Book The Readers of Broken Wheel Recommend

Download or read book The Readers of Broken Wheel Recommend written by Katarina Bivald and published by Sourcebooks, Inc.. This book was released on 2016-01-19 with total page 468 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: New York Times and USA Today Bestseller! Katarina Bivald's The Readers of Broken Wheel Recommend is a sweet, smart, and uplifting story about how books find us, change us, and connect us. Once you let a book into your life the most unexpected things can happen: Like the bestselling historical novel and Netflix film The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society, The Readers of Broken Wheel Recommend is a heartwarming reminder of why we love books. Broken Wheel, Iowa, has never seen anyone like Sara: Sara traveled all the way from Sweden just to meet her book-loving pen pal Amy, but when she arrives she finds Amy's funeral guests just leaving. The residents of Broken Wheel are happy to look after their bewildered visitor—there's not much else to do in a dying small town that's almost beyond repair. You certainly wouldn't open a bookstore. And definitely not with Sara the tourist in charge. You'd need a vacant storefront (Main Street is full of them), books (Amy's house is full of them), and...customers. The bookstore might be a little quirky. Then again, so is Sara. But Broken Wheel's own story might be funnier, more eccentric and surprising than she thought. If you liked big-hearted books like The Storied Life of A. J. Fikry or Eleanor Oliphant Is Completely Fine, you will love The Readers of Broken Wheel Recommend. Praise for The Readers of Broken Wheel Recommend: "The Readers of Broken Wheel Recommend is a warm and slyly funny look at small towns and romance..."—New York Journal of Books "A heartwarming tale about literature's power to transform."—People "What begins as an unlikely international friendship based on a mutual love of books becomes a sweet and soulful discovery of America. Quirky, unpredictable, funny, and fresh—a wonderful book."—Nickolas Butler, internationally bestselling author of Shotgun Lovesongs and Beneath the Bonfire International Bestseller Indie Regional Bestseller National Indie Bestseller #1 Indie Next Pick

Book Linda and Karen s Great European Adventure

Download or read book Linda and Karen s Great European Adventure written by Linda Pashley Murray and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2013-03-07 with total page 76 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I wrote this little non-fiction journal style book from a notebook I kept in 1972 during a trip a girlhood friend and I took to Europe at that time. The itinerary was loosely based on the Hemingway novel The Sun Also Rises so yes there is drinking in Paris cafes, no money, a wild drive from Paris to Pamploma and then to Madrid, including a bullfight a riot, and Ceuta, Heidelberg ,London and the terrific assortment of people that we met along the way. This was before GPS and cell phones , Vietnam was raging and the only terrorists we knew about were Irish and German. I did not meet famous artists or writers, but the places are still there and now when I reread Hemingway a lot of it really comes to life and I know what he wrote was "true".-Linda Pashley Murray I so enjoyed reading the narrative of your trip to Europe in 1972. It is a wonderful account of the adventurous travels of two young American girls, experiencing the various cultures they encountered along the way within the context of the history going on during that period of time. I am so glad you kept the journal as you went along because doing so you were able to recapture what it was like to be in your shoes. Reading it brought me back to memories of younger days. Life is an adventure to be enjoyed while somehow not succumbing to unforeseen pitfalls."-Connie Pashley McDade

Book Seraffyn s European Adventure

Download or read book Seraffyn s European Adventure written by Lin and Larry Pardey and published by Lin and Larry Pardey. This book was released on 1998 with total page 313 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This second book in the Seraffyn cruising series begins with their arrival on the southwest coast of England where they coasted eastward, stopping where fancy held them, where good friends were made, to winter at Pooole, and work to pay for th enext leg of their voyage - toward the Baltic. Denmark, Sweden, Finland were full of welcoming and interesting people and an almost invisible bureacracy. But things were definitely different when they reached Poland were armed guards watched while the poeple greeted them with flowers, fruits and sweets. Their foray behind the Iron Curtain of the 1970's introduced them to some of the people who lead the Solidarity Movement, the force that eventually toppled the Soviet Union. You'll be right on board as they weather a fierce mast-under broach in a Baltic gale and through the wintery North Seas. Here is a feast for the fantiasies of stay-at-homes and a warm account of just two years of the lives of two people who have lived in a wide adventurous world for more than four decades. Their motto -- Go Small, Go Simple, Go Now has encouraged thousands of other sailors to take the plunge. And this book is an entertaining instruction manual on how to live a rich life on very little money. "Lin Pardey has, in her deceptively simple and fresh-faced style, told the story of an unusual and appealing marriage partnership, a speical way of life. Yachtsmen will enjoy the technical description of the problems of maneuvering in the tight harbours and unmapped channels...the perils of heavy seas in a small boat. But what is remarkable is that she can draw a nonsailor into these special subjects and make them as comprehensible and absorbing to a landlubber as they would be to someone about to set out on the same itinerary in a small boat of his own." R. Sokolov, NewYork Times Book Review

  • Pages : 284 pages

Download or read book Uniting Europe written by Albrecht Rothacher and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2005 with total page 284 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book sets out to give a straightforward insider''s account of the current realities of European integration. It succinctly reviews the reasons and methods of European integration, analyses what the European Union (EU) really does, and examines how funds are spent. The whole range of current EU policies is critically reviewed: the Single market; the Euro; and the common policies on agriculture, fisheries, the regions, industry, competition, transport, the environment, social affairs, consumer protection, research, taxation, justice, trade, development, foreign affairs and defence. This book argues for a much slimmed-down European executive. It needs to become fully accountable in a democratically legitimised bicameral federal system, and take charge only of policies essential for effective internal and external security and for a working economic and monetary union. To avoid policy paralysis and continued mismanagement by a redistributive and over-regulatory bureaucracy, most of the current OC low politicsOCO and EU funds should be returned to the member states and their regions. This book thus makes a long overdue informed contribution to the debate on Europe''s future constitution."
