects to the Bible’s overarching story of redemption, culminating in Christ; and (4) “Theological Soundings” identify how historic orthodox doctrines are taught or reinforced throughout Scripture. With contributions from an array of influential pastors and church leaders, these gospel-centered studies will help Christians see and cherish the message of God’s grace on each and every page of the Bible. The book of Galatians is one of the apostle Paul’s most impassioned and eloquent letters. It warns Christians of the dangers of both legalism and lawlessness, while calling them to live lives that are shaped by the gospel. In this study, pastor Geoff Ziegler walks readers through the promises, warnings, and gospel declarations found in Galatians. Both accessible and theologically robust, this study will help Christians find freedom in their identity as God’s adopted children.

This book was released on 2011 with total page 312 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the first meeting of the Relief Society, Sister Emma Smith said, “We are going to do something extraordinary.” She was right. The history of Relief Society is filled with examples of ordinary women who have accomplished extraordinary things as they have exercised faith in Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ. Relief Society was established to help prepare daughters of God for the blessings of eternal life. The purposes of Relief Society are to increase faith and personal righteousness, strengthen families and homes, and provide relief by seeking out and helping those in need. Women fulfill these purposes as they seek, receive, and act on personal revelation in their callings and in their personal lives. This book is not a chronological history, nor is it an attempt to provide a comprehensive view of all that the Relief Society has accomplished. Instead, it provides a historical view of the grand scope of the work of the Relief Society. Through historical accounts, personal experiences, scriptures, and words of latter-day prophets and Relief Society leaders, this book teaches about the responsibilities and opportunities Latter-day Saint women are given in Heavenly Father’s plan of happiness.

Book Character

  • Author : Mike Olawale
  • Publisher : Trafford Publishing
  • Release : 2020-10-18
  • ISBN : 1698703406
  • Pages : 91 pages

Download or read book Character written by Mike Olawale and published by Trafford Publishing. This book was released on 2020-10-18 with total page 91 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the ministry and in family and social relationships, a person’s character is of extreme importance because it paints a picture of his or her reputation. Moreover, an individual’s character is an important factor in determining how successful one becomes in dealing with others in the ministry and in other aspects of human relations. For example, a person who has various talents or abilities; but has a bad attitude or character may be successful for a moment, but may not be able to sustain it. The renowned bible scholar, D.L. Moody, makes a great correlation between character and reputation. He stated “If I take care of my character, my reputation will take care of itself.” His statement makes sense in many different ways because your reputation is a by-product of your character. Even in the natural world, bad, tarnished, or rotten seeds cannot bring about a good harvest or good products. A writer once said; “You don’t determine your destiny; your character determines your destiny.” Therefore, character is the covenant foundation upon which great futures are built. Jesus was speaking about this interpretation in Matthew 7:15-20; He stated: “...by their fruit you shall know them.” So, developing a Christian, God-like character that gives glory to His name is a must. We need to cultivate and develop God-like character traits that portray us as His children.

Book The Gathering A Womanist Church

Download or read book The Gathering A Womanist Church written by Irie Lynne Session and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2020-08-21 with total page 176 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A womanist church has great power to transform church and society, primarily because womanist theology centers the experiences of Black women while working for the survival and wholeness of all people and all creation. Experiences of the triple oppression of racism, sexism, and classism give Black women an epistemological insight into recognizing injustice and creating solutions that benefit all. The Gathering is unique, the only church founded and identified as “womanist,” applying womanist theology to the full life and worship of a church. The Gathering, a womanist faith community in Dallas, Texas, welcomes all people to partner in pursuing racial equity, LGBTQ equality, and dismantling PMS (patriarchy, misogyny, and sexism), following Jesus in liberating the oppressed and lifting up the marginalized. The Gathering, A Womanist Church tells the story of the birth and ongoing development of a womanist faith community. This book includes personal narratives of people transformed in this community, womanist co-pastors’ sermons informed by their experiences and those of other Black women, and litanies for womanist worship.
