Download or read book Dog written by Margot Lasher and published by margot lasher. This book was released on 2008 with total page 154 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dog: Pure Awareness is a psychological and ultimately spiritual exploration of the human-dog connection. People think of their dogs as companions, as partners, and as members of their family, and this book takes that idea seriously. The mind of the dog is approached as someone who lives with us and knows us, sometimes better than anyone else in the world. The book answers questions that all of us who live with a dog have asked: what is she thinking when she stares into my eyes? how does he know when I am feeling sad or anxious? why is she so happy to see me when I¿ve been gone for only 10 minutes? The answers in Dog: Pure Awareness come from an original and revealing combination of relational psychology and shamanic understanding. The connection between a human and her dog is treated as a relationship: two beings in close connection who find strength and a sense of belonging in each other. Using psychological concepts such as attunement and perceptual awareness, the book explores the ways in which human and dog experience and understand each other. Dog: Pure Awareness is written in a clear, non-technical style that will appeal to all dog lovers. It validates people¿s experience that their dog is deeply important to them. It is also a serious theory of the human-dog connection which will be of interest to professionals such as psychologists and veterinarians. It is appropriate for consideration in college and veterinarian school courses which deal with the human-animal bond.

Download or read book Out of Arkansas written by Doris Price Fisher and published by Trafford Publishing. This book was released on 2003 with total page 246 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the story of a woman's life written in a series of autobiographical sketches. The depression years in rural Arkansas and Texas were an essential part of her formative years and the details she gives of that era are fascinating reading. Her complex, extended family is also an important part of her story and she occasionally stops to give us vivid portraits of some of the main characters among her numerous nieces, nephews, aunts and cousins (who were numbered by the dozens). As her life unfolds there are accounts of the cultural shock of moving to California, of the effect of the '60's revolution on her marriage, of her experience of motherhood, and of the businesses in which she and her husband engaged. Their retirement years in Mexico introduce still another cultural backdrop, which she paints in her vivid way with bold colors. When at last this intensely reactive woman approaches old age she finds herself in a veterans' home in California. After first rebelling, she decides that she likes old age and that the unique features of her new home open possibilities she had never before considered. The death of her husband just a year after moving to the Veterans' Home was a tragedy and a trauma. Eventually it pushed her further in the direction of considering new possibilities for herself. She had always been a book lover and a writer of stories and now she decided to put a finishing touch on her life by publishing a book of her own. Her it is a finished product.
Download or read book Forever Home written by Mike Deathe and published by Dogwise Publishing. This book was released on 2016-05-24 with total page 102 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Writing this book has been a challenge and a pleasure all at the same time. As I read and edit it (for what seems the 150th time), I realize it is way more than a book on how to be a great shelter volunteer. It is really a book about dogs, dog training and the ability to relate to your dog without malice, over the top control or even dominance. I am very proud of the ideas here, and really hope that all the people that read this book rush out to their local shelter, sign up as a volunteer and make a difference. I also realize this book has the potential to help people inside their own home with their own dogs, leading to a happier home for everyone involved. Even at the time of writing this last chapter, I have no idea what the title of the book will be. It was originally to be titled "So You Want to Be a Shelter Volunteer", but in looking at the final product I think it covers way more than that.
I can only hope that you, the reader, agree. I ask you to take this information, share it, find someone to help or maybe even decide to go out and join the group of us that are lucky enough to work with dogs and their owners for a living. (Dog Trainer is really not accurate, since we are first and foremost people trainers!) Every author thinks, or at least hopes, that everything they write will be thought of as a "masterpiece"! I hold no such hopes. I know there are as many different ways to train a dog as there are types of dogs in the world. Rather, I hope you found a nugget or two in this book that you cannot wait to try. Thank you for supporting Keep it Simple Stupid (KISS) Dog Training and go out and make a difference with your own dog or others' dogs. In the end, it is all about saving more dogs and finding them their forever homes. I hope you find few ideas to try along the way. Mike Deathe CPDT-KA

Download or read book Atlantic Black written by A. S. Patric and published by Transit Lounge . This book was released on 2017-11-01 with total page 178 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: ‘A powerful and mesmerising voyage into darkness. Atlantic Black creates an indelible portrait of humanity sailing towards war.’ ~ Heather Rose, Winner of the 2017 Stella Prize In this haunting new novel, Katerina Klova and her mother are crossing the Atlantic by ocean liner. When Anne suffers a psychotic breakdown, Katerina is left alone on a ship full of strangers who span classes and stations, all of whom carry their ambitions, fears and obsessions with them. For a seventeen-year-old girl, the daughter of an ambassador, it’s an exciting, frightening world to navigate. Atlantic Black is a psychologically intense and affecting story of unexpected familial betrayal, of a mother and daughter's relationship, of a brother and father whose voices resonate from afar. Personal loneliness, love and loss, are tightly bound to the wider reality of a world set on a fateful course. The legacy of violence, and of how the First World War precipitated the Second World War reverberates as if ‘tolling on the inside of a church bell’. Through the eyes of Katerina and her own family’s place within a fracturing world, we see the way damage, yet also hope, are passed from one generation to another. A.S. Patrić's writing is achingly tender, the tone merciless but heartbreaking in its compassion. The story takes place over one day and night, New Year's Eve, 1939. The RMS Aquitania steams across the Atlantic Ocean. On the horizon, the world is about to explode. ‘I am still walking the slick decks of Atlantic Black, looking for a way out for both myself and Katerina. She is a singular character – such a perfect and excruciating balance of acting and being acted upon. A brilliant and devastating novel that will not let me go.’ ~ Myfanwy Jones, author of Leap

Download or read book Piglet written by Melissa Shapiro and published by Atria Books. This book was released on 2021-08-03 with total page 320 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the tradition of the beloved New York Times bestsellers Marley and Me and Oogy: The Dog Only a Family Could Love, a charming, inspirational memoir about empathy, resilience, kindness, and an adorable deaf blind pink dog. When Connecticut veterinarian Melissa Shapiro gets a call about a tiny deaf blind puppy rescued from a hoarding situation in need of fostering, she doesn’t hesitate to say, “yes.” Little does she know how that decision will transform her, her family, and legions of admirers destined to embrace the saga of the indomitable pink pup. One of the most anxious dogs Melissa had ever encountered, the traumatized Piglet weighed under two pounds upon his welcome into the Shapiro household—which included Melissa’s husband Warren and their three college-aged kids, plus six other rescued dogs. After weeks of reassurance, and lots of love, Piglet connected, gained confidence, and his extraordinary spirit emerged. Melissa soon forged a powerful bond with Piglet, allowing the two to communicate without sound or visual cues. Two months later, when the day arrived to say good-bye to the now dashing, six-pound pink boy dog with the larger than life spirit, Melissa faced a heart-wrenching decision. Could she hand him over to someone willing to give Piglet the full-time attention he required or could she adapt her schedule and her household to make a permanent place for him in her life and work? Of course, the answer was simple: love would find a way. Curious, engaged, and incredibly eager to learn, Piglet quickly became part of the family. What started out as a few simple Facebook posts of Piglet and his pack rapidly evolved into a global celebration of Piglet’s infectiously positive mindset. Piglet: The Unexpected Story of a Deaf, Blind, Pink Puppy and His Family fully illustrates this heartwarming story of one special little puppy with a purpose to teach the power of empathy, love, and kindness.
